He answered that question on the Vieri podcast, and he himself felt that his first season at Inter was better because Serie A was much better defensively than La Liga, and you can go and watch him play in Serie A, and as soon as he got the ball, a group of defenders kicked him in the leg, and in the semi-final of the 1998 World Cup, he was kicked by the Dutch defenders a lot of times, but his character on the pitch was great, No matter how hurt he was, he didn't lose his temper, he earned the respect of all his opponents, you know

Three different but overlapping generations make for a great dynamic. Alan Shearer is the most pleasant surprise on KZbin. Expected him to be rigid but he's an absolute delight in this environment. They genuinely all are.

I completely agree. Although I have a deep admiration for english football, I am not english; I am spanish, hailing from Barcelona, for instance (warm regards to our legend Gary Lineker, by the way). The thing is, I wasn't acquainted with Shearer's personality beyond the pitch. Naturally, I held him in high regard as a player, but it's been a pleasure to observe his rather easy-going, if not somewhat laid-back, demeanor. I found it quite appealing. I also thoroughly enjoy Micah. The guy is an absolute delight and can light up a room with his presence. In summary, I love this podcast 🙌

R9 is by far the best player I've ever seen, the things he was doing were unthinkable at the time. He had every single attribute of a striker to the highest level there was. The fact he gets included in best player of all time debates despite having his 3 and half year practically career ending injury shows truly what a gift he was to football and his mentality to come back and do what he did in 2002. Blessed to have been able to witness him

@@lelethumnisi4478 None of them have, Ronaldo's become a myth, like Maradona 'single handedly' winning Argentina the 1986 World Cup. He was a phenomenal footballer, but like Gary pointed out, he scored a lot of poachers goals too. If you look at a 10 year gap either side of Ronaldo's peak, so between 1986 - 2006, you had Romario, Zidane, Van Basten, Platini and Maradona, then Henry and Ronaldinho - Ronaldo wasn't a clear cut above all of them, he was on course to be, no one will ever truely know though. Messi on the other hand legitimately was, was doing things by the time he was 21/22 we'd never seen before. Maradona-esque number 10 with Gerd Muller's scoring prowess, absolute freak.

Big up guys 💥 Another fantastic episode 🙂 The Scottish accent was hilarious 😆 Nice to hear you guys talk about R9 🔥 Fun fact - I use to have a blogspot/forum about 13 yrs ago where I use to highlight different players each week from legends to unappreciated players from all around the world & I named it Prime R9. It was a joke/play on the kids at the time, when they started to use their favourite players names on their display names/usernames so I named the site & my username Prime R9 a nod to my favourite player from my younger years. So now when people say Prime "insert players name" that comes from me. Over the years my slang has caught on 😉 no one really says "in his prime" it's always "prime" then the players name.

Ronaldo Phenomenon is the greatest attacking player I've ever seen. There's no question 'R9' is far better than CR7, which sounds crazy, and Christiano of course isn't simply a striker, and I'd regard him as the best wide player in his position, but Brazilian Ronaldo is truly the greatest from the 90's to today (at his peak). He played like a computer game on amateur mode; strength, speed, agility, touch, dribbling, and even vision were all perfect. The way he thought so quickly to get out of positional problems, or tackles was just electrifying. People talk about his injuries, but I think it's almost as though a human body containing his ability and speed could never have maintained it for more than 5 years. Lightning.

You're comparing Serie A in the 90s, a league where Shevchenko, Zamorano, Trezeguet, Crespo, Batistuta, Inzaghi, Del Piero (list is endless) never got anywhere near a goal a game. The league as a whole was notoriously defensive, that's without mentioning the colossal defenders throughout the league. Were you alive in the 90s? @mohamedkhider6998 It's not nostalgia. For what it's worth I think that Suarez should have won a Balon D'Or when he was at Barca. R9 is the greatest striker of all.time in terms of ability. In terms of his gifts. He was bigger, stronger, faster, a better dribbler, more skillfull, better balance, finisher...th3 list goes on. It's why the players who played against and with him all say the same thing - he was like an alien. He was a different species. NO ONE comes close terms of ability as a centre forward. Van Basten runs him close, but it's R9 all day, every day. And if we were talking about physique then your crush, Cristiano, would win. But we're not. We're talking ability. An injury ravaged R9 scored the goals that won a World Cup. Went on to be utterly brilliant while overweight, with no knees at Madrid. It's not nostalgia. It's a statement of fact. Prime R9 was Messi combined with Cristiano. Lol those who played with and against him know. You? You do not.

Micah needs to start commentating during games. R9 shone in a Brazilian team with Ronaldinho (Ballon d'Or winner), Kaka (Ballon d'Or winner), Rivaldo (Ballan d'Or winner), Carlos (Madrid GOAT), and Cafu. For context, R9 played 98 times for Brazil with knee injuries throughout his career, which resulted in multiple clubs. He also was diagnosed with a thyroid condition which resulted in weight gain. Had he been playing in the modern game today, he would average 40-50 goals per season when you look at Haaland and Mbappe and what they are doing with a fraction of his talent.

It’s so unfortunate we never really saw R9 at his best because of injuries. He’s still the best combination of strength, speed and skill I’ve ever seen in a player.

How is R9's English? Would love to see him on the podcast to learn how he views his career and what he achieved. If his English isn't great, maybe he could speak in Spanish and Gary could translate for us?

I had a look. Couldn't find the one with him speaking Portugese but found this documentary Gary did in Brazil which R9 spoke in English (pretty well to be fair). It was on football in Brazil though so would love to hear a more personal interview about his career kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKbYfKBtgcytkLMsi=58rIzJ1NRRssiI2j

I was a young boy when I watched him before his injuries. Had absolutely everything. The goal against Valencia when they formed a wall against him and he just broke through the defenders like they weren’t there and scored Luis Aragones was the manager at that time and just said to his staff, what can you do to stop him?

What do you think is the best country team in the past other than the golden generation that didn’t win a World Cup or euros?? Watch every second of every video love it keep it up lads

I kinda think the English golden generation is a bit reflected glory from the premier league, but that Portgual side that lost to Greece in 2004 has to be one.

What’s interesting is the R9 most people know is the post-injury one and even them he was deemed an all time great. Most don’t know the R9 in the mid to late 90s

He was probably the best player of all time before he was 18. His talent was ridiculous. At times, it looked unfair for him to be allowed to play.

Lots of players have missed out through fighting injuries. Some are almost forgotten. I heard Marco van Basten had an injury struggle career. He could’ve been one of the greats of all time. Obviously. Paul Gascoine had struggles. After the FA Cup injury, he was fighting for fitness. Another player, I think two of the panel have actually played with . David Hirst, Hirsty had so much promise. And Alan Shearer is unlucky cause they was both coming up together. And there was talk of it being the England partnership for years to come. He was part of this trio with John Sheridan and Carlton Palmer which just seemed to work, and the 3 enjoyed a lot of success. However, when Chris Waddle joined the big 3 it was the beginning of Hirst struggles. There was a glimpse of the 4. But I’m gonna say one player that didn’t have an injury affected courier and never gets respect. And that’s Lee Chapman. Lee Chapman for me is the greatest England forward that never played for England. And. England managers refusal to pick him has cost him being one of the goals… I’ve never understood why.

Ronaldo is the best player I’ve seen, definitely. Cristiano is great and achieved far more at club level but club football changed so much in that time. It’s such a small amount of clubs that can win things now, 20 years ago clubs were far closer in ability as money gap wasn’t so vast.

Let me tell you if he had any sort of work ethic before he became overweight and his knees exploded, there wouldn't be no discussion about the best ever. He was it! But at the same time, CR7 and Messi deserve all the praise they can get, more then 15 years at the top is unprecedented, and I can't imagine the amount of sacrifice that goes behind it. R9 was gifted in many ways. If he had stayed as a Futsal player he would had been the best ever Futsal player, his technique was second to none, he did these complicated feints at high speed, that most would twist their ankles trying them standing still. And most times you would only catch them in the replay. That in itself was magic, but he had an even bigger gift, his power and acceleration. There hasn't been anyone like that ever since, and I doubt there ever will be again. Ever after he was obese in the last year of his career he was putting the ball infront of young defenders and getting there first. He couldnt run properly anymore, but that first meter, it was his. That can't be thought, a true gift.

Think about Drogba's power, the speed of Kyle Walker, a right foot like KDB, left foot like Messi, the aerial threat of CR7, the dribbling of Maradona and skill of 'Dinho. He could even take free kicks too. He had zero weaknesses.
@Marco81blues
@Marco81blues Жыл бұрын
@@mediacenterman8583 That's a lie 🤣, His dribblig was nothing like Maradonas, his weakness was actually the aerial ability, he was just not that type of player, but when someone scores more then 100 goals going past the goalkeeper, who gives a fuck right?
