You Aussie mates are a riot to listen to. You blokes arent dill. You certainly give a mate a fair go and are fair dinkum. So now I will tackle my seal cleaning without getting my grundies in a freckle.

A quick tip for seeing if it's leaking after the fix. I use this in plumbing, or any situation where you need to find the smallest bit of fluid. Use a DRY piece of white toilet paper to rub the item. If there is the slightest bit of fluid, it will show up easily. Great video through!

Plumber friend of mine uses blue shop towels (paper), very easy to see as the blue towel will darken when wet

Just watched this and thought to myself, I could do that with a feelers guage, done it with a .18mm guage, made sure I kept the deep end further forward at all times, went round gently 3 times in each direction, it was pissing out before, and now is perfect!!! Kawasaki klr650c. Thanks for the tip, never had any idea about repairing a fork seal before today!

Going to do my 2014 FZ1 this Saturday. I wanted to watch someone besides the inventors do it to see how it works. Thanks for posting this -- I'm pretty excited now that this will work. My bike is much newer and leaks much less than the one you did and yours worked great. (I bought the sealmate tool. I know I could make one, but it is such a cool idea and is going to save me a BUNCH of aggravation changing seals so I am happy to send the inventors a couple bucks.)

That's excellent! I bought one of those seal savers last year to fix a leak in my XR250R, a bike I bought used to play around off-road with and have some fun fixing up, and man it had a lot of gunk in it. I had to do the whole process about ten times, but then it stopped leaking, and hasn't leaked since. That is a great product and a great easy fix for sure!
@justbanter87276 жыл бұрын
wow this actually worked, saved my son a small fortune on garage bills (got some stupid quotes!) I was a bit reluctant at first especially as it is after just a thin piece of plastic and they're asking a few bucks for it! - I've seen KZbin vlogs of folk making their own which is a route I almost took but in retrospect I'm glad a bought one as cutting a plastic template might well leave some sharp edges?! and ya don't want to be using that when sticking something between a rubber gasket/seal & a steel fork (the tolerences are pretty unforgiving)

A bit of 35mm film negative will work as well. Ask Grandpa for some negatives. The film canisters are good to keep a bit of grease in or spare bulbs for the road.

does this work on inverted sportbike seals? namely a 2005 CBR600rr? mine are leaking fml...i just bought the bike and bugger me i didn't think to check the fork seals! not a huge deal as they're only about $250(CAD) to get fixed at a shop but still a pissoff! thanks!

If this does really work , I wonder how many shady shops bring in bikes to install new seals and then use it instead and then charge the owners full price for parts & labor . I bet it happens a lot if this thing actually works . If it does work , it would pay off for all owners to have one . Eventually when the seals actually do wear out and the tool no longer helps , then have the repair done or do it yourself if mechanically skilled to do it . A person could probably make a working one out of milk jug plastic I bet . It's a pretty simple thing . Good Video , Thanks

I got a Blue one. I saw a video with an Orange one. Is there any difference between a Red, Orange or Blue one? If No than why do they make them in 3 colors? Has anyone put some leak sealant additive in their fork to prevent oil leakage? Hey if the additive prevents engine oil leaks why wouldn't it work on fork leaks?
@MotoMirius7 жыл бұрын
Whilst you've got those forks out I'm assuming you are changing the oil? I'd bet it's well overdue for changing and given that one's clearly been leaking for a while it's probably a little bit low in that leg.

if you spot misting leaks remove forks roll them on flat surface make sure they are not bent then inspect for scoring scratches pit remove dust seal and seals hang the forks upside down leave for a bit grab a coffee then add the correct amount of oil fit seals replace forks you can do just the leaking fork if the oils been changed recently. you have already done the hardest part getting the fork out

@markgiles85276 жыл бұрын
Ended up using a plastic milk bottle. It is rather soft but still managed to get in up and in behind the seal. I ended up doing the other seal as well. Strange thing was I found the one not leaking to be the easier seal to get up in behind and it leaked more than the leaky one when I moved the scrapper all the way around. Guessing the leaking one is just about out of oil. :O Still, a neat little tool. Great idea. Worked great.

G'day Mate, what about giving the poor dog some flea powder at the same time, maybe even try the Seal Mate on your little mate - good video though digger!!!!! Oh, by the way viewers do NOT use 35mm film as many people recommend because a small piece may chip off and visit your oil - then you are in deep doo-doo's. Aussie sites have them for less than $10 delivered free, if you must make one then use the side of ordinary plastic milk carton (brand does not matter - but go for Aussie made anyway hehe).!
