This! I got really disappointed especially when the author forced the romance to happen, to the point of ruining the character! Like the smart heroine gets dum-dum and all emotional for a boy, but the novel portrays it as a good thing, like she's loyal and in love... yuck. I've legit read writing advices that tells you a story must have a romance sub-plot in it, or a love interest. It's very damaging since not all stories need romance.

Though yeah, there are some uncomfortable scenes like this, but overall, it's a super seriously heartfelt book, with lots of insight about the very real issues people like Junior face in everyday life. This is because guys are physically stronger and taught to take on the world while women are made very aware of their lesser strength and are taught to take others' feelings into account. Guy: Let's do X. Gal: I think we should consider X. Guy: I lead my team and we accomplished X. Gal: Thanks to my very talented team, we were able to do X. It's not universal, and culture will have a major effect as well, but it's a good short cut to differentiating characters. 18:01 Just for context on the story "The Evening and the Morning" the story is historical fiction. The part Click is reading about is when a little 12 year old slave girl was raped. The person who owned her said she couldn't have gotten pregnant if she didn't enjoy it. The reason why the owner said it was because he was supposed to be a priest, but he used his power for evil. He used the girl for sex to pay for things he wanted. The story is really good, and shows how life was back then, with romance, death and many different views. The story was in the late 900's if I remember right.

Click talking about Eleanor Roosevelt as a fictional character was amazing. There's no reason he should know who she is, at all, though. I'm Canadian and the only reason I know is because American culture permeates every type of media in Canada so you kind of just absorb American history as if you lived there.
@John_Weiss3 жыл бұрын
To be fair, if you learn about World War 2 in any depth, you should know who FDR is. And when learning a bit about FDR, Eleanor should get a passing mention as his wife. If your history class is even better and you learn about the founding of the United Nations, you'll learn that Eleanor Roosevelt was a former First Lady who was instrumental in the early days of its founding.
@someoneontheinternet16 Жыл бұрын
@@John_Weiss well, tbh other countries learn about every country a little bit, AND no, we di not hice a flying fuck about Eleanor Roosevelt or her husband, but we have to learn about some stuff. But i bet you dont know about san martín, even if its a really importante figure to latín america
@John_Weiss Жыл бұрын
@@someoneontheinternet16 No, I don't know about San Martin. Tell me … what was his role in defeating the Nazis, or in founding the United Nations? If we're talking about FDR, we're talking about World War 2, after all. If San Martin has nothing to do with WW2, and you're bringing him up in order to change the subject? That's playing games. One of the first things I learned about World War 2 were names like Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Stalin. and Charles de Gaul. As well as Vichy and Quizling. Key players in WW2 were covered in class, even though they weren't from the US. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights … ever hear of it? … was in large part Eleanor Roosevelt's doing. But let me quote part of my comment: *_"If_* your history class is even better and you learn about the founding of the United Nations…" I said _"if"_ for a reason. I'm not assuming that everyone around the world learns about the founding of the UN … or even what it took to get the Universal Declaration of Human Rights … in great detail. Sweden wasn't exactly thousands of miles away from World War 2, you know. And the Swedish education system, unlike the US, is actually pretty decent, so it's going to teach the history of such a major event like World War 2 in great detail. This is why I'm surprised that The Click had no clue who Eleanor Roosevelt was.
@someoneontheinternet16 Жыл бұрын
@@John_Weiss im not playing games, what im saying Is that i have history class and had to learn about the UN and WW2 but you dont learn about the independence of basicly all Latinoamérica, which Is what San martín's role was. I hace to know about world war 2 but yall think yall are the Center of the universe. My Man probably knows who she Is but didnt recognise her name because Lets be real, you dont remember the name of every important person you has to learn about un history class. Liberating a bunch of countries from europe was a largo part of San Martín's doing AND still you would not have an idea of who he is. So even if i think Is important to know about Eleanor Roosevelt i Also think we should learn about other parta of history with a great value. Ps: i know its of great value to learn about human rights, the un, the impact of wars(un this case ww2) because its for us to learn about past mistakes and not make them again. What i mean Is that Is Also of great value to know about other important figures who also did important things from other Places, because history Is note valuable if its only from 1 Place.

@@someoneontheinternet16 Look, I agree that the US is Absolute Rubbish when it comes to learning the history of Central and South America. And I don't expect everyone to learn about US History. But _World War 2 _*_IS NOT US HISTORY!_* It affected the entire fvcking planet. _It led directly to the Cold War, which _*_ALSO affected the entire planet._* Also: do you really think Swedes are going to learn the history of the former colonies of the Spanish Empire? No. But they _are_ going to learn about a _global war_ that happened next door to them! For that matter, _do you think history classes in Spain teach anything about the countries that broke away from it?_ I would actually expect Spain to paint you guys as "traitors" and "rabble" and give a really biased history of Mexico, Central America, and South America that makes you look bad and them look good. Especially anything being taught in schools during Franco's rule. [Notice that I know that Mexico isn't part of Central America. It's part of _North America_ … something that the bulk of 'Murica refuses to recognize, if they learn it at all. 😠] Notice, too, that I'm trying to stick to "US", because I happen to be a weirdo who knows that people in South America _also_ call themselves "American."

19:27 that's actually true though, it's why "impossible beauty standards" complaints exist - comics with realistic looking women simply don't sell well so they go bust almost immediately, and the only ones that are left are the ones with top 0.1% beauty benchmark girls and looking like that is difficult even for top 1% and straight up impossible for over 90%. You know you can't complain about certain features in media when you only buy media with said features in it and ignore everything else.

@@ScaraGucci - I may have vaguely heard of it. Fairy tales reflect aspects of real life like a distorting mirror; blurred, out of proportion but with something real behind it. Any fairy tale that didn't wouldn't last long. The fact that a lot of these meaningful backgrounds have been lost doesn't mean that they didn't once exist. I, as a woman, am forever upset at anthro reptiles having boobs. Because tits on snakes are for a narrow-minded mammalian asethics, boobs on any non-mammals only show how pathetic one is to need mammalian features on reptiles or birds to make them attractive characters. One thing Re:0 did right was letting that white lizard have her flat chest. Unless the lore stated that the anthro reptile race is produced by crossing with humans or humans getting cursed by gods, I really don't see the point for reptiles having mammary glands.
