Having lived on a farm near Londonderry during the early 80s, and near the flight path of both Caribou and Hercules aircraft, it was great to see and hear the almost daily drone of radial and turbo prop engines of these classic aircraft as they flew overhead. Those Halcyon days of seeing all twenty four Lockheed Hercules and a number of DH caribou aircraft lined up on the apron, with a sprinkling of USAF Starlifters as well, were a sight to behold and a great time to be alive. But like all the best things in life they dont last forever.

I'm a HAC old boy and remember it all well, it was part of life. Loved the Caribous. The Starlifters used to really scream, and occasionally a Galaxy..... Enormous.

Caribous and F111s were my favourites and Dakota's and Hercules. Wow we have had some brilliant planes historically. It's comforting to know we are beefing our ADF in this political climate and foreign powers maneuvering in the seas to our north. Very proud to be Aussie. 🤩

So in terms of RAAF aircraft, it is now the base for only 12 Hercules C-130? It sounds like selling off all that increasingly valuable land is a future option.

They forgot to mention the base hosted the Bicentennial Airshow in 1988.

Why is it that many of these lines no longer operate at Richmond? Richmond's B707 tankers were replaced by the A330 MRTT, but they based them at Amberley. You would have thought the C-17's, supplementing the C-130's in the logistics role, would be parked next to them at Richmond. Nup, they're at Amberley too. Surely the replacement for Richmond's iconic Caribous would carry on at Richmond? Nup, the C-27's are going to Amberley too. So all you have left is a couple of squadrons of C-130's and a big flat piece of prime real estate in the heart of Western Sydney's development sprawl. Hmmm. Hey Williamtown, want some Hercs?
@robman20953 жыл бұрын
Only one squadron of C-130J with 12 aircraft I think

As a child in the 60s , now and again, we had Caribous and Hercs fly over our house in Guildford, heading back to Richmond. Have no idea where they had been. Anybody know?

Having had an association with this base over several decades one found it totally unnecessary and somewhat infantile to mention aborigines at the start. Up until it became PC and woke aborigines contributed zero to RAAF Base Richmond
