It was 1956 'annual social' of CET, Jadavpur. Baba was to perform with Sarod as the last artist. It was only few hours to dawn and the majority of the audience were gone leaving few hundreds of us in attendance. Pt. Kanthejee Maharaj was on tabla with the young Ustad Ashish Khan (Baba's grandson) on tanpura. Baba and Panditjee were 70+ and most respected elders in Hindustani classical music world. Once the concert started and the play of 'alap' ended, both the elders got entangled with each other as if they were two different persons but with one soul, appreciating each other with loud words of adulation on completion of a long chakradar tehai or a beautiful piece of taan! To me, it was a rare and wonderful experience! When the Sarod playing ended after more than two hours and the loud cheers and clapping stopped, Baba pulled the mike and in typical East Bengal dialect, said somerhing like '' Amar ektu Bayla (violin) bajanor issa korse; ekta bayla paoa jaibo ki?'' (I wish to play a little with violin and can you get one for me?) Some boys rushed for a violin and little later, few of them were placed before Baba. Baba chose one out of them and then gave us a rare opportunity to listen to his violin playing in a wondrous mood for about another hour and a half. The clock struck 9-00 or thereabout when it all ended with us, the listeners, awestruck and performers, glistening with sweat but with smiles of utter satisfaction, next to having reached divinity.

Lol, He himself was just opposite of you! He was stern believer of God and spirituality, rather in an excellent idea of connecting to the god in all forms. He dedicatedly used take knowledge and faith both from Geeta and Quran. He was devotee of Ma Sarda( Devi Saraswati). Sarda temple over Vindhya in maihar was his regular destination and also there was a Saraswati mandap inside his house. Btw that place is truly heaven in earth, spirituality in its all form, music and nature ( deer forest and hills) used to coexist there.

Indeed, as Sri @@allstringsattached points out correctly, Baba Allauddin never tutored Pt. Hari Prasad... although, his daughter, Annapurna Devi was one of Hari Prasad's early Gurus. And yes, Baba Alladdin was one of the primary (though later) Gurus of Pannalal Ghosh, the legendary flutist, who made the bamboo fluite a 'classical' instrument, to begin with!

Sarod was his preferred concert instrument. Although occasionally he has performed with Violin and Sur Sringar as well. Just to add for posterity, Baba was accomplished as a concert tabla player. So much so that he would come up from the audience and fill in as a tabla player, when the designated tabla player fell short of accompanying the main artists. ( Ref - Jotinda's official Biography of Baba).
