So proud and happy to see a classmate of mine turn up in my KZbin recommendations! Amazing work, Anuja! These videos are absolute gems of knowledge! I had some training in Hindustani music as a child but didn't delve deep enough into the art and that is one of my biggest regrets. These videos make me want to get back to that first love of mine! Also, thank you for making me realise today that Raag Yaman is my favourite raag! In Carnatic music, yaman is the equivalent of the ragam Kalyani as well as Yamuna Kalyani. By changing the rishabh to komal rishabh, it becomes Poorvikalyani and by changing the Dhaivatham also, it becomes Pantuvarali/Kamavardhani

Love Navjot Why not bro.... chose a flute of G scale or A scale from middle octave. don't put your fingers on any hole until you blow the flute to its purest sound. you may be playing flute for long but still a perfect blowing needs to be practiced before you play further.

So we have another beautiful exposition of my Kalyani, my Yaman... thank you, Anuja-ji. I've read requests from others for treatises from you on several other raags with your sensitive handking, but frankly if you continue with Yaman for a few more years it will be all right with me. I'm reminded of a quip by Lakshmi Shankar-ji, the legendary singer, in an interview I did for Sruti magazine with her. She said (referring to teaching methods of South and North Indian music) "My guruji taught us Yaman for almost a year, and being a Tamilian used to learning some 30 ragas in the same time in Karnatic shaili, I plucked courage to ask him "Guruji, can you start us on some other raag from the next class?" He thought for a couple of minutes and said "Let us continue with Yaman for some more time". No wonder she was so fantastic when she sang Yaman. Hearing you sing the raag, I feel you must have had the same kind of intensive grooming in this exquisite raag. God bless you.
