You have no Idea how this touches my heart. I'm in India as I'm writing this doing a 200 hour Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga teacher training. I'm finishing up this week. I just randomly came across this video and the flow of what they are doing is exactly to the tee what we are doing right now. No changes at all. It is a blessing to see this tradition carrying on untouched for hundreds of years and makes me even more proud that i am part of this tradition ❤️

Back in 1980 he came to Maui to teach in paia. The class was very large 50 to 75 students A woman came up to me and asked if I had ever done yoga before I said no and should have added not in this lifetime lol He walked over and stood in front of me I could see and feel all of India behind him We just looked at each other and broke out laughing PRICELESS After that I was "you funny lady you do ?" "Yes gurugi I do !" "You do again " Whenever he had gatherings on Maui and I wasn't there he would say "Nancy call funny lady !" I love hearing his voice and remembering Our special connection Going to start again after many years, I am now 77, and will be doing a modified version of primary series Love you so much you have been my one and only spiritual teacher this lifetime

It's interesting that Sharath doesn't roll over his feet in up dog. I also notice in vinyasa one of sun sal his arms arent straight. Parshvottanasana B his thigh isnt parallel with floor. These are just curious observations not critiquing lol The way some current teachers insist on certain anatomical alignments youd think they would want to jump in and correct lol. I am curious why he doesnt roll over his feet, are others doing this? Love watching Guruji and Sharath in action!!
@mugglebungle7 жыл бұрын
if you don't roll over your feet it puts more strain into your back.... great if you can handle it.... most people are pretty stiff and weak, which is why rolling over your feet is usually taught.....

Does anyone know the second part of the invocation the Guruji and Sharath recite? It seems to be one that only the teacher gives before practice; I'm curious as to its translation and origin. (After "pranamami Pantanjalim, OM")

@@astangajoogi Sharath was pushed by his mother to teach while Pattabhi had chosen his son Manju as his successor, but Manju decided to stay as far away from Mysore and his greedy sister. LOL. In 1997 the people who studied with Pattabhi Jois during the 70's and 80's were already teaching since many years while Sharath was still a student so his practice here is not 100% perfect and I always thought his body was very frail compared to other practitioners. Anyway I find that today's emphasis on perfection is not what the practice is about as Yoga is not fitness but a spiritual science if the 8 limbs are applied, when I started in early 90's nobody was doing any inversions or handstands apart from Chakrasana/Urdhva Dhanurasana unless they were very advanced students like in this video but now everyone aims at the acrobatic show... at the end its all good if it leads you on the path.
