Right?! I don't understand why someone would complain about a repeated story. People can just skip it if they don't want to listen to it again. We all talk about various situations more than once sometimes as we don't always remember what we told specific people. There are soooo many stories that it's not a surprise there would be a repeat every so often.

2nd story: "It's called feature creep, and a real game dev knows how to deal with it." Yeah. You begin development with a set goal in mind put clearly in a design document. You focus on creating the essential game mechanics for your game loop first to make sure the game is actually fun, and then you can start looking to add additional features. Trying to add every little thing that comes to your mind at once is a great way to never get anything done.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve ever learned from this channel is “Never F*** with the IT Guy” especially when they are also the programer. I almost halfway thought OP would’ve programmed an Achilles Heel into his code just as a way to ensure he didn’t get screwed over but the contract was almost just as satisfying. But I think they should make sure to teach that in those computer schools to always program an Achilles Heel in your code so no one can screw you over.

The great thing about programming is that you can approach it from two completely different angles. One is the math side, where you see it as a bunch of formulas and equations. Which it is. The other is the linguistics side, where you see it as a language you speak with the machine. Which it also is. There are even programming languages specifically designed to be more of a language or more of a set of equations, to put it very simply. And, "Computer Linguistics" is actually an entire field within linguistics and computer science. Where programming is concerned, it really does take all kinds of people.

Mind you the guy was at least 10 years older than my young adult self. Was filling it out when the last row said something about the money I'd donate lines after I already put my signature down. Crossed it off and wanted to book it outta there when he grabbed my arm to inform me of my "mistake", I was this close to smacking him because A) you don't do that and B) just out of shock. Okay, so the a second story isn't exactly a repeat, but the story has been here before. The last time I heard it, it didn't mention AR (it was maybe something like building from scratch rather than using Unreal or something), so it was probably a few years ago. Someone probably copypasted the story on Reddit and updated it as theirs.

Another truck driver here, and in the first story, the truck and driver in question are almost certainly Schneider.

Im pretty sure the trucking company was Schneider. U-Haul doesnt have semi trucks, and thats what hes referring to. Also i tink shneider doesnt do owner/operators(i could be wrong) and thats why he says the driver was a company driver

"judge said I was asking to much as it would bankrupt them" ummmm fuck that they signed the contract why do they get a get out of bankruptcy free card just because they didnt read a contract that based on what OP was doing wasnt outrageous.......I should get this judge to absolve me of all my debts because they are "asking to much of me".........

Who cares if it bankrupts them? They didn't read the contract, and ran up that bill. How is it fair to essentially tell OP that he needs to eat the cost of his time and labor so they can continue to run a business? I was in a similar boat working a flooring job in a newly built state prison. My work was contracted and then subcontracted and then subcontracted one more time to the guy who hired me. Turns out when you work a state/government trade job, there is a minimum amount to pay me over hour, and I was getting paid half that. Not to mention I had to travel by car about 8 hours from home (on my own time) to get there, and they had us stay in a sleepy motel, sometimes they wouldn't pay for the hotel and we would show up and have to wait a few hours past midnight to wait for them to pay for the room. Eventually all the bullshit boiled over and we went to the labor board. I was owed something like 25,000$ (2019) but only wnded up getting paid half of that because for some reason, investors making a risky business venture with a shady contractor is more of a reason to give them their money than to pay the person who actually did the work. We went to mediation. I agreed to settle for 18k instead of going to a judge, because I was over it all, at this point I'd been fighting this battle for about 6 months. I signed a non disclosure agreement to not bad talk his business or him, but guess what? He never finished the payments. I ended up receiving only about 16,000$, and he filed for bankruptcy. So in my (terrible) legal opinion, that NDA I signed is null and void since he didn't pay me the full amount I agreed on to stay quiet. Fuck you Moises Ramirez, and fuck inland empire flooring. Sue me you bastard, you don't have the balls or leg to stand on in court.

I'm actually kinda happy for the re-read of the second story. Lets me say that feature creep is one of the worst things to happen to a game under development. I get that you can change your mind about a feature several times during development, but the more you add and change compared to the original plans, the more you waste the programmers' time
@DSoSJohnH

feature creep killed one of my programs years ago. I kept adding and adding and removing things. It got to the point that I burned myself out. It was so bad that I said screw it and deleted everything. I shouldn't have deleted it. That was a years worth of work for nothing. I still kick myself for that.
