There are almost always roles in ballet that can be filled by a man. A lot of times they need someone taller and stronger to do a bit of dancing and then lift up a girl in a pose that makes them hard to balance (thus makes them _feel_ heavier). But they sometimes just need a male lead, or they just want some dudes to balance out the girls, or they just don’t mind hiring guys to dance like the girls for whatever reasons the guys want to dance. Ballet isn’t just tutus and slippers, it’s proper dance that conveys a story, and you can have masculine dances that are still plenty fluid and “light”

I looked up that Oregon story. I cannot believe that four years of highschool WWII classes followed by way too much WWII tv and I never learned about this. This man offered his family's samarai sword as a peace offering. You can see his Katana in the local library. He also planted a Redwood sapling as another symbol of peace. He was made an honorary citizen for his ongoing ambassadorial efforts towards peace. Why Are We Not Taught About Him?

The answer that's most likely is because they didn't want to humanize the Japanese in WW2 retelling.

I don't know specifically about him but the whole not talking about the bombing which if I remember correctly and I might be wrong but the planes were launched from a submarine and they dropped fire bombs which ended up barely doing any damage, especially in comparison to the weapons we eventually dropped on their home soil. But yeah I believe it was the last conventional attack on US soil. And yes you read that right the Japanese had subs that could launch planes. But the not telling the story is likely for propaganda reasons initially and then just got shoved aside by time.

I'd also like to add from a British perspective (warning, kinda unwholesome and quite frustrating) - Alan Turing, we never learned about him in school even after a year or so solid on WW2 and Britain's involvement (tbf it wasn't public knowledge until 2011, but still) he lead the team that cracked the enigma code (the supposedly uncrackable code), specifically, he designed and created a computer that could crack any of the 3 different forms of enigma encryption that the Nazis used, by experts' estimate, he and his team shortened the war in europe by 2 years and saved at least 13M lives. It was kept secret for over 70 years because British Military Intelligence believed that a war with the Soviet Union was most likely to happen and so wanted to keep it secret in case they used the Enigma machine. He died in 1952 because he was gay, he was gay in a country where it was illegal at the time and he was chemically castrated, he killed himself whilst on the chemical castration. 13 million lives, shortened the war in Europe by 2 years, and he died with no recognition from the public, none from even the PM at the time (it was kept secret from even Churchil) he died because his country, the one he saved countless lives of, punished him for being gay, because bigotry does not care about who you save, it only cares about the fact your life is different to theirs. My generation did not grow up hearing of him, but I hope every kid, teen and adult learns his name, Churchill often gets called a hero when he was just a white suprematist who lucked through leading a country through war. Turing is a far greater hero than Churchill and deserved all oof the praise Churchil got and more Remember his name, Alan Turing, the man who gave so much to save lives and got nothing but hate in return

As a Star Wars fan you'd be surprised how wholesome/fun the Star Wars community can be. The majority are fine, it's just the loud obnoxious ones on social media that give it a bad look and try to sound edgy for attention. There's also non Star Wars fans who know nothing about it who like to say what sucks and what doesn't, which I can do nothing but laugh at.

6:54 so this firebombing was designed to start forest fires all over Oregon with 4 bombs, which would cause panic , how ever all but one of the bombs failed to detonate. and the other one was quickly tended to by forest rangers. basically no damage was caused which is probably why the US was so forgiving

Had to watch me some wholesome stuff. My dad is an amputee, so he gets a lot of real little kids (like toddlers) who stare at fake leg. He just smiles because he knows they're just amazed; it's not something you see every day. There was one time he told this little girl "you can touch it if you want" so she creeped over, poked his leg, and then ran back to her parent. My dad loves little kids like that because they are just so pure and fun, and he loves their rambling. After all, whatever they're saying is important to them, so he always listens to them.

4:09 maybe I’m high asf but this part made me cry. Especially in the past couple years, I’ve had this overarching terrible anxiety of the world is going to end in 10 years, I can’t have kids because the world will end, we won’t be able to breath in a couple years and a bunch of other horrible dystopian dooming thoughts loooing in my head. I felt like even what I loved most didn’t ultimately matter because we will all die in a decade, even though that isn’t remotely true. Robin I needed to hear this so bad what you said to n that clip really really helps me. I didn’t even know the ozone hole was fixed and there are ways and things we can do to undo what we’ve done. You reminded me humans are persistent and passionate and we aren’t just all doomed to die in a few years. Thank you

The Nobuo Fujita story is completely true and has one of the best endings. On September 9th, 1942 in response to the Doolittle Raid, Nobuo Fujita flew his floatplane from a submarine off the coast of Oregon. The aim of the mission was to cause a forest fire and show that the US was very vulnerable in the same way that the Doolittle Raid did for Japan. Fujita dropped two incendiary bombs into the a Redwood Forest near the small town of Brookings OR, but due to malfunction or due to the rainy weather the bombs failed to go off. Fujita then asked to do a second mission and on September 29th he completed a second mission, but the same thing happened as in the first mission. Fujita was hailed as a hero on returning to Japan and spent most of the war as an instructor for new pilots. After the war he and his family opened a hardware shop until in 1962 Fujita announced to his family that he was going to visit Brookings to apologize to the people he had tried to kill 20 years before. In Brookings there was a fierce debate about whether or not they should invite him, with a newspaper stating that inviting Fujita was tantamount to putting the ashes of Judas, the corpse of Attila and burying them at the spot where a certain failed Austrian Painter died. Ultimately they decided to invite him over where as a profound apology he presented his 400 year old family sword to the residents, gave $1,000 to the local library to buy English books about Japan, and promised to host a study abroad program for Brooking's students. He fulfilled his promise to host those Brooking's students later in his life despite his company going bankrupt. In 1995 he returned to Brookings to put his family's sword in a special display at the public library and in 1997 when he was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, Brookings made him an honorary citizen and an ambassador of international goodwill. He passed away on October 2nd, 1997 at the age of 85. Here is where the ending gets really wholesome. For those that don't know Japan has a major controversy over its' shrines to the dead, since those shrines include Japanese soldiers that died in WW2 including many many war criminals. You can see why that would be controversial right? Well, when Fujita passed away, his family felt that a militaristic shrine was not the place he should be buried. So the family brought his ashes to the US and buried them near Mount Emily, which is near Brookings, nearby where he dropped the bombs all those years before. There as a fulfillment of his goal in life to make peace with Brookings, they buried his ashes and planted a redwood sapling. His Daughter said that now his soul would forever be flying over the forests of Oregon.

7:00 To be fair, I couldn't explain it to you either. Here (EU), we mostly heard about a few minor attacks around the coast before and after Pearl Harbour. The main thing that made it into our history books is the fact that the US took island after island advancing towards Japan and the two bombs. Nothing much was said about the immediate aftermath except that the Japanese surrendered after that.

I started dating my bestfriend at 14, we’ve been together for 2 years so far, and we are both autistic, so we are equally as strange, and we have fun everyday, we both know each other’s favourite things, so, when we are upset or overwhelmed, (which happens a lot) what we do, is start rambling about each other’s favourite things, sometimes we talk for hours, or only a few minutes, because we love our special interest so much the second someone mentions it, we immediately want to talk about it, and it nearly always helps us snap out of it, then after we had calmed down, we would talk for hours about our favourite things, sometimes we talk into the early mornings and sleep late into the afternoon, and go out at night. Dude im so in love with her.

So I was going to say something about how if you break down the strength agility and coordination it takes to dance ballet and also make it look graceful it actually makes most professional sports looks simple by comparison. But instead I'm going to point out that the it seems kinda funny to act like the hobby that puts you in contact with a bunch of pretty girls is somehow less manly than the one that may or may not end up getting you hurt. Before anyone says anything no I'm not making fun of sports people. I definitely don't have the abilities athletes have. And I'm not saying that guys that go into dance are trying to meet girls. That would be a pretty stupid thing to say. What I'm saying is it's funny how people act like dance is less manly than sports but they ignore the face that by most people's definition of masculinity dancers are up there.

9:40 on the first date I went on with my girlfriend, now wife, she went to kiss me and got a nose bleed. Me, being a total weeb, said, "Wow, it really is like an anime." We've been happily married for two years now, and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with her.

Yes, west coast US did have a few things happen during ww2... we learned about it briefly in apush, think the areas were either largely unpopulated or the impacts were really minor (that was like 20yrs ago, sorry, don't remeber much more of the details)

16:46 It's the same with Star Trek fans. I love the franchise but they really act as if the shows post 2017 are the worst things to happen to the franchise. A franchise that had humans turn into lizards and have babies.

4:50 oh I'm not worried about a humanity. I'm worried about all of the creatures that will die, and all of the Wonders that Humana they will lose for no reason other than greed. We lost the northern white rhinos because of poaching - even though as a poacher you would think you would want the species to exist so that you can continue to poach a lucrative resource.
