I feel embarrassed to admit that I own more than one of this Bible. Generally, I prefer modern digital fonts but the is something comforting with the old fashioned look of the NASB reader. Perhaps it is the tremendous quality.

Could not agree more - this is a really spectacular bible. I have the brown goatskin with red under gold and gold ribbons, binding indicated “Allan Binding by Royal Jongbloed” - and it’s just spectacularly done. Love that petrol blue!!

Beautiful Bible. Thanks for showing us Tim. I’ve got a few Allan Bibles. Before the advent of the Thomas Nelson/Zondervan Premier Collection they were my favs. I still love all of them. My NASB from Allan is the red highland goatskin in a beautiful deep cherry red with red ribbons. It is the single column layout with side references and I love that layout. I’ve had all my Allan Bibles for at least a decade. So not new but holding up beautifully. One thing I love about Allans and wish every Bible would do, is the lined pages at the back. I love picking up one of my old Bibles and seeing what I wrote sometimes many years ago. The CSB Ancient Faith has these lined pages in the back. Thx again.

Just received my second NASB readers in purple and was blown away by the cover it's close to the highland goatskin I have on my Niv 1984 text Allen. Really unbelievable quality on these readers I truly believe this will be my main reading bible it's just about as perfect as it gets, well if they did it in a brown highland goatskin that would be perfect lol but they are unbelievable. Just received my first Allan! Since the NASB ‘95 is my go-to translation, I got the NASB R1. My thoughts… WOW!!! I now see what all the hoopla is over Allan Bibles. Now I need to pick up a 53 Longprimer soon.

Great review. I am seriously considering purchasing this Allan NASB version. Previously, my highest quality bible was a Crossway ESV calfskin leather (sold for $130 back in 2009). I definitely want a NASB now and going forward and have been debating with myself whether to get this two column with center cross-reference or to seek a paragraph style print. I like aspects of both, but I am more used to the two column bible and think I am okay with that, although the paragraph does read very nice.

I picked one of these up about a month ago and it is amazing! Mine is a beautiful black highland goatskin printed and bound by Royal Jongbloed red under gold art gilt with blue ribbons. I've used the NASB for years using an 03 Lockman Foundation LPUT calfskin as my workhorse bible since 05. The text block is the same in both of these but the font in the Allan is a point smaller. The Allan quality has really blown me away, this bible is absolutely phenomenal! This bible just exudes quality and is a pleasure to hold and read from. This is THE NASB.

“Petrol Blue” is such a unique blue. I was just about to order this same Allan NASB R1in the purple goatskin, but after seeing the color Petrol in this video I decided on the Petrol Blue. This will be my first Allan Bible. The Schuyler NASB Quentel was second choice, but the Allan came in first with thicker 36gsm paper and generous yap. I’m also fond of the more traditional double column, verse-by-verse format not unlike my very first KJV Bible purchased with green stamps when I was 8 years old.

A Bible befitting what the Lord's word deserves. I wonder if and when someone will come up with a more accurate and trustworthy translation than the NASB. I bought my first one in the early 70's when it first came out and still go to it for questions from other translations. Now, if only Lockman would do the Apocrypha...great review, best wishes from Houston.

I have the ESV version of this Allan NASB 1995 Reader, in - blk Highland goatskin, printed by Crossway Nederlands, bound by Charfleet. I also have the WM Quentel NASB in slate goatskin. Unfortunately the Quentel WM is a bible meant for building biceps, not portability. So I am searching for a portable NASB (not 2020 ed which the STRIDON is) 1995 with "QUASI" margin. This Allan NASB Reader, identical to the ESV version I have, seems to provide the "quasi margin" for notes.

I have the navy Silverline edition of this bible. It's the most expensive bible I own, but without a doubt, the best bible I own. Everything about it is perfection, from the cover, to the liner, to the paper. It doesn't get any better than this. The trend is to produce a bible as thin as possible by using 28 GSM paper. In my opinion, this 36 GSM paper is the perfect weight and opacity.

What's your opinion of the Allan 26 Brevier Blackface? I would love to get a Longprimer, but it's outside of my budget and I prefer a slightly more compact bible. Any chance you'd feature the Blackface and the Brevier Clarendon in the future?

The NASB95 is my current go-to translation and I have to say that the Lockmann font is not my favorite. It's functional, but not the prettiest. My first premium bible is a Zondervan Premier Single-Column Reference and that has a much better font in my estimation. Still, the Zondervan doesn't have the full translators' notes and cross-reference suite, only part. This one does because it's the Lockmann text and format in its entirety. So if you want all of the features of a Foundation bible in premium binding on premium paper, this would be it.

Question. How accurate is the color of the Bible compared to what I am actually seeing on the video? The images of the Petro blue on BD are too light for my taste. But after seeing your video, I am intrigued as the color looks much better. I already have the purple silver line NASB, so I’ll just enjoy the video for now. This years read for me is a combo of the NASB and LSB. Quite enjoying the translation. Thanks again for sharing.

Well... I tried to color grade this video to that the Bible looks as close on screen as it does to my eye in person, BUT... your screen is certainly going to have different settings than mine, etc... so it's kinda hard to be exact about it.

It is as beutiful as you say, am just a little uneasy as to the seemingly over size of the cover, I know it protects but it doesn't make it look good, I would wish the cover was a tad smaller

I have this bible in navy blue and it is my first and only premium bible so far. My question is, is the cover much stiffer than other Allans? You mentioned that it seems to be stiffer than those bound by Chant or Ludlow, but how big of a difference is there? I think its an absolutely beautiful bible and I love everything about it, but the texture and stiffness of the cover almost feels like bonded leather to me.

Hmmm… it’s a different type of goatskin than the types used by other binderies. Chant’s are known to be super soft. It’s pretty similar to Ludlow, but not identical.
