Nice purchase. Ideal to lift the material off your face rather than a regular bivy bag. Would have been good seeing a close up of you inside for an idea on the actual space inside.

Late to the party but top tip for the Ridge Raider Stu, peg out as normal but then unhook the front pegs and guys, pole with fold forward making it dead easy to step in and sit up when cooking, hook everything back up when you're closing up.

Great vid. I always put a small tarp under mine, making an area out front of my Ridge raider giving a dry/clean space to take shoes off and keep off the wet ground for easing into the bivi. The Rab ridge raider is my go to for ease of set up and like you say when camp space is small, it just fits. ATB mate

Stuart, that looks a bit interesting 😂 Even though it’s got a nice tall entrance by the time you get your sleeping gear in, that space will disappear! All the YT videos I’ve seen on this particular bivi the occupant have been built like racing snakes not like a Scottish front row forward!!! Looking forward to seeing a review after you’ve used it a few times. All the best from deepest Dorset 👍

Leave your pride at home when you get in and out of that! 🤣 Seriously, a good piece of kit!👍🏻 Out of interest, the mesh is mozzie proof, but is it midge proof?

For adverse conditions, add a tarp. I think camping needs systems. There's no perfect tool for every situation. Bivy bags and tarps are as good as a tent, but when you're out of your bag the tarp provides more room than any tent you'd carry. Can be set up in a multitude of ways depending on the situation. Bivi bags add 5 degrees to your sleeping bag. Provide bug protection. If you're super weight conscious, use a poncho as rain gear and as a tarp.
@RiverogueLander
@RiverogueLander Жыл бұрын
@@AndrewBryantPianoTuner It's good for very windy conditions that would tear apart or blow away 1 person tents (as virtually all of them are shaped like sails. It's durable eVent fabric, similar to Goretex, retails for $370. Any one person tent of similar weight will tear and break with 40 mph winds, they will also flap excessively and keep you up at night in the wind.

I'm surprised Rab hasn't updated this bivvy to include a full length zip in a similar style to the Dutch Army hooped bivvy. It looks a right pain to get in and out of at the head end.

How do you find it with an inflatable sleeping mat, only used mine once so far, I used my THERMAREST NeoAir xtherm, I found my down top quilt was being crushed slightly over my legs, which, as it was below freezing, had an impact on my warmth. Probably not an issue in warmer weather.

I've got a Dutch Army M90 sleeping bag with built in gortex bivvy. Good kit. I've recently bought a Rab Ascent 500 to try. Hopefully I'll be out in that tomorrow night 👍😊 That bivvy you've got there seems tiny. You're taller than me, even so I'm not sure I like the top entry aspect. I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on with it 😊👍

Once you got your kip mat and doss bag in there mate you'll loose some space plus nowhere for your bergen, boots and clothing. I use a GoreTex double hooped bivi but always with a tarp over it for extra weather protection and plenty of extra space to store bergen and other gear, it works well.

@@northernimagesphotography The original concept of the hooped bivi was for use by our Special Forces to give them a small usable portable weatherproof all round shelter but then civi Street commercialised it. The original bivi was larger but not by much and was double hooped DPM GoreTex. They are compact inside but very warm and dry, there definitely not designed for large people though.

@@neanderthaloutdoors9202 oh aye, I know that. I really meant today. There’s tents these days that are lighter and pack as compact. I use an old ex army bivi when I’m up on the hills for hours waiting for low level jets, just to keep the wind off me and warm me up a bit. I’d not be able to sleep in 1 though. I feel claustrophobic enough in my wild country zephyros 1.
