The thing about hockey and lacrosse nets: lacrosse goalies make saves. Plenty of them. After the save the goalie often comes out of the net to help clear the ball. They’re usually the quarterback of the defense handling all the communication about the type of defense you’re in, what offense the other team may be in, and in man down or “power play” scenarios when to slide and who to watch and maybe what side the X attack player might be on at any given time. Put a sumo wrestler with hockey pads in the goal and they fill the space tho so it’s probably pretty good to be a big person as a hockey goalie. They probably get 90%+ saves because of the size of the goal

Ayyy, 4:24. I'll have to watch. Foil fenced throughout HS, lucky enough to have a coach (who also happened to be my group advisor) actually teach me. Former olympian, multi-gold medalist in foil and saber (2/3 of them, the 2 cool ones) and also the yearly Champion of Spain 2x. Was a awesome surprise of quality, helped compensate for the fact I was going to a private liberal arts school where my art teacher was insufferable: deadhead, when she didn’t smell of body odor it was weed. She really had a bone to pick with me. Pretty much told other teachers how "obstinate" I was. Only know because I had a Spanish prof. beak code and say "i don’t get what they say about you." My art teacher would make you paint over your completed painting by switching goal posts. She complained so much. Enough so whe our school therapist was involved, saw him 1-2 x a week. His conclusion? Being how I was the only male in a class with 14 girls, if she was going to project her feelings about her son she'd aim for me: he was chronically hospitalized because if he left he'd comms suicide. Teacher also had an issue with her brother, heroin addict. Prob had daddy issues 2, barely a guess.

USA does very well in women's sports because we actually have lots of well funded collegiate programs while the rest of the world doesn't care. We do well in Baseball, Softball and Basketball because they are essentially American sports but we do poorly in men's basketball because the pros we send don't care. If Crossfit was an Olympic sport we would do well because a lot of Americans can find the time to do that stuff. Historically we don't do great in rich man's sports. Old money does better at that and there is more old money in Europe. We don't do great in things like light weight class men's weight lifting because in places like Iran if you don't lift the weight you get killed. We don't do well in sports that are more popular in Europe and Asia like Bicycling and Soccer (except women's). We do well in swimming because we have lots of pools. In Europe there aren't as many because you have 1,000 year old cities with ancient plumbing and in the rest of the world, few places are rich enough to see a justification for an Olympic size pool while we have them in lots of highschools. Winter Olympic skiing is opposite, Europe has skiing all over the place because there are plenty of mountains and cold winters, in the US there are maybe a dozen areas with big ski resorts with most competitors coming out of Tahoe, Vale, Park City and Big Bear. We should dominate surfing because it's essentially a Hawaiian sport but competitors follow the waves so it doesn't really matter where you start from. Women's Beach Volleyball used to be a sport where you couldn't get on a team if you didn't look good in a bikini. My old classmate Kerri Walsh changed that. Her knees used to be bigger than her thighs. Now it's all about winning so pretty soon instead of worrying about seeing cheeks, it will be nuts. Basically, if nobody cares we have a great shot. If it's a revenue sport we have a great shot. If it's a sport with little barrier to entry where smaller athletes are competitive, we are going to suck.
