The singer of this thumri mentioned Qadar Piya who had composed this thumri in Khamaj. Qadar Piya was the name that Wajid Ali Shah used in musical compositions. As we know, thumri came into being in the Lucknow of Wajid Ali Shah, who was the greatest patron of this genre of music, but also of Kathak dance. This is an excellent program series, but it will become even better if fewer Sanskrit words are used, and the more familiar Urdu/Hindi was employed which until recently had been the language of common discourse.

Not really. Kader-piya was the name of a courtier and musician at Wajid Ali Khan's court. Many of his compositions are taught and sung even today. Wajid Ali Shah's own pen-name was "Qaisar", and he used pseudonym "Akhtarpiya" for his numerous compositions. Under this pen name, this music-and-art-loving Nawab of Lucknow wrote over forty works - poems, prose and thumris. Diwan-i-Akhtar, Husn-i-Akhtar contain his ghazals. He is said to have composed many new ragas and named them Jogi, Juhi, and Shah-Pasand. You see him in the film Shataranj ke Khiladi made by Satyajit Ray. Wajid Ali's most famous or poignant composition is the Bhairavi song "Babul mora naihar chuto jaye...", which he is supposed to have composed while being exiled out of his kingdom by the British.
