An outstanding song from the king of Ghazals, Talat Mehmood. This is from the film Ek Gaon Ki Kahani. The music is by Salil Choudhary and the lyricist is Shailendra. The music in this song uses the horsebeat very effectively. This kind of beat in film music was later used very nicely by OP Nayyar as well in some of his songs.
The film starred Talat Mehmood as the hero and Mala Sinha as the heroine. This was one of the few films where Talat acted as well as sang his own songs. He was quite a handsome personality. However, he subsequently decided to concentrate on his singing only. The tonal quality of his voice was very different from the other singers such as Mukesh, Rafi and Manna Dey. His songs look very easy to sing when you hear them. But, as I discovered, they become really challenging when you try to reproduce them since his voice was very smooth and soft and had a great tremor which is quite difficult to emulate.
Here is my humble attempt. I really enjoyed singing this great song. For your listening pleasure. Just click on the link below to listen. I would suggest that for greater enjoyment use your headphones to listen to music.
