upper management didnt want to deal with a claim they were being sexist/racist/etc, its hard to fine people today, well, unless they are white males... who get no sympathy... i worked for a very rich fellow, he had to let a female exec he hired lose them over 3m before they could drive her out, it was over a few years but... yeah... they had to build up enough to make it so a lawsuit claiming sexism, racism, etc wouldnt work... she claimed to be jewish... her kids told us that was bullshit... both of they stayed with the company... mom ended up getting involved in some scam and left the country to avoid getting involved in the legal fallout... apparently shes lost several jobs outside the US she got using jobs she was driven out of here to get those jobs... word got around and shes now working for some small local delivery company on the call desk... real fall from making 6 figures in the states to call desk work in a 2nd world country...

Story 1: It seems to be common that stuff falls apart because of a new manager not fully grasping the responsibilities of their position and going on power trips. The fact that it took a 4000% increase in expenses and loss of booths to finally get the upper managers to do something about it says a lot about top management.
@Helbore
@Helbore 2 жыл бұрын
I've known a lot of upper management like that. They get promoted up the tree and now they're at the top, they think work life means raking in the money and not having to do much for it. Especially when it comes to staff conflicts. They just sit there with their heads down, pretending nothing is happening and hoping it all goes away. The only thing that ever gets them to intervene is when it hits them in the wallet. You'd think they'd learn in the future, but they never do.
@FNLNFNLN
@FNLNFNLN 2 жыл бұрын
@@Helbore Well, yeah. Corporate management isn't about managing a company well, it's a political job. You don't need to know shit about how the company works, all you need to know is which ass is the right one to kiss, and how to shift the blame for your inevitable failures onto someone less skilled at playing social games than you are - which is probably going to end up being someone who actually knows what the company should be doing.

It's likely because that was the first time they saw the actual numbers on paper in the annual report. They don't stroll around like a cartoon character observing what everyone is doing. I think in many cases they feel like they need to justify their salary. They have to do something to improve the income and back up whatever lies they told in the interview. They also have the bosses eyes on them more closely than the average worker, adding to the pressure, and take it out on the below below them. Atleast this is my take from some experiences qnd reading so many of these stories. I'm not defending Dolores here, she's clearly delusional, controlling, and has an ego problem. For the last story, just a small correction from a Brit: 'Flicking the V's' is a British variant of 'Flipping the Bird' where you raise the index finger as well as the middle finger, like a reversed 'Peace' sign. This two fingered salute is normally accompanied by a short up and down arm motion for emphasis, or if done with both hands, the arms are extended forward and the wrists flicked back and forth in tandem, hence, 'Flicking the V's'.

Seriously, why the hell did the company allow Dolores to save face by "retiring to dedicate more time with her family" instead of just outright firing her for nepotism and gross incompetence? Were the higher ups just too embarrassed that they let things get so bad by their indifference? Is it like what's happening at Disney with LucasFilms, LTD and the "writers" of SHE-HULK: the higher ups know that power-tripping female employees are causing them to lose millions, but they can't fire them because the latter keeps on bullying them to keep their jobs under the threaten to say that they were fired because "misogyny" and play the "victim of the patriarchy" card? It shouldn't matter matter your race, gender, or age: if you willingly cause harm at work to the business or employees, you deserved to face the full consequences with no face-saving bullshit to save your reputation.

In my experience, when someone "retires to spend more time with family," it means upper management have given them two options - either you leave immediately and without fuss and we'll let you save face publically, or you can try and fight it and we'll make sure to ruin all future career prospects. Its easier for management if the problem employee just walks away quietly, as opposed to firing them and risking them trying to sue for unfair dismissal.

I joined an IT/ISP company that warned me at the start that their travel jobs were NOT vacations. I was expected to work and work I did. They paid for everything though. Petrol, food, hotels, and added travel work to next year as extra paid vacation days. The kicker (extra pay, extra time off, and a week of working from home on return) was for out of country travel jobs and when I realised how cool they were. I had a job in Germany for the first time about 6 months in. Was definitely only three days of IT work and two days of schmoozing with sales and marketing. The owner booked an all-inclusive hotel stay, car, fuel card, and gave me a pre-paid Visa card to the tune of €1500....for two weeks. Thought it was a mistake but got no response from management on day 1 or 2. I called on the third day to say I was done and the owner of the company said "Oh good...enjoy your 'definitely not a holiday', thanks for all the hard work." I still work for them.

Dolores is a great example of why DEI is a disaster. Ive seen this happen a few times now. DEI is a government enforced policy where employers need to hire X amount of women and POC. Particularly for high level roles. In this case, it sounds like they didnt fire Dolores sooner because they would face fines. Also, notice OP say they replaced her with another woman.

That last story reminds me of how I got my custom-made desk (happy story, not a bad one). About 18 years back, I got one of those cube-storage systems that you can mix & match, so I could turn it into a custom-sized desk to fit into my bedroom (awkward space, needed a lot of storage, went fully modular, and made the desktop out of a door set up on the cubes and rectangles, blah blah blah). It was an entire pallet's worth of boxes containing the not-yet-assembled components of all those cubes. I eagerly awaited its delivery, and when the semi-truck finally arrived (lorry for UK, etc, folks)...I was absolutely astounded. Why? Because it was the LONGEST trailer I had ever seen on a semi truck...and it was delivered into a patch of suburbia with narrow, winding streets, ones which usually had spare cars parked on the sides of the road, making it a little nervewracking for a normal, relatively short-length car to pass those parked vehicles on the curved bits, and god help you if someone was coming the other way. I had NO idea how that driver got that LONG trailer onto our street. Major, major kudos for his driving ability. (He also looked like he was barely 25, but he must've been driving since the law allowed it.) But that wasn't the only amazing thing about that delivery. I went out and greeted him as he was getting the back deck lowered (half-panel that allows a forklift to take a pallet up & down), so I was there when he got the big double doors open... ...and the ONLY things inside this 40 foot long MASSIVE trailer...are a pallet jack lashed to the side with some straps, and the plastic-wrapped pallet of my gazillions-of-cubes-in-boxes at the far end, up by the truck cab. That's it. That's the ONLY thing to be delivered. Nothing else but the pallet jack after he brought out my goods and dropped it in my garage. 40 foot long trailer, and 1 standard-sized pallet of things to be shipped. I was polite and didn't say a word other than my deep thanks, didn't even ask him how the heck he got that rig into my tight little neighborhood, didn't ask why a 40 footer when this was 1pm and there was nothing else inside, or how long he must've been working to get it loaded and then everything else delivered... I just thanked him for arranging the pallet in the best spot in the garage for me to be able to unpack it in the shade and out of the rain. Which was good that he could get get it in there as a single unit, because that pallet was around 150 pounds of 30+ boxes of various sizes and weights (and far more plastic wrap than one would think was necessary). I would have had to unwrap the whole thing and transported each box by hand, if he hadn't been kind enough to drop it in my garage for me, quick and easy. Always, ALWAYS be kind to delivery personnel. They are the lifeblood of our modern world, literally bringing you everything you need in life. And some of them have AMAZING driving skills!

I want to make a disclaimer about this sponsorship. Established Titles and other companies like it exist within a legal loophole and are a grey area of Scottish law. The titles are not legally enforcable and you do not actually own the land you are being sold. The owner of Established Titles is a woman from Hong Kong, yet is selling off pieces of land in Scotland. RESEARCH YOUR SPONSORS

@@SSJ_Rabite It is definitely a scam, but not in the traditional sense, it basically comes down to false advertising. It's a washing machine that looks like a dryer. This isnt land ownership, it's a land preservation initiative. It's not fraud because the companies that actually own and 'sell' the land put money back into maintaining and using the land for natural growth/eco friendly business. At the same time however, with Established Titles inparticular, there are a lot of people who bought land and weren't even allowed to go and look at their plot, much less do anything with it. I guess it's the real life equivalent of an NFT, you dont own the land, you just own a piece of paper that says you do.

Established titles has unfortunately been proven to be a scam, you cannot actually buy an official title like taht, you have to be born with it. Also you don't actually own the land you buy, it's a souvenier plot, which is essentially the same as an NFT. Additionally Established Titles has never proven that they donated even a single cent and considering their various other scams, I think it's quite unlikely that they did. I advise you to remove the ad as soon as you can.

established titles is a scam :( the lord/ladyship isnt officially recognized by anyone outside of established titles, scotland ruled sale of “souvenir land plots” illegal so youre only get rights for usage of the land, they can resell the same plot multiple times (not saying they do), and Scotland has an entire court dedicated to actually sorting out who is a Lord or Lady

For real though, I was a logistics coordinator at a tradeshow company at one point. It was my job to make sure that all shipments arrived to every tradeshow on time and order all services to make sure it was built and serviced properly and on time. Being early was essential! Whether it was the crews getting there on time, or getting the payments in early to miss late fees. They are not kidding when the union fees and late application fees rack up because they really fucking do! It was also my job to make sure that any of our contractors and/or sales people got there on time with proper accommodations. Now, I don’t know how long “Dolores” was in the system or working such a position, but in the short time that I worked that role, I feel I could’ve done a better job than she did! I had an epiphany during the first story. Dolores exists because upper management needs her to. You get bonuses by showing that you've improved things, but things are running pretty much as well as they can. What do? Bring in an incompetent patsy; someone who will screw things up badly, make the numbers terrible, then take the fall. This allows you to swoop in, install a competent manager, and claim the savings as a success.

Dolores sounds like the upper management at my job. My job is in healthcare, and the workers have to keep their health classes up to date every year. There was one occasion where we were working on some in-house exam to assess skills, and the DIRECTOR OF HR actually said she didn't trust workers not to cheat on multiple choice exams. After I spoke up about how unfair it is to accuse all the workers of lying, they immediately realized "OH SHIT. He's got a point. We could be in big trouble for this". The next thing they did was send workplace assessments to the staff to see how happy they are at their jobs. HR director still has her job. This isn't the first time they've insulted the workers; they overall have very little respect for the workers and lower management.
