I’m using the same thing for Bluetooth in my A4. And I hate when it doesn’t work, drives me nuts because it’s usually only when I want to go on a longer drive. Great vid R8 looks nice

It works 100x better. That’s all that matters to me. Can’t believe a car like this would come stock with such a crappy infotainment system. R8 owners (except for me) will say you don’t need a radio because the car to is be driven and you can hear the exhaust and engine. Hahahahhaa. I would say “what exhaust”

I installed the same carplay system on my 2011 r8 v10. I love the system over the MMI. However, now my key doesn't seem to automatically unlock my driver's side door. It makes a noise but doesn't unlock. Did you have that problem? Also, do the door lights come in a pair or just the driver's side? Great video.

I don’t have keyless entry. I press unlock on my key fob , it unlocks. Doors lights always come in pairs.

There's apple carplay and android auto. Whatever apps that works there, will work on the screen. I don't use Waze but im pretty sure it works through apply car play.

The only thing that makes me sad about these upgrades is that they don't put much effort into the design. It ends up looking somewhat simplistic, lacking the quality it should have. I appreciate the functionality, but the poor design aspect leaves much to be desired. It would be interesting for them to hire a talented designer to create a more visually appealing interface. There are so many talented Indian and Chinese artists who offer their services at a reasonable price. But what can you do, right?

I would have to disagree. I don’t think it’s a poor design. I think It’s just different. Maybe it’s not up to your standards or doesn’t match all the upgraded screens out there but It’s still a massive upgrade over the stock junk screen. I’ll take what I can get especially when it has Apple CarPlay. Plus sometimes having all the bells and whistles design isn’t worth it. Makes it harder to navigate around. Example, a hurucan. I drove that around and couldn’t figure out the radio to save my life. Looks amazing but It was way over engineered. And most people will agree with me. I rather have it as simple as possible so I can easily play get to my music and drive. Done. I don’t need it to look all pretty since I’m the only one in my car most of the time.

You can use a nail file(metal) and it works just like the audi radio keys. Those keys are way overpriced but if you have a r8 probably doesn't matter lol but I guess for the average person who wants to remove the radio in a pinch nail file it is. Love the car.

It doesn’t work for my r8 or A4. The special keys has a specific groove cut in to release the radio. I know cause I even tried other “Audi” keys that were close to the right curve but still it couldn’t get the radio out compared the the real Audi Keys I bought. A nail filer just slides in and out. It does nothing.

They have the carbon version like in my video. But if you want a standard plastic black version, they have that too but you’ll need to email them directly to request it. And they all come with CarPlay, including mine in the video. Mine still works really well after all these years.

Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately, I don’t really work with headlight suppliers outside of the c-class. I’m not sure where you would look for a GL.

I'll for sure be checking out for similar upgrade for my AMG, the stereo interface is lame. Stupid Question, how did you get by not using the grey 32 pin amp connector? - Mk2 TTS/RS have the same amp connector in the back and if they aren't connected to anything there is no audio on any speakers - any info would help as I've got a 2013 TTS i bought a similar unit for with almost the same hookups as your unit and have no audio because of this...

Just pull it out by using a plastic pry tool to lift it out a tad before you pull it out.

Hi man great video. I just bought one for my R8 through DMP. Is it difficult to run the GPS wire from the unit to the divers side upper windshield. Any tips on how to remove the A pillar? Thanks

I just tucked it. It’s not hard. The cable is short so you gotta make sure you plan out the path you plan to route it. I notice I use CarPlay all the time so I just use my Apple Maps running gps from my phone.

I have a loose brown wire that says reverse. I’m wondering it it broke off from a connection or it’s suppose to stay loose. My backup camera isn’t working with the new unit so it’s making me wander about it. Also when I move the unit around it loses power for some reason.

Don’t know. Did you buy it from DMP? If not, it’s not the same radio. These radios have different components inside. If you bought from DMP, then contact them and they’ll help you fix the issues.

Cause the stock gps only works with the stock radio. It’s not designed to work with an aftermarket kit.

Yes, for my radio. You need to reach out to whoever you bought the radio from for their code for your radio. If it was DMP car design, then reach out to them and they’ll take care of you. But if you bought it online through someone else…you gotta hunt them down for the code. The codes aren’t the same for every reseller of these screens.

For mine, it just pulls right out. I pry up on the sides with a plastic trim tool, grab the edges with my fingers and pull straight out.
