Tansen's real name was Ramtanu Pande. Titles to Tansen - Tansen was the title given to him by Raja Vikramjit of Gwalior. Tansen was a court musician in the darbar of Raja Ramachandra of Bandavagarh (Rewa). When Akbar heard of his prodigious talent, he sent a 'farman' to the king asking for Tansen and made him one of the Navaratna's in his court. From 1562 till his death in 1589 , Tansen was in Akbar's court as one of the Navaratna Darbari.

This is a different version! It is said that Tansen kept searching for some accomplished person to sing Raah Megh Malhar to quench his thirst that resulted from singing Deepak Raag. He eventually met sisters Tana and Riri in Gujarat, who sang raag Megh Malhar to cure Tansen. Akbar insisted on bringing them to court to make them sing there. The sisters committed suicide. Even today there is a monument for the two sisters in Gujarat and an annual festival in their name is conducted.

Since so many years, while hearing film songs based on classical hindustani to ragas I.e tansen, baiju bawara, basanth bahar and also classical music sung by greats like Khan saheb abdul kareem Khan, pt. Digambar phalaskar, aamir Khan and bhimshen joshi of kirana gharana and other other music maestros of India. I had developed taste to hear and sing at home those cheesez. Now I have got cassets of those great singing maestros singing different ragas and kirtanas also.

This story is partly correct. Two sisters named Tana and Riri sung Raag Megh-Malhaar and saved Tansen. Not a daughter of Tansen. You can Google ''Tana Riri'' and will get full story. Still there is a smarak of both sisters in Gujarat Vadnagar. Due to Akbar's biggest mistake, both sisters select to die to save their culture and dignity.
