Farming isn't "I dig in the dirt so I must be poor", it is actually a LOT of money management from what my buddys told me. They EASILY drop a years salary of a car salesman on some equipment.

From what i have seen with farmers they do make a good amount of money but taxes and expenses on the farm eat up and reduce their income. Its easy for farmers to struggle because of that.

Yeah farm equipment is stupid expensive, but its normally a one time expense in the sense that you're not buying bush hogs every year, you just pay to maintain it. Also farmers have gotten bailed out multiple times over the last 2 decades, so they're getting government money too. Especially corn farmers

Even people who just work on farms and don't own the farms or buy the equipment tend to get paid a lot because it's a job that not very many people want to do.

That's what I thought, too. It was probably put into "petty revenge" because it felt petty, and didn't accomplish any great goal... unless you count keeping Entitled Aunt off the scent until the REAL ring resurfaced.

The ring story reminded me of my aunt. I was adopted by my grandparents. My grandpa always told me how jealous my dad and aunt were of me because when they'd do things for me they'd have to hear about it from them. I don't get along with my dad and aunt. The only people I call family are my grandparents. In 2016 my grandpa died of cancer. When I got the call I went to their house. I sat on the bed with my grandpa, held his hand and cried. My aunt walked up to me and all I heard was "Ugh. YOU got them?!" When my grandpa was diagnosed with cancer he gave me his wedding band and a ring he made my grandma. He told her he had a diamond ring for her. It was really a band made out of a quarter and the face from a liberty head dime filed out. Both coins were from the year she was born. She expected a diamond and got a "dime man" ring. He was such a smartass. He wanted me to have them because he feared they'd end up in a pawn shop. I'll never forget that moment with my aunt as long as I live.

Tammy DeFord what a nasty thing to say on her dads death bed. 😡 my nana picked a fight with me over my dads hospital bed, he got moved to a hospice place and died early the next morning, but I was so angry with her about that. She’s always treated me like that though. I just couldn’t understand why she would decide to use me as a punching bag over her dying sons body. Don’t let them bring you down anymore, you deserve better.

The "don't litter" story reminded me of something. I was coming out of the store a couple of weeks ago with my groceries...late evening...avoiding people. Saw a car pull into a parking space and the guy inside dumps a bunch of used masks on the ground beside his car and proceeds to pull on a new one and walk off to the store. Well....screw that! I proceed to pull out the bag I keep in my car to toss away used masks....pull on a pair of vinyl gloves (yep, keep those in the car too) and proceed to decorate his car with the masks he dumped...on his wipers, his door handles....even get the duct tape out of the trunk and tape them to his windows. Other people saw this and asked what happened...and joined in. So we had masks all over the car....i then pull 2 aisles away and park...and watch as the guy comes out and LOSES HIS MIND over all the masks. I had also hung the bag (with duct tape) from his door, with a note saying "please discard used masks HERE". I was even nice enough to put a pair of gloves in a baggy and tape that to his window to be helpful and not expose him to anyone else's germs. Petty, but made my day!

The best revenge against a bully is two fold: have a happy life AND have "no memory" of ever having met them. Especially if the bully had made your life a misery for a few years. "Oh, did you go to that high school too? And in those classes? Wow! You must have been a real wall flower! I don't remember anything about you at all! Are you sure we went there in the same years?"

the farmer thing: We have a family friend that had to go out back to his family farm (in a town of 260 people in Kansas) to run it after his dad passed away. I was talking to him when we went out to visit once and he was saying that one of those overhead sprinkler/watering machines that roll in a circle will cost from $75000-250000 by themselves, to say nothing of the tractors, harvesters, and whatnot (a new John Deere combine will cost half a million nowadays).

I use a walking cane and I’ve had that happen multiple times. I usually either ignore them or stand in front of them and gesture to my cane and knee brace (and sometimes I have to wear a back brace) with a “wtf dude?” look, then walk even slower. Once when it happened, a pedestrian behind me noticed, and smacked the hood of the honker’s car yelling, “wtf man?! Are you rude to all women or just disabled ones that can’t kick your slimy ass?!” The driver looked sheepish and sped off as soon as there was an opening.

This reminds me of a story of my own. Once, I was at a light, about to turn right, when the light turned green and an old lady started to cross the other road where I needed to go. Some idiot behind me had the gall to honk his horn at me. I mean, come on! If I'm not going, there's a good reason, even if you can't see the old lady crossing the street that would have gotten run over if I had taken a right. But, I just stood my ground and turned once the old lady got out of my way. After getting on the other road, the idiot who honked at me immediately passed me going at high speeds, obviously angry. I'm like, seriously. You didn't notice the old lady you passed who was most likely still on the crosswalk? All I thought, though, was what an idiot.

Walks up to one of the salesmen points to one of the most expensive cars and says "I want 2 of those" the salesman starts laughing uncontrollably for about 2 minutes. When he stops laughing his manager comes in and asks what's going on. My great uncle is furious and starts explaining what's going on. Salesman of the year gets fired on the spot and my great uncle buys his cars somewhere else.

I still think that the best story I've ever heard about dealing with jerks laying on their horns is one I heard about my great-grandfather. I don't know when it was exactly, but one day he was driving with his wife in an Oldsmobile with a V8 when a VW bug starts tailgating him and laying on his horn. My great-grandfather eventually decides to pull over to let the bug pass and slowly starts accelerating to close the distance between them until they eventually get to the point where their bumpers are literally touching. At that point, he just starts going faster and faster until eventually both cars were going way faster than the bug was ever meant to go. The person driving the bug was probably much more careful about being a jerk while driving in the future lol

When I was a kid, my dad worked at a car dealership. He used to take advantage of the perk at the lot for sales team members to take new arrivals for overnight test drives. I loved when he would test convertibles. Any way, one day this old farmer pulled up to the dealership while dad was finishing a sale. NO ONE would approach him! He had been wandering for over twenty minutes before my dad was free again. As he approached the old man some of my Dad's colleges jeered and told my dad he could have the old man as there was no way he would buy anything other than some back lot used car(paraphrased because I wasn't there and it's been 20 + years since my dad told this story.) Dad greeted him and they got to talking. Turns out this old farmer looking fellow in his overalls and beat up rusted dust buster was the owner of a fairly well off business with a fair few store chains who decided to buy a small farm when he retired for him and his family.(He still OWNed the business he just no longer ran it and was living off a share of the profits.) He had come in because he wanted to get a new car for his wife as hers was starting to have a few issues. Because my Dad had been the ONLY One to come help him, and to treat him like a person, this guy bought, not only, a brand new car for his wife, he also bought new cars for his three grown kids(two of which were still managing the family businesses) as well as a new truck for himself. My dad sold this guy Five brand new top end vehicles and this guy payed for all of them with cash! When he told us the story he reminded us to Never judge a person by their outward appearance. He made Top Seller that week and got a huge bonus all because his fellow salesmen couldn't look past this guys good ol' boy farm wear.

I had a boss lady once and she owned four hotels, two restaurants, two rental homes, and several shops in our town, plus many more in the surrounding towns. She loved to garden, and took care of many of the businesses landscaping. She wore t shirts and blue jeans most days and drove a VW bug most of the time or her truck if hauling stuff for landscaping. Don’t know how many visitors to the hotel I worked in made comments about her. Even had one person tell her she should not be taking her break in the lobby. She just laughed. That same person asked to talk to the manager the next day and told him he needed to tell the gardener not to take a break in the lobby. The manager laughed and said the gardener can take a break buck naked in the lobby if she wants to she owns the hotel. She did apologize though which is more than some do.

In my early 20’s I was shopping around to buy my first vehicle (a wrangler). I brought my father along because he has car buying and mechanical experience. He always stepped back when we were approached at the dealership but most of them walked right past me and shook his hand completely ignoring me. So I would say, no thank you I’m no longer interested in buying from you, then we left. I found my first Jeep at a dealership that sold auctioned vehicles. He spoke directly to me. Because of that, I would always check with him first when looking for a new vehicle. Moral of this story car salesmen, money has no gender, and that seemingly poor person might just come back later with more money if you treat them right.

I have the exact same story!! A man who was the very richest man town looked like he didn't have 2 cents to run together. The car dealership he walked into completely ignored him, he had a wad of hundreds in his pocket he couldn't fold them!! He came back about an hour later and said I just bought 2 cars in cash from your competitors!! Never ever judge a book by its cover!!

So I live in the Midwest and my roommate is in college for different food science/agriculture majors. One day he was telling me about different farmers that he has worked for, and some of them are insanely wealthy. Like one guy had a crazy good decade of harvests and just saved up every year, and now he has a storage warehouse just for cars that he likes. He doesn't drive them. He just buys them brand new or from auctions and just sits them in the warehouse on his land so he can just walk in there and look at them. Not to mention, a lot of farm tractors cost more than exotic supercars, and sometimes farmers have to build extra barns so they can get tax breaks because they made too much money that year. This isn't all of them obviously, but some of them are really well off, they just don't live lavishly because they don't want to.

So true, what also makes a difference is if the farm owns the land and/or how much land the farmer is planting. Not just location and yields and crop type.

"Gas station door lock" reminds me of a nuclear revenge story my brother once told me. Short-as-I-can-version: my brother was helping a friend of his with his lawn and yard maintenance business. One day, as they were loading up at the end of a job, some kids drove by and hit the friend with an egg. He was understandably angry. They finished loading up and drove to the nearest gas station for a drink, and who was there, but the kids who threw the egg!! They were inside, and their car was still open, and the remaining 11 eggs out of the dozen were still in the car, so the friend smashed most of the eggs all over the inside of their car. He then waited with the last few eggs, and when the kids came out, threw them at them.

So, on the ring story: I work in the jewelry industry buying estate jewelry. It might seem like the dad in that situation went through all this extra trouble just to get pettyrevenge but I'd actually call this a pro move. I can't TELL you how many families deal with years and years of grief when a loved one dies, all over that loved one's prized possessions. The dad basically spared himself all of that and gave his jeweler friend some business to boot. Go him!

I work in an industry that does a lot of transactions in cash. I can almost guarantee if a guy comes in in a sharp business suit he's gonna be spending £1-£10 max, its those unassuming guys, generally a bit older who just look like every other guy on the street, who will shock you by spending thousands. They tend to just potter about the town or go to the pub in the afternoon, never underestimate how much money some of these guys put away for their retirement.

My uncle is a general contractor who, with my dad and my other three uncles, was raised on a farm. My uncle is also one of the people who decided to buy H&M stocks when that company went public. I will never forget my dad trying to keep a straight face while telling me how he watched my uncle, dressed in overalls, snow mobile gloves, and heavy boots, marched into NK (think Nordstrom) and up to this really REALLY expensive crystal bowl. You could apparently hear the collective puckering of the store clerks' assholes as he jabbed his hands under his arms, pulled his gloves off, then gently lifted the bowl up and walked it to the counter. According to my dad said puckering was not nearly as loud as when their jaws slammed into the counter as my uncle payed for the stupidly expensive bowl with a debit card (you know, the kind with no credit on it). My Grandma really appreciated the birthday gift.

My friends dad did the ol car dealsership trick. He’s pretty well off, and wanted to get a cadillac as his work car, as he didn’t wanna keep driving his big old truck around. He went into a dealership one day, in a white t shirt and some tattered jeans, he knew what was probably going to happen. Nobody said anything to him. Then he went home, changed, got clean, and went back in his same big truck. Multiple employees tried to walk up to him. He told them that its not right to ignore someone just because theyre wearing a t shirt and tattered jeans. You don’t know who they are. He bought a cadillac, at a big discount lol because the employees kinda knew they could get them in trouble haha

The story about the dealership reminds me of a story a college instructor told us once. His brother in law is a heavy implement salesman in Florida(farm tractors, combine harvesters, plows, dump trucks, etc). And one day a man in a beat up pickup, wearing muddy overalls and construction boots pulled into the dealership. None of the sales staff are going out to talk to him, "because he looks like a schlep." Teachers in law goes out, turns out the guy owns a clear cutting/removal business and is upgrading his fleet before hurricane season hits. Ended up buying a dozen dump trucks and a few heavy duty dually pickups, said his brother in law got away with an almost $250,000 commission on the sale.

I had a teacher who had done many things in his life, including working at a private plane dealership. He told a story (I don't recall if he was there of if it was just a tale coworkers told) about a very casually dressed man with a big paper bag coming to the dealership. No one paid him any mind except the new guy who went ahead and assisted the man in shopping. When the man had made his choice he handed the guy the paper bag which turned out to be filled with hundreds of thousands of dollars in CASH. There was like 20k more in there than was needed and the guy was told to keep it because he'd been so nice and respectful despite his appearance. When asked why he was dressed that way by others, he replied 'If *you* were carrying hundreds of thousands in cash, would you dress like it?'

Sweet Jeebuzz! The story about Meanie hit me like a ton of bricks! I have never seen or heard of anyone else pulling that stunt on a beyotch besides ME! I ran into a rather nasty piece of work at a Costco not long after my husband's passing. She knew him through her work, and many of her co-workers gossiped about our marriage and claimed I was after his "money". The irony of that was that he was left pretty close to destitute from a divorce, and I was the one with the money! Anyway, this beyotch tried to corner me at Costco, and I rankled at the very sound of her voice. I pretended I did not recognize her and had no clue who she was. After a solid five minutes of her trying to "remind" me who she was, I just shrugged my shoulders and said, "sorry - cannot place you at all". She just muttered an apology of sorts for "bothering me" and then wandered off confused. JUSTICE! You made my day including this story, rSlash!

Speaking of the "looking poor" my buddy used to work as a commercial door repairman. He went down to this farm land to do some repairs knowing the owner was a 10's of millionaire because he owned the company that did all of the trash pickup for the nearby cities. They finished up for the day and a helicopter comes and lands by the house and this old farmer looking dude hops out in dirty overalls. He asked if they were done, they said yes can you let the owner know (they hadn't met him) and he stated he was the owner. He flew back and forth to work in a helicopter and worked on his land in all his free time and was a really humble nice dude from what I was told. Don't judge a book by it's cover

The aunt and the ring very much reminded me of my own entitled aunt too. During the last months of my grandma's life. She had a few jewelries that were precious to her and one of that is a gold ring that has a 3-4 carat diamond. My aunt has laid her eyes on that ring and decided to sneak in my grandma's room to steal it. She got caught and explained to my grandma that she is just going to borrow it for an event she will attend. For weeks my grandma was looking for it, asking on where she put it. Then what happened next is what enraged me so much. She lied about losing it and 'accidentally' flushing it down the toilet, this of course ruined my grandma's day but she believed in her. The next week my grandma finds my aunt just casually wearing it around. As the kind old lady she was, my grandma decided to just let it go and take it all in, before she could visit our home (a worry place for her). The next day she visited our house while carrying the purse where she kept all of her jewelry. She gave me a small diamond ring and a pair of dark ruby earrings for my little sister as our inheritance, while the others in the purse were given to my parents. We were all shocked and of course worried why she is suddenly giving all of her precious jewelry. (We didn't know it was one of the last days we will see her.) My grandmother then explained that she didn't want her last memories to be kept by 'such' a person (referring to my aunt). My parents thanked her for the offer but we only accepted the ring and the earrings to be respectful as we don't want others (my aunts and uncles) to think of it wrongly. She reluctantly agreed and went home after the sun had set. Just a week after she had a heart attack, a complication from her lung condition, she was hospitalized for weeks before passing away. A night before her burial, each and every of her children was to give a eulogy (a tribute speech for the dead) to my grandma. When the time for my aunt to give her speech, my parents' eyes landed on the diamond ring she stole from my grandmother. I literally saw my mom clench her jaw in anger. It was when I realized why they're mad, it was because of the ring. It reminded them how much she mistreated my grandmother when she was alive. My aunt even fueled the fire when she talked bad about my grandma on how she don't mind her own business and won't let my aunt have fun. To cut the long story short, after she gave her speech my family and one of my uncle's family doesn't invite her and her family to family gatherings unless it's a reunion.
