Good video showing leaky fork being serviced using a "Seal Mate" product and it works !!! Well done.

I cut a similar shape thing out of a plastic milk carton. I used it on a leaking fork leg of my ZXR400 and so far it hasn't leaked since. I inserted it three times each time running all the way round followed by a dozen or so compressions of the forks. Thanks for the video, gave me the confidence to try it out.

You can expect a substantial amount of oil to come out when you wedge this tool in between the seal and fork! Think about it, the leak was most likely caused by a tiny piece of dirt/grit In the first place! So wedging apart the seal even more with the tool will result in much more oil leaking out! So ideally you want to do this procedure as swiftly as possible, But if you notice the oil continues to poor out even after you remove the tool then unfortunately it may be time to change the seals!

Just did this to one of my fork seals. I lucked out as the seal seated on my first series of pumps after cleaning. Good stuff.

seal mate worked on hayabusa 2009 for right front seal leak. I used brake kleen to remove oil so the dust seal would create a good surface contact. No more leak!!

Seems quite useful. If there is a mist of any oil on the fork sanctions it’s an MoT failure. So this is good for preventing any weeping between MoT and seal replacement.

Definitely not as easy as they make it look haha. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I thought I did something wrong.

Used to use a feeler gauge to do the exact same trick. Does work on off road bikes well as they are exposed to alot of dirt and dust etc.

This tool has worked for me so far 400mls no more leaks .

If I could kiss you I would, I was using the tool wrong I didn’t know there was a plastic seal on it that you had to use to remove the dirt from it I pumped it 20 times and it’s no longer leaking 😍

Not wanting to hate but be very carefull i went down because a forkleg was leaking the whole front was covered including brakediscs... im rebuilding the bike now ...
@andresdiagama36536 жыл бұрын
so what happened you went to brake with the front brake and it had not grip or bite cause of the oil on the brake disk??

And you just removed most of your seal grease. Probably have a lot of "Sticktion" (Forks sticking and not moving easily). You can try a little high temp wheel bearing grease. Slide your dust cap down again, smear a small film of grease around the shock up buy the outer tube. Compress the fork lightly to push the grease into a ring then compress the forks as hard as you can several times to force the grease in the seal. This should help with the "sticktion" and may help with a minor leaking seal. My guess is you really need to replace you seals. Watch Dave Moss Tuning videos...

Since most Motion Pro parts are from Taiwan. They are available in U.S. at "PLASTIC MILK CARTON" Just saying.
@troublingleaf7 жыл бұрын
Tubergen MotorSports sounds good, I was thinking about that myself but the edge needs to be blunt so as not to fray or cut in to the seal, milk carton seems more risky to me

it could help but better to put new ones in and then you have shorten the inne springs a little

this is only a temporary fix if the seals are waering you need new ones without a doubt. i just had mine done 80 quid
@azzkam89727 жыл бұрын
gsxr 1000 I disagree! If the seals were worn out you wouldn't be able to "temporarily" stop the leak! It would continue to leak when you ride! And my forks are still leak free and it's been over a year since I done this.

I have a 2001 Honda VFR800. Would this method work with my bike as well you think?
@azzkam89726 жыл бұрын
Jay Tio it should work with all fork seals unless the fork seals are damaged.

I used one on my bike and some oil did come out but not enough to worry about considering the leaking stopped.This is a great product if you use it right.I do think I can make one of these myself tho.Still it's a great idea and tool.

leaks because is cold.
@rc34897 жыл бұрын
do you want to pump it with the dust seal down? does it matter?
@azzkam89727 жыл бұрын
Ryan Chobak once you've cleaned the fork and dust seal it may be best to leave the dust seal on whilst pumping to prevent more dust and dirt getting wedged in between the seal again.
@rc34897 жыл бұрын

I've heard this work but for only a month or so. Has anyone used this as permanent fix?
@Alteriukas4 жыл бұрын
Seals are not permanent lol. It will leak and its quite regular maintenance to change seals and oil in those forks.
