Switching weapons mid-combo (without flash attack) definitely opens up really cool options, I'll have to practice that. I feel like I always have a little delay when doing this method, though. I usually try to sneak in a sheathe (R1+O) between the flux and weapon switch, it seems like it cuts out a few frames from the switching/blocking animation... Just doing: attack -> R1+O -> dpad -> attack (so, skipping the flux) definitely feels faster to me, though maybe I'm still doing something wrong (and that's not great for ki management). Anyways, fun stuff :)

Okay, after further attempts I think this MGF2WS method is just as fast as sheathing then swapping in most circumstances, but in a few scenarios sheathing after the flux is definitely faster/easier timing, like after a spear flourish (and I'm still having problems with a delay after some skills, might just need better muscle memory). Definitely a killer technique regardless, thanks for the showcases!

@@bonhomme2867 Thank you very much!!! And sorry for the delay! You got 2 comments in before I responded!! In general, I feel mgf2ws is jjst as fast, but I don't know if that's just a muscle memory thing for me with mgf2ws as I've been doing it exclusively for awhile or not. Though I did practice a little after I read your first comment just to check it out. There's definitely something to be said for the sheath method for sure. I feel like maybe using it to go to the same stance or to just basic attacks sheath switching might be a bit quicker, but to other stances or to a skill, I feel mgf2ws is quicker - at least for me. It can always be sped up more by just doing a mgfws too. After spear flourish it can be frustrating because you have to wait for it to complete before doing the mgf2ws to skill. I usually do it twice in a row to compensate for that or avoid it by stance dancing to low then mgf2ws. Anyway, glad you liked it!! It's my favorite technique!! Also, not sure what skills you were having issues with but the delay could be from needing to double press S or T when doing an L1+S or T skill with spear, kusa, axe or splitstaff, as they have the extra unsheathing animation that delays the input after an mgf2ws.

how do you mash stances so fast?! I see three stance changes, yet for me just doing one stance change is extremely slow... would love to hear how you managed to do it.

Sorry for the following wall of text! I practice flux and flux 2 a lot, like a lot. That's made them faster. I find that each person has a direction they're more comfortable going, either up or down, that is, from low to mid to high (low>mid>high) or high to mid to low (high>mid>low). The one I'm most comfortable with is high>mid>low. I'm going to explain it in terms of stance switching through 3 stances instead of 2 because you often are in a stance and want to get back to that same stance, but refresh ki on the way. In this example, low stance back to low stance, switching through high and mid (high>mid being the actual flux 2). This is what I'm doing in the beginning of the video. Overall, think of it as a rolling motion. Key here is to keep R1 held down throughout the entire process. After attacking in low, hold R1, then press Triangle with the pad of the tip of your thumb, then roll the side of the pad of your thumb over Square letting go of Triangle (this is done by rotating your thumb at the joint where your thumb meets the hand - for example, if you rest your thumb on your index finger, then, while keeping your thumb pad touching the finger, move your thumb left - that's the motion). Finally, press the first joint of your thumb into X, letting go of Square, and then release R1. Tthink about it as one motion, and as if you were giving a fingerprint of your thumb. Even though you are rolling your thumb across Triangle, Square and X, each one is being pressed individually. This is especially important in Nioh 2 which is more sensitive to muddled inputs (that is 2 buttons pressed at the same time). You must try to keep the inputs clean. Also, it's often easier to just flux starting from low and going back to low through mid (that is low>mid>low), to start off learning the motion and the speed. From low stance, hold R1 down, and press your thumb pad into Square, then push the first joint of your thumb into X. This can also be a flux 2 if you started in high stance. For high stance, flux 2 back to high stance (that is, attacking in high, low>mid>high), I reverse the motion from above. Alternatively, a friend, who's super fast at it, pushes upwards with his thumb through the buttons, which is more of a push than a roll. For low stance, flux 2 to high stance (that is, attacking in low, mid>high), I press my thumb pad firmly into Square and the drag it across Triangle, while holding R1 down (the drag is caused by moving my thumb via the joint where the thumb meets the hand). Try to do these after every attack or every couple of attacks. It'll get faster, it's just a lot of practice.

@@aredgert First of all, thank you so much for the explanation! I will get to practicing as soon as possible, I feel like I really have an idea on how I should do it. Second, I have a question about flux into weapon switch with the odachi, for some reason if I end the flux in mid stance and then try to switch weapons, the game won't let me do it as soon as possible, there is a huge delay. I hate to advertise my own videos like these, but if you want to see what I am talking about, I made a video about it kzbin.info/www/bejne/j16xaKObbqd_oKM Since you have so much experience, I thought you might have an answer, again thx so much regardless!

@@zerothehero.takeasip6612 No worries, looking good, btw! So, you found the secret, annoying, mid stance glitch! Lol! Weapon switching to mid is weird, some weapons have trouble with it. I didn't realize odachi was one of them, but katana and kusa have the same problem in reverse if you try to mgf2ws to mid stance. For example, if you went morning moon>renegade dragon (renegade dragon in mid stance) via low>mid, it won't change weapons (that is, you're in high, do morning moon, then flux 2 via low>mid, then weapon switch to do a renegade dragon, it won't weapon switch). But if you did the same thing off heaven and earth, it would work. The solution for both is the same but is tricky and a little slower than other mgf2ws transitions. I mgf2ws to low, then keep my fingers on L1+R1 and press Square. So, for morning moon>renegade dragon, I morning moon, mgf2ws to low (flux 2 via mid>low, then weapon switch), keep my fingers on L1+R1, then press Square, then renegade dragon. If you do it from low, like a sword of discernment>renegade dragon, then it's basically 4 stance changes: starting from low (sword of discernment)>high>mid>low (weapon switch)>mid (renegade dragon) Hope that helps!

Arock1 I will keep it in mind, thanks! Though are you sure about those two weapons having the same problem? I tested them out before and they don’t seem to have it in Nioh 2 or at least not so obviously... makes me want to play more Nioh 2 to find out lol

@@aredgert Hey! I wanted to resume this conversation we had about the mid stance glitch... I found the cause of the glitch, it's the timely guard moves of the katana, kusa and odachi. Disable those and the problem disappears (likely why you didn't notice it with the odachi as bolting boar was added in nioh 2), it thus makes sense why everything happened, the delay period is probably the same as the period it registers for a timely guard, though this makes me hopeful as hatchet and tonfa has a timely guards, and they work fine so I am guessing that the probem can be easily fixed. Anyways hope this helps you, spread the word about this glitch and keep safe!

very informative and technical video. I have a question: there seems to be a weird delay when I try to Flux 2 from low to high stance (low-mid-high). this doesn't happen when I go from high-mid-low. I've purposely have my fingers in weird position to test this, but no matter how fast I press triangle - square - x, it doesn't switch as fast as x-square-triangle. do you experience the same thing?
@aredgert3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay! I do, but I think it's more the animation of the stance switch layout itself than the actual flux 2. When I flux 2 to high from high (start in high, then low>mid>high), the stance switch layout animation is really fast. And the same thing in the case when I flux from low to low. However, it's slower when I just start in high and just go mid>low, and vice versa, at least on the stance switch layout - it's inexplicable...lol. Not sure if that's what you're seeing or if it's the actual flux 2 animation the character makes.
