Thank you Kaz for this really plain speaking review. I have two A4 sheets of analysis and prices of cagoules that I compiled in lockdown (oh dear, how sad!) and it must have been just before you posted this as it did not come up in my research! It was between Ladakh, Kangri and Firewall I see - as they all have stars at the side of them (I want a two way zip and a nice bright colour so I can be seen easily). Yesterday I was able to go to a Cotswold Outdoors shop and try on a Firewall - and although I am a 10/12 the 14 was what was required when wearing a fleece as well. I have a Rab of over twenty years which has now lost its waterproofness - it was expensive at the time but works out at less than £10 per year! Since then fashions have changed and things are a lot tighter fitting and shorter - the hoods now also seem very strange but it was useful to see how you can make it work for a walker as opposed to a climber with a helmet.

Hi! I’m so glad you found the review useful 😃 I’ve worn the jacket in quite a few long downpours and it’s not let me down yet. I agree about jackets changing over the years-why are they so tight and short now?! I particularly don’t understand the length-I like a jacket to cover my bottom too and keep that dry! I’m like you when it comes to research too-make a big comparison table!

It’s a brilliant jacket Dave... it’s just the price 😱 I feel lucky to have it. Why does my gear wish list just get longer and longer..? 🤣🤣 Will I ever have enough stuff? (Clearly NO 😂) ATB-keep up the great videos! 😍

I keep saying I am buying a Rab jacket but then I look at the price and think, ouch! I know you get what you pay for and looking back the amount of cheaper jackets I have bought and then failed, I should have bitten the bullet earlier. Very comprehensive review, cheers Alan

Thanks Alan! I know what you mean though-I’m always buying less expensive gear which can be very good but is often hit and miss and I end up wishing I’d waited and paid more! This cost of this Rab jacket did hurt(!) but I honestly don’t regret it at all. I just need an endless supply of cash from somewhere to buy gear 🤣

@@karenguttridge Hi Kaz, I am planning to do it in August, doing a mixture of camping and other accommodation. I'm in the process of getting my camping gear together, but getting there. I'm going to do a test run locally and stay at a camp site to check it all out in a couple of weeks. Very excited. Keep up the good work. Steph

@@stephanieboorer6116 Lovely month to do it! The test run idea is a great one-I really wish I’d done that then I would have realised that I needed to reduce the weight a little and I’d also have discovered that I hadn’t quite fitted my backpack correctly 🤣 If you have any more questions (on anything!) then please ask-I’ve done quite a bit of hiking in lockdown and each time you learn something 😊 Karen

@@karenguttridge I have a Mountain Equipment Ogre Goretex jacket bought about 10 years ago. For years it used to win Trail Magazines best jacket for UK conditions, but then Mountain Equipment discontinued it. I think it has been relaunched but is no longer goretex, and is now a bit lower down in their range.
