Thanks for another great video, Jason! ✨👍🏻 This time my restore was not working, likely because I was upgrading/skipping few firmware revisions, but it was not hard to get it back to my favorite settings - at least it useful exercise to know, what I like to change from the defaults...

Thanks Jason. Please tell me if I need to update my Canon RF 70-200mm F2.8 lens firmware to?
@PointsInFocus2 ай бұрын
Off the top of my head, the last firmware update for that lens was a couple of years ago, so if yours is older than that and you haven't updated it you might want to check.

I definitely appreciate your R5C videos. I missed something here. Am I the only one? Where do you get the firmware file from? The Canon website? Would you mind sharing a link? Canon websites are all over the map and weird. I can never find anything on them. Do you mind sharing the link to where to get the newest firmware file from please?
@PointsInFocus15 күн бұрын
Yes, you get the firmware files from Canon's website. In general, you'll find them on the support page for the camera model in question, generally in the "Software and Driver" section. For the R5C in the USA, it's the following page: www.usa.canon.com/support/p/eos-r5-c#idReference%3Dsoftware-drivers. The firmware files should be the same regardless of which Canon site you download them from, but I think Canon recommends downloading them from your regional Canon site. Hope that helps.

Oh well, I should have known this earlier before I went to update my firmware. I had to reset everything manually.

Thanks for your information. My R5C has version 1.0.3.1. I followed your instructions on my camera [System Settings>Firmaware], but my screen does not allow updating or giving options. Is there another way to update?
@PointsInFocus5 ай бұрын
When you get to the firmware screen under system settings, you need to select the camera line to update the camera's firmware.
@FusionMediArts5 ай бұрын
@@PointsInFocus That's precisely what I did. The camera line is more transparent, and it is readable, but it is not a functional option. Thank you
@PointsInFocus5 ай бұрын
Couple of stupid questions then... Mostly so we're both on the same page. 1) You are using an SD Card for the firmware update, correct? The camera will not even look at the CF Express card for the update file. 2) Verify that you've put the VSD11.FIR file in the root/top most directory of the SD card you're using, and that it's the only .FIR file on the card. If both of those are true, you might want to try deleting and re-downloading the firmware form Canon. It's highly unlikely, but there's a small chance that the download could have been corrupted and the camera isn't seeing it as a valid firmware file. If all of that fails, your last recourse would be to send it to Canon. Their service centers can update the firmware one way or another.

Can you use a PD ac cord while doing the firmware update?
@PointsInFocus3 ай бұрын
Off hand, I'm not 100% sure. I want to say you can, and that I have, but firmware updates are far enough apart that I don't really remember exactly what I've done. That said, I'd prefer a USB-PD battery over a AC adapter, just to protect against the power going on in the middle of the update.

@PointsInFocus understood I have both, thanx for the great videos

Planning to update firmware tomorrow. Has anyone here hear of, or experienced any bugs from this latest firmware? Thanks!

I haven't had issues personally, and I haven't seen any widespread reports of problems either. So I'd say you're good to go.

Hi guys is it normal my canon eos r5c’s fan always on eventhough in standby mode ?
@PointsInFocus2 ай бұрын
If by standby mode, you're referring to when you're in video mode but not recording. Then yes, by default the fan will stay on all the time even when you're not recording. Keep in mind that the cinema EOS firmware doesn't assume that camera will only be used to record to a card - you may be recording to an external recorder or be using it as part of a broadcast setup sending it's feed back to a editing bay. As a result, the OS doesn't have a low-res low-power standby mode like the consumer cameras do. This is a big part of why the R5C drains batteries so fast (since it's effectively always operating as if it was recording). That said, you can adjust the fan settings some. The settings for it are found on the System Setup 8 menu page at the top. Though there is no off setting, as the fan is a necessary part of maintaining thermal stability.
