Wow, great video! I think it’s really interesting when you show all the unique things that make it more valuable, and rare. I think of it like when a new speed cube has all the nice new fancy features all rolled into one. Great video!! Keep up the good work!

Thanks Beau, great review. I have a few R L Allan Bibles, but none of the rare limited editions. I thought the only reason the Chant bindery was no longer being used was that they were no longer taking on out sourced contracts like R L Allan & Son Publishers Ltd. Not due to the expense / cost of their work?

Maybe that is the case... I suppose I had heard that it was a combination of Chant raising their prices as a passive aggressive way to outprice themselves out of the contract potential, and Allan deciding not to pay the crazy high cost. But, that is what I had heard and I actually haven't talked with Ian about this specifically.

I agree. My pet peeve is cardstock maps. The transition from the bible paper to the cardstock maps has been a weak point in every bible I own. From economy through premium.

$800 gets you "it's not too bad" @4:12😆 Kinda funny. But still a very beauuuuuutiful Bible.

That is a superlative Bible. Allan Bibles do seem to cost more than other premium Bibles, but you can see why from examples like this.

Someday I'll get my first Allen

I got my first one about a month ago, and immediately put it on ebay to get my money back. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the Bible. It was a 63 sovereign in purple. The art gilding bleed was awful, especially in the early section of the Bible, and the book block was so warped and wavy the pages would not lay flat. The corners of the signatures were gapped and open), and turning pages caused popping and crinkling sounds. The Highland goatskin was really nice, and was the best feature of the Bible, but the quality of the binding not nearly as good as other premium Bibles I own (most bound by Royal Jongbloed). I will not buy another Allan that is bound by Charfleet. And I wouldn't pay $800 for one bound by Chant. I have two rebinds that were less expensive (but not by much) that have much better text blocks, and the quality of the binding is every bit as good.
