Here is some info that might help. This is Anette the second singer. Tarja(Tarya) was the original singer. Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu. Then there is Troy Donockley who is a multi-instrulmentalist and does vocals. Jukka is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai became the drummer and as of now is a permanent member. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. the 2nd one was Anette Olzon (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from the Netherlands.( power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit live ( Floor). Enjoyed your reaction guys, and your subsequent discussions about it. You will have already read that this was with Anette Olzon, their Swedish second singer. She was replaced by Floor Janssen (Yanssen) in less than ideal circumstances during their World tour in 2012 (of which the Wacken concert was recorded halfway through). Floor was hired officially along with English multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley in 2013 and remain to this day. Tuomas Holopainen has said that when Floor decides to leave, he will retire the band. Witness the interplay live onstage between Floor and Marco Hietala (bass) and THEN say that there is no difference between a studio recording and a live performance! This song is not Tarja (Taryah), This is the 2nd singer, Annette Olzen. She is Swedish. This is a fantasy song with Marco and Annette taking the part of the malevolent river spirits luring children to their death in the torrent of the river. The mills grind slow may represent a time when rivers were powering flour mils and lumber mills. Can you imagine being pulled into a water wheel and being broken and battered. Do come across the river is the river spirit tempting you to try to cross so they can pull you down to your watery death. Listen to this song with Floor live at Wacken 2013. You will hear a major difference on the lines "Beautifully shy as you are" - "Never lose your heart and do come across". Floor sings it so beautifully. Drummer is Jukka (Yukka). The song "Poet and the Pendulum" is a mock suicide of Tuomas, because he felt the guilt and ridicule of the fans for sacking Tarja. It is much deeper than you are thinking.

"Beauty OF the Beast", with original singer Tarja. It's a song they only played occasionally on the tour for the album, but it's probably the best song from that era. There are a couple lesser quality live versions too.

If you want a studio, do their newest song Noise official video! Also Rest calm from Imaginarium is one of my favorites, so maybe check that one out too. This was one of the first songs to be written for Imaginaerum and was described by keyboardist and composer-in-chief, Tuomas Holopainen, as, "a duel between the Devil and Mother Gaia." (Mother Gaia is the goddess who the ancients believed represented Earth). He explained to Metal Hammer magazine: "Since this is a dramatic album about the celebration of life and existence, you need the dark side as well. I love the dark side and I love all kinds of evil stuff, so we needed a few songs to describe those. 'Ghost River' and 'Rest Calm' are the two songs that are talking about the dark side of life."

You guys should listen to their track Master Passion Greed since that track was never played live and never will be. It was very emotional song for the male band members targeted to certain someone (I am not getting into the details because its suck, you can dig it if you want to) and the current vocal at the time (this vocalist-Anette Olzon) didn't get any part on this track since she wasn't part of the whole story. Marco the bassist doing the lead vocal and the rest of the band sing along the chorus part. It is rather an interesting track nevertheless, and it is heavy.

This is one of those Tuomas songs where one interpretation may be just as good as another. Marko's spooky vocals are like a devil on the shoulder filling the mind with doubt and dread. While Anette's vocals speak a more hopeful, positive message. As for why original singer, Tarja ("Tar-yah") was let go, the band fired her with an "open letter" giving THEIR side of things. Yes, really. It was the work the artist created, as originally intended. No reason to ignore it. God, the KZbin generation... Most probably only watch live videos of Nightwish on YT and never spend a cent on their music.

Some good studio songs from Nightwish worth a reaction: - Deep Silent Complete (Tarja) - Sagan (Floor) - Wish I Had An Angel (Tarja). Use the video from the Nightwish channel, not from Roadrunner Records! - Meadows of Heaven (Anette) - Turn Loose The Mermaids (Anette) - Dead Boys Poem (Tarja) - Sleeping Sun (Tarja) - Slow Love Slow (Anette) P.S. Not much from Floor so far because they botched the recording of Endless Forms Most Beautiful a bit, the live versions available from Wembley and Tampere are much better. Maybe Human :||: Nature will do better in that regard.

Every album from their first to Imaginaerum sounds good. Endless forms most beautiful had too much stuff on tracks for my taste. Did not like sound work on that one. How I feel may change, if I upgrade my system at home. But until then? Meh. Good songs. But too much I can´t hear.
