I think it’s more that Madonna is a straight woman (assumedly, I don’t know all that much about her). And that it’s been so much more acceptable for women to kiss other women rather than men to kiss other men. Like, there was a musician whose name I forget that kissed another man during a live show, a short time after the photo of Madonna (again, I may be wrong about this, so do check your facts), and he got a lot of immediate backlash; he had multiple interviews cancelled, and the first one he *did* get after that event was *incredibly* loaded with judgement (it had the ‘think of the children’ thing, a ‘what were you thinking’ question) and he brought up Madonna kissing another woman and how that had been received differently. His point was then proved when they played two clips. The first was Madonna, kissing another woman. The second was him, except the news channel blurred the two men’s faces out when he kissed (so the actual kiss could not be seen). I’m not saying that Madonna didn’t receive hate for her part, but the acceptance and representation of gay men and gay women in media is disproportionate. Lil’ Nas X is more recently in the spotlight, and he’s been getting a lot of backlash for being unapologetic about his sexuality, especially from other men of colour. Like, a lot. And he refuses to back down when bigoted people try to strike out at him. Also, I’m saying this as a white, cisgender gay guy, but we have far too many white cisgender gay characters in media that panders to straight media (see: all the character arcs that focus on the ‘coming out’ struggle. There are so many more stories than that). TL;DR: Bisexual people are valid. I will never dispute that. Yes, they’re vastly underrepresented and misrepresented, along with many, many other identities; but iirc, Madonna is a straight white woman who kissed another straight white woman. Lil’ Nas X is an openly gay black man who kissed another gay black man (assuming the sexuality here, whoops). Society tends to deem the former as acceptable and the latter as reprehensible.
