Katie Piper is amazing. She’s one of those truly inspirational people - she was r*ped, almost killed and had acid poured on her face - all because her ex was a monster who couldn’t let her go, so he paid someone to do this to her.

10:03 (10:54) It's actually *good* that you answered in the middle of the day. They are looking for houses where _nobody answers_ because then they know that nobody is home during the day and they can potentially come back and rob the house during that time. The fact that you answered them may well have kept your house off of any potential "hit list".

the hand warmer is also known as Taschenwärmer (pocket warmer) and is pretty common here in germany. when you bend the metal plate the liquid in the pack undergoes a chemical reaction where it crystalizes and heats up. it can get up to 60°C at the beginning so just activate them and put them in your jacket pockets. wait for about 2-3 minutes and then put your hands in your pockets and your hands will be confy warm.

On the note of fake sales people looking for who answers in the middle of the day, it's not that they're looking for houses where you do, they're looking for houses where you don't. Answering the door means someone's home, someone being home means a witness, a witness means they won't get away with the likely robbery. They want houses where you don't answer since most robbery's don't happen at night. Think about it, Would you wanna rob a house where you know people are almost definitely gonna be there and asleep or one where they're out and no ones home?
@synonym1196

I wonder if that style of casing houses is less successful these days. I know lots of people (myself included) who pretend they aren't home when they see salespeople at their door, which would make things very awkward for the robber breaking in.

I think if I remember right the game is called knuckle bones. (As it is played with those bones which are typically sheep and sometimes pig bones from the knuckle part of the hoof) It is a predecessor of modern games played with dice! Things similar to pocket roulette wheels still exist and have a few variations available still being made. For example I was gifted a pocket lotto number picker at a recent convention. It was smaller, shaped like a cilinder. Had multiple "wheels" inside stacked one on top of the other, that would randomly rotate at the push of a button on the top with a small window to view the randomly generated number. Meant to help you choose a lottery number. I know is not the exact same thing but it's clearly a variation and there are more variations out there

11:45 I doubt it's a ball bearing. IME, ball bearings are rarely used in any industrial equipment, at least in high load areas. They're garbage for anything that might experience a high axial load and they have a high point load when loaded radially. Heavy stuff uses journal/plain bearings or tapered/cylindrical roller bearings, depending on use case and era. Ball bearings are great for relatively light loads at high speeds, but that's about it.

The Mongolian sheep bones are just knuckle bones a game common all around the world. I had a set as a kid, they are made out of metal because plastic does not weigh enough to fall correctly when playing with them.

where I live, we don't have fancy "avalanch mitigation pods". instead we have avalanch mortar canons. just fire explosives into the side of the mountian to knock off loose snow! gotta say, it is a bit scary hearing mortar fire while snowshoing out in the middle of the woods

It's funny you never heard of hand warmers! Here in Michigan they are our saving grace during the winter especially hunting season, there's also feet warmers and some that will stick to the inside of your coat to rest against your torso to keep it warm

I did shotput and discuss for three years, even got ranked quite high in my state, that ball looks exactly like a 12 or 16 pound shotput. As to the confusion from the redditor as to why it is the "wrong weight" well if it is a 16 pound shotput then it would any male competitor past the highschool level since female competitors regardless of age use the 12 pound.

5:52 I mean... yes... but actually, no. It is the power of magnetism between two molecules, but because the electrons on the outermost layer of the atoms interact with each other forming binds through a magnetic fenomena related to electron spin. But it's not necessary magnetism because it only works with materials that can react with Stainless steel because of their properties.

The Iron ball is used in rock-crushing in gold and silver mines, they are put inside a drum rock crusher where they pound the rocks into powder for the separation tanks.

"Sheep bones" is close but not correct but it is a game called "knuckle bone" it sort of Luke jackes, you but the five "bones" on the back of your hand but for flipping your hand the count on paper the names refer to patterns the "bones" land in.

11:10 All I can say is that is no train ball bearing, locomotives, cars and most if not all railroad equipments use ROLLER bearings not ball bearings. 13:25 Those are indeed the spherical cargo tanks from a LNG tanker, if what my port worker friend told me is true those are covered in foil.

Stainless steel soap is a scent remover. If you've ever noticed your hands smelling like garlic for hours after chopping some no matter how many times you wash them, it actually does a pretty good job at removing tough scents like that. What was in the picture looks nothing like that though. There's no reason stainless steel soap would have a joint and a ring attached to it. It's definitely exactly what you thought it was.

Stainless steel soap is something that sounds dumb but you would be really surprised. Obviously real soap is always better but if your out of soap but have one of these suckers available you would be shocked or weirded out with just how well these actually work. Its mind boggling.
