Back in the late 60s and early 70s when I was racing MX, we'd do the same thing, using a little piece of camera film. We also shoot the whole area with brake cleaner before and after we cleaned them, to keep from re-introducing grit when cleaning the seals. I use this tool (Seal Mate) to this day for both my street bikes and my trail bikes. I find that it works 99% of the time. Good product.

Had one fork seal leaking badly, the other just a bit. $300 for new fork seals, went on line, ran across this video, ordered 3 seal mate tools, gave 2 to friends, used the other. Amazing results - over 300 miles now and not a drop has leaked. Both forks clean and shiny. Do yourself a favor, get one of these, even if you don't need it now - you will and you'll be glad you saw this video.

Amazing! It really works! I used this simply plastic tool on the leaking forks of my 2002 Yamaha R1 a few days ago. The leaks are no longer there even after some test drives on the road for a bit. Saved me a lot of money and time from not having to replace the seals. The genius that invented this tool deserves a Nobel Prize.

I used the Seal Mate about 2+ weeks ago on my 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom. My bike has Top Dampening Shocks instead of the typical Bottom Dampening ones. I have put about 1000 Miles on my bike since using the Seal Mate Tool and I have NOT seen any signs of seal leakage or oil smears!!! I am ecstatic and Extremely impressed how well this worked and How EASY the tool is to use. Seal Mate saved me at least $250 parts & labor at my local shop!!! I purchased a Seal Mate a few weeks ago to fix a leaking fork seal on my 2006 Yamaha WR450F...I just purchased the motorcycle and noticed the leak after I got home. It was a surprise to me what I found or what the Seal Mate pulled out of the fork seal...a piece of film negative !! People say that film negative works, but evidently not all the time. After a few passes around the seal with the Seal Mate and the removal of additional debris, the seal works perfectly. Thank you very much for a great, inexpensive product...I am a believer

From my experience if you end up with just a bit of residue on the forks it's a dirty seal, it's when you see actual beads of oil dripping down that the seal itself needs replacing.

I received your product and went out to try it out. I tell ya, what a fantastic product!!! I own a customized 2010 Honda Sabre. I went outside, pried the dust seal up and then used the sealmate as per the video. I went ahead and ran it twice, cleaned up the area and pushed the seal back down. I pushed the handlebars up and down several times and then wiped the fork. Second time pushing the handlebars up and down, there was virtually nothing on the fork. Thanks to your sealmate, I save $160 in labor for replacing seals not to mention the price of the seal kit to begin with. One happy veteran rider right here. Now I can go ride this weekend!!! I bought a used 2005 Kawasaki Ninja 250 and had about 4000+ miles on it, I had to get it inspected and the seals had an oil leak. I went to the dealership and they told me I should have them replaced (about $300+ with labor). I like to do all my repairs myself and replacing my forks was the last option. Many years ago when I was 20yo, a seal on my Sportster started leaking. I replaced it myself and omigod, what a PITA. Well, a week ago a seal on my Versys started leaking. I checked the shop manual and found the inverted forks were going to be an even bigger PITA than the Sportster. Then I checked the Versys forums, and found someone talking about this. I was skeptical as hell, but figured it was a small gamble to possibly avoid a huge amount of work. So it arrived, and I tried it. I dug out a tiny bit of what looked like beige putty. To my astonishment, that fixed the leak. THANK YOU!

+ Eliazer Rodrigues. Your fork tubes could have been damaged from small rocks and/or sand on the road. I live in AZ where there are very dusty/sandy road conditions. I had this same problem and realized that my fork tubes had actually been sand blasted. Look to see if they are pitted, or if the chrome is starting to wear thin or has even worn off. You can replace the forks tibes, or even have them rechromed. Whichever is more cost effective. You might even first try XXXX steel wool, and them polish them. This is more than likely the problem. Unless of coarse the person that installed your new seals did so incorrectly and they are leaking as a direct result of this. In any case, I hope this information is of some particular use to you,

My bike is a 35 year old Honda 650 Nighthawk. I REALLY didn't think it would work on (maybe) 35 year old fork seals. But I thought, it's so expensive to replace the seals, what's another $6 if it might work? Well--by golly, it seems to have done the job! A test ride will tell. Took the tool around twice on the fork seals, and maybe 6-8 times around on the dust seals. They were horrible. A little tip: A knife blade is a much better tool for prying up dust seals than a screwdriver. The screwdriver is really good for getting into the area above the fork seal. Cover the tip with a couple thicknesses of clean rag and have at it. I used spray WD-40 to really flush out the dirt, then cleanup with the cloth covered screwdriver. Once it's really clean (take your time and do it right), then use the tool.

Bought the Seal Mate near the end of the 2018 riding season when the 1200S developed a left fork oil leak.... sure, could have made a cheaper similar tool, but hey, for a few bucks I have the real McCoy. Why not give a few bucks to the Genius behind the tool. I followed the directions from this video and after compressing the forks a few times... fork oil was still seeping out. Wiped the stanchion down and went for a ride... got back to the homestead and the stanchion was wet again... a tad disappointing. As it was time to put her away for the winter, I wiped the stanchion down once more and put her to bed... Spring 2019... brought the 1200s out of storage. She fired right up as usual. Went for a ride... gave the forks a good work out and to my delight, the left stanchion was bone dry. Seal Mate did the trick... Thanks Jeff... 🙂👍

@phifedig34 Sorry it took so long to respond but, if you lost a decent amount of oil you will want to make sure oil is up to the suggest manufactures level. You can find that in the user manuals. The design on Seal Mate is specifically designed so that it pulls the debris out but in the case minor debris gets into the fork it is nothing to worry about.

Is it important that the graphics are pointing out? The edge is sharpened away from that side. I am thinking that it will prevent the tool from cutting the seal lip, but on the other hand doing it with the graphics in could help removing debris from the little cavity between the outer and inner lip within the oil seal.

How do i know if I lost to much oil? like what if there has been to much lost oil?
@Doctoberfest
@Doctoberfest 7 жыл бұрын
Ryan Fonseca you'll have to open your forks to see how much fluid you lost anyway might as well replace the seals. I'd recommend doing this for some extremely light coating on the forks

This will probably work on a newer bike with fork seal rubber that hasn't worn out yet. But over time rubber seals do lose their ability to seal properly from the rubber getting stiff and just plain wearing out. This is a high friction area and believe it or not, fork seals are a normal replacement part.

I saw the video and watched some reviews of the seal mate and was inpressed . I bought the seal mate tool and was disappointed that I could not get the seal mate to go inbetween the seal and the tube. The plastic just distorted and wrinkled instead of entering the seal . I have an 87 FXRS with never leak seals and maybe they are stiffer than normal seals . For me the seal mate was a total failure the plastic was too fragile .

It looks like it can be a great product. However, i would like you to do a clip cleaning very dirty (chrome) tubes so that we can see how it went from gritty leaking tubes to clean tubes with no residue. ?

both my fork seals are leaking, im wondering if they are damaged. They randomly started leaking after i had an accident when they were fully compressed at the front of the bike. im not sure if dirt was shoved up inside them or if the pressure just blew the seals. im thinking about ordering my fork tool tonight !
