Amusing coincidence: just after you read the part about the OP's department no longer being under that misandrist boss, a commercial came on that uses "So Happy Together" by the Turtles.

The first one, I’d have looked right at her and said “I’m not gonna play your little power trip game. This isn’t kindergarten, this is the real world. And you can get over yourself and your prejudices against men because this won’t end well for you.”

Aaaand that’s a sure fire way to get fired. People like this are not rational

Agree, that's probably a speed run to the unemployment line. Even if you have recourse to sue after.

@ I’ve been fired for less. I just look at them and reply “well I was lookin for a job when I found this one I don’t have a problem lookin for a better job than this. I might not make what I did here but I’ll sure as hell be treated better.”
@Juggzy15 сағат бұрын
@ there has to be a line drawn in employee treatment. I have no problem makin that line very clear that I will not be treated like that by anyone. I also tell those kind of people “if I never let my parents speak to me like that, what makes you think imma let you? I’m a human just like you and deserve at least a little bit of respect just like everyone else so conduct yourself properly.” Too many managers have gotten way too comfortable treating employees like crap.

@@Juggzy I’m glad you’re in a position where you can do that, then! Because I’m all for it ^^ sadly usually they just go through the next few people until they find someone who does “play ball”… :/

I don't get why Op didn't get that in writing from his boss. Put himself into a snare doing that.

I remember this old story. OP is better than me, cause i wouldve quit and left her high& dry immediately after BS like that started.

Had to dig back in the subreddit. New posts are few and far between these days! These stories are 5 and 3 years old.

@@KarmaStoriesPodcast That's fine. I was trying to remember this story for a few weeks now, so thanks. BWF

When you have a troublesome boss get everything in writing or a recording. You KNOW she's going to lie. And who are the higher ups going to believe? The 6 month intern or the 10 year veteran manager?

I would ask for that in writting via email. In story 1. Then march myself with my copy if that to HR. And Tell HR everything wrong woth the statments contained within. And i would record the conversations.oh me being getting yelled at.

The woman didn't want him talking to vps because she was given credit when a man turned her department around. She didn't want him to get any recognition or "take her job because he's a man"

Yeah, if being told that *nothing* you can do, can get you promoted... why bother trying? Likewise, on the other story: I would simply have handed over the write up in the meeting. Along with either hang up or say nothing at the call. Really hammer it home.

The last one, I went thru a similar situation at one of my previous jobs. I busted my butt all over the store, trained the manager and assistant manager (I was 2 weeks newer than them), had to fight to get supervisor of my dept, ran the store since the “managers” couldn’t be bothered and kept gettin turned down for all promotions to management. I finally had enough after 3 years and walked out. They lost a TON of business from my dept which made most of the store’s money. The assistant manager was promoted to manager 2 years before this but fired not long after I left.

Everyone in this first story is power tripping. " can you let my supervisor no" No "Ok wtf?"

I can just see the boss in the first story when she's speaking with the VP's and SVP's (talking to the women and ignoring the men) and when they ask her why she says "Because he's a *MAN*" at that point the VP's and SVP's look at each other and say "We're putting you on administrative leave and if you didn't have 10 years you'd be getting a pink slip"

First story - "There was nothing I can do..." Yes there is. Your manager in a company that has a HR department can NOT write you up without consulting HR. Yes, HR is there to protect the company, but they are also there to protect the WORKERS. By protecting the workers they are protecting the company from any fallout a manager causes. OP in that story should have gone and spoken to HR about the controlling manager and OP should also have told that VP the whole truth and told them that their manager told them they cant email anyone but their manager. Honestly not reporting it is why a manger continues to get away with it all. Their boss was being discriminatory and created a hostile workplace. It honestly wouldnt have gone to that VP meeting if OP grew a spine before then and reported the manager to HR and that VP, easily done by using email by cc'ing, or even bcc'ing, them in asking their manager to verify their orders of not emailing those above them. If bcc'd then when the reply from the manager comes back giving the orders, simply reply back with "Understood" with HR and VP bcc'd in along with it being sent to a non-company account.

Also HR needs to protect the company by neutralizing the possibility of a lawsuit for hostile work environment.
