Back in High School, I decided to take Naval ROTC instead of gym mostly because I was actually interested in joining the Navy. Complications with ptsd from my childhood started getting worse, I suppose, and I knew that already having a mental disorder would be the thing that keeps me out of the Navy. But at one point we took a trip to Norfolk, Virginia and got to tour the base there. Well we did get to tour a Carrier, a Destroyer, a Submarine, the museum, and a few different jets. But NOT ONCE, did they EVER let us into the actual cockpits. Even decomissioned Aircraft is disallowed for tourism.

So many of these stories are believable like halfway in. Being a balding guy but knowing how to speak to women? Sure. Giving cheesy one liners to a crying woman and she sleeps with you that night? Uhh... A guy hearing a girl give her name as a character from his favourite books or movies and giving a matching name after her? Sure, we just heard that one guys lines, entirely possible. The barista crying (!?) and giving you free pastries? Again, uhh... They go from unlikely to unbelievable so fast.

1:41 felt like the literal definition of the r/ThatHappened stereotype. It had everything- the unrealistic standards of martial arts, the ludicrous threatening situation, the effortless defeating of the threat, the public congratulations, the crush falling in love with the protagonist in the end- i swear to god it’s the textbook example, the shining stereotype of everything r/ThatHappened stands for. It’s a complete disaster, and yet it could not be more perfect. The thing that always slays me is the whole “knowing karate” part. It’s always karate. Jujitsu is probably many times more applicable in the fights that take place in these stories, but I get it. They’re kids, and Karate is a recognizable martial art. I myself even trained in Karate, and I actually even *almost* earned my black belt in it (moved away and left my dojo before I could, and I still wish I could have earned it.) I’m not even that old- people in my dojo have been able to earn their black belts at age 16. But the whole thing that slays me about these stories is that they don’t even describe anything they know about the martial art. (Especially the fact that probably one of the first rules of Karate is that it’s about respect and honoring you opponent, and you are never to use karate unless it is strictly in self defense and you have no other options available to you. Literally one of the first things we taught new kids was “if you’re in a fight, run away”. Karate is about protecting yourself, not winning bouts.)

The misophonia one is kinda understandable. . My dad and I both have misophonia. When he was little he smacked a friend across the face on accident because he was chewing with his mouth open. When you have misophonia you are sensitive to certain repetitive sounds. You become irrationally annoyed and aggressive. I get bothered by my dog’s mouth noises (licking, smacking, that kinda stuff.) also to scratching noises such as knifes on plates, forks on teeth, chalk boards, branches on windows. I love my dog very much but when I hear those noises I get extremely angry and stressed out. I have to get up and get her water so she will stop smacking her mouth. People think it’s funny to mock people likes us but it seriously stresses us out. I have a lot of patience and I’m guessing that person didn’t.
@arzxna46463 жыл бұрын
Also just because you have misophonia does not make hurting others acceptable. You may be impulsive but that’s something you need to control to some degree. I may yell at someone for making noises but I have enough self control not to hurt them.

The story about the F4 could very likely have happened. There is no way that a tour on military aircraft is going to be in a loaded/fueled aircraft, and the electrical systems are disabled without a key, so flipping switches wouldn't have done anything. I grew up around military jets (dad in the Navy, I've lived on Naval Air Stations for over half of my life), and the starting sequence is actually quite simple to just 'get it off the ground'. However, before the pilots fly, they go through a rigorous 5-10 minute check of all flight surfaces/controls/instruments/etc, I'm sure you've seen it all in Hollywood. Flipping some of the most immediately noticeable switches actually gives you a half decent chance of getting a good bit of the start-up on a jet correct. I'm not saying that it did happen, I'm just saying that it isn't quite as improbable as you might think.

To be fair all it does take to talk to women is just confidence and sometimes a cheesy pickup line is good enough but don't be a piece of crap targeting upset and vulnerable women And for women this'll definitely work for guys too And for gay people just make sure you're in a gay/lesbian bar if you're gonna assume sexuality

Hey I'm an actual black belt in karate. We don't teach drop kicks, but we do teach that if someone has a gun, cooperate and only attack the gun if you're sure it's out of battery.

"i ahve anger issues so im a badass" as a person who grew up with autism and many behavioural issues, my anger didn't make me seem badass, it made me seem mean and unapproachable, and it ruined my social capabilities. anger issues arent quirky and cool, they are a genuine issue for eople like me

A few ways ways of calling out someone's fake story: Emojis. Bad grammar. Talking about their "unique" abilities as if they're not obviously projecting their insecurities. Having so much pride in their radical ideals that some of the people they interact with are somehow absolutely like-minded. "Everyone started clapping" 👏

At my old elementary school, around 3rd grade, I had a lovely substitute teacher who claimed she was a relative of Chris Pratt. This was back when the Lego Movie was announced, so I and some of the other kids were ecstatic. Before she left, she showed us a picture of her husband with Chris Pratt, his cousin. Sadly, I never saw that substitute again.
