Matt Cameron's skills + Cornell's voice + a Sabbath fetish = the best band of the early 90's.

As a man of both science and art, I like to blur the lines and see if I can reach absolute conclusions about art. Perhaps, it may seem silly, but I enjoy the pursuit. In regards to LZ, I could list long reasons, or simply state that they do just about everything better than other bands. There are a few exceptions here and there, that dim the lights a bit, but as a /whole/... there is no comparison in my eyes. I would be thrilled to hear of one, however.

The joy is always in the pursuit, which is what will keep you always in joy, because it's pretty much impossible to reach an absolute conclusion on the overall quality of art, due to our subjective nature (Would you argue Zeppelin were the greatest if you didn't like them? Would you have downplayed the extent they ripped people off early on?) and how all standards of art are founded on that nature. Working within the realm of relativity is as much as we could do, and even that's an undertaking.

Only just now, a little bit. It's not big thing, though. Like I said, it's all opinion. I mean, we sit here and have a more objective approach to this discussion of "greatest bands", depending on what your definition of "great" is, but it all comes down to opinion, even if it's based more on a critical outlook than on personal tastes.
@BareBandSubscription11 жыл бұрын
Sure. Of course, it is still a matter of opinion.

A different time indeed. No more Back Stage shows, no more at the main theater where this was filmed. No more or rarely eastside Tav shows, Nothing at any Grange Halls anymore. Too bad. It was a lot of fun in the day. Olympia is a much different scene than 20 years ago, Seattle too for that matter.

It is true that many of Led Zeppelin's earlier songs are based on pre-existent works. However, it is obvious that Led Zeppelin's material is very well-written and all covers are truly far-removed from the originals. In the blues game, redoing songs is considered the norm; same with jazz and big band, too. I do not think that a song is invalid or insignificant simply because it is technically a cover-song.

Yes, Jimmy Page ripped people off. It takes nothing away from the glory of Led Zeppelin, though. Music for music-sake, it is still where it's at.

They took crappy rough formatted songs and made them into hits imo.

Except said earlier songs were straight covers credited to the band as original works, largely unchanged. Hey, man, I like Zeppelin, but they flat-out ripped some people off early on.
@BlackAcidDevilSlays12 жыл бұрын
indeed. i consider them the led zeppelin of my generation.
@yesfan15711 жыл бұрын
Yes, but I enjoy the idea that Led Zeppelin is the best band ever; and I actually believe it, to a degree. Though, to desire such a label is indicative of my elitist nature. I'm sure it comes through just a little bit...

Led Zeppelin wins, sorry. Soundgarden is truly legendary, however.
