Dusty Shelf Collectables

Күн бұрын

I picked this up a couple of weeks back at a railway exhibition found in the bottom of a scrap box.
It doesn't run and is badly damaged at one end so in need some of some TLC, well I can not make it worse.
Will it Run again? - Spoiler of course, but I did mess up the paint.

As my neighbour often says about my bodged DIY attempts - "a blind man on a galloping horse wouldn't notice"😂. In honesty, I don't think you made a bad job and it is a long way from being a disaster. Plus, you learned loads and next time you'll do even better I'm sure. Meanwhile, it was a pleasure to watch someone with greater skills than my own, exercise them. Thanks Matt!

Kind comments, my son refers to my projects as 10 footers as in they look ok from 10 feet away, but i enjoy doing them and at the end of the day this was rescued from a scrap bin, and as you say I learnt a lot . However I'm working on a princess Elizabeth at the moment - cost me £1 until I needed to get another body! yes it did go a little wrong. Thanks again for you continued support. Matt

Women have magic fingers for this type of intricate assembly. Men stand no chance.

I was close to call my wife, she can also see better than we. How this was assembled efficiently in production is a mystery. Thanks for watching

You did a good job bringing this loco back to life. I love to do this sort of thing myself. Only recently I came across a box of old Triang Transcontinental rolling stock that I'd forgotten I'd got tucked away and I'm now in the process of building two American trains. My layout is actually a UK based layout but what the heck! I'm going to run these two trains on it once in a while. Thanks for a good video.

Interesting. An old Tri-ang model. To get mine going I oiled the bearing pads and drive worms and made sure that everything was free and moving smoothly. After a few tests she was back running. Stripping these old motors down completely is not always necessary. Glad yours is running now too. They were built for the Code 125 Series 3 and Supe 4 track so don't run too well on more recent code 100 track. Good work getting yours running. Mon from Monsville Railways

Thanks mon, there was a point where I did regret a full strip down of the motor!

Thanks John, The hobby is becoming expensive but doesn't have to there are still £1 locos out there that just need some TLC, doesn't have to be perfect or right, just enjoyable . Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

One of my favourite Triang toy trains. Based on an Australian co-co diesel. I really enjoyed your work on this one. It’s fun bringing old toys back into life as much as enjoying the latest high detailed offering.

Tr-ang had a sizeable market in AustraliA, so this was a model of a Victorian Railways double-cab B class GM diesel electric. It sold well, because the decoration and nose wings was pure VR. Well done restoration Matt.

Hi Matt. You certainly like a challenge matey. TBH, if that was me, I wouldn't have bothered purchasing her as I don't think I have the patience so, well done you! For some reason, when your video is speeded up and we cannot understand what you are saying, the transcript does not show what is being said e.g. 7mins 21secs. Cheers, Paul. 🤘❤

If it was something important or profound (which doesn't happen often) I would have included it, probably me just mumbling, I will make sure to cut in the future, it must irritating to think something was missed, thanks again.

Cheers not a good as I hoped but not bad for a £1, having a few of them on the layout must look good, a very distinctive loco. Anyway thanks for watching and sharing .

I think you have done a really good job and it doesn't matter about perfection - after all what is actually perfect on the real railway? What is the name of that fill you used? Cheers Malcolm

Hi Malcolm, apologies for the delayed response, It called Plasto by Revell, works well but best to build up in thin layers, I've not had great success if I filled a deep feature in one go.
