Why does Hinata say "ichi, ni, san, shi,..." when counting members of the audience in Haikyuu? He says "shi" for the number 4. (KZbin video: "Hyper Projection Engeki "Haikyuu!!" Itadaki no Keshiki", at time marker 4:48.)

I came here because Duolingo introduced counter words without mentioning that's what they were. But now I'm even more confused. Is "nin" people? Or do we still need "hito" ("san nin hito")?

I wonder why we never say "shi ni n" for 4 people, but I bet it's because it's too similar to something offensive ha ha :D Great lesson!

こんにちは、裕子先生。I find it rather interesting that 1 person and 2 people have different readings. Is there a cultural or social reason why that is? Was it a sign of disrespect to use いちにん or ににん?

Nekuraさん、if you are answering the question I posted at the end of the lesson, いいえ、いません is good enough as a response to the question. If you meant to say "I don't have Japanese friends (friends who are Japanese people)" then 日本人の友達がいません is better. Hope this helps!
