I've been watching your films for so many years now and I marvel at how your skill and creative flair as a film maker has grown and grown. Sandy, a small rubber ball inside the foot, tied with a clove hitch around it could work as a tether point. The guy line could be supported on a Y stick and anchored to the ground with a peg. That might work to free your feet from the bivvy material.

“A good feeling about this camp” “I’m enjoying myself” just what a camp should be about Sandy,I keep saying it but it’s totally true, being out in the woods is medicine for the soul. I think camping out in the woods is a natural cycle of sleeping at the right time when nature and your body tell you when it’s time to sleep. Not been able to do it for years now but still remember the feelings. Another lovely video, thanks for sharing Sandy. 73’s

I went through a bad patch of not sleeping but thankfully I'm getting some decent sleep again now, the one thing that helped me was going to bed NOT too early. A good bedtime for me is 11pm, then I'll read a book for a bit, normally only a page or two before I start to nod:)

Fantastic to see the woodland so green & lush, not to mention seeing you in your natural habitat. Thats a proper Wiltshire man nest. Very cosy indeed. My HR team at work got the giggles with me when I said can I request a new winter overcoat now it’s June. They agreed to order me one as it’s been so chilly recently. I guess it’s all the geo engineering & cloud seeding done by the government making May cold wet & miserable. You’re looking well Sandy.

Neat setup that. If you can find space for a lightweight tarp too then you're completely covered. Towards the end when you were making your coffee, you were down in what is known as the Asian Squat. You'd be surprised about just how many in their 60's and younger that can't get down that far and if they do, they can't get back up again. Well done and keep that heart pumping.

Hi Sandy. I'm feeling a bit down today and this video cheered me up. There were three stuff sacks, one containing the pole for the head, one large one for the tent and a third one, which I thought was for the pole for the foot box. I hope it's in the bottom of your pannier bag. The top of the cozy should fold back to enable you to eat your porride from the kettle without removing it from the cozy. All the best 🙂

Thanks Andrew, I hope you soon start to feel better again, I'll have a look again for the third bag, I didn't see it when I took it out? Maybe it's there somewhere but it's a lovely bivi and it worked really well for me. I loved sleeping with the bug net closing the door. I could feel a gentle breeze and just see the dark silhouettes of the tree's against the night sky. What a wonderful gift, you are a very kind person Andrew. Hi Sandy, I really enjoyed the video. In Australia we use swags, and I used to have a small, light weight canvas swag that the Ridge Raider bivvy reminds me of. It was hooped at the head end, and I think you'd be interested to know at the feet end it had a tiny 20cm aluminium tent pole that fitted into a o-ring hole at the top of the foot box area, if that makes sense. It created more room for the legs and feet. That bivvy looks great! Nothing better than getting out into the forest for a back to basics camp. Thanks for making and sharing your videos Sandy. They are really enjoyable to watch! 🙏👍🇦🇺

Yes all makes sense to me Francis, I think the design of the Ridge raider changed a few years ago to incorporate a small support pole at the foot end, but mine doesn't seem to have anywhere to locate a pole. I may have to adapt something, shouldn't be too difficult

Hi Marcus, yes there are some really nice true and honest people out there but sadly others are not in that state, I guess really at the end of the day they are the one's who lose out because they are not honourable. As far as I'm concerned there's only one way to go through life and thats as an honourable person. Life presents us with choices, they are often clear cut. The path forward leads two ways. Always choose the right path, the sign post is bold and bright!

Hi Sandy, to make the bivvy bag foot box take shape instead of being flat you could buy 2 x Wild Sky Gear DCF cuben fibre tarp tent adhesive heavy duty 3M stick on tie outs. Stick the tie outs to the upper corner of the foot box on either side, after cleaning the area with alcohol. Then attach 2 x guy ropes to the tie outs and peg them out over 2 x notched sticks, about one foot high, half way along the guy rope. The stick on tie outs are about £10 each. Hope this helps ?

looks like you have some nice equipment to enjoy on your adventures. I had a one person bivy shelter when I was a young man but traded it for a motorcycle. I have wished many times I still had that bivy. I now own two different US military bivy bags but they are both too small around to allow me to use a winter sleeping bag on top of a backpacking type inflated mattress.

Hello Sandy. Laudable generosity is exhibited by some of your viewers and subscribers! I hope Andrew will not mind my piling on with a bit of criticism of the bivi bag as I am including a suggestion for a workable fix that requires no cutting or stitching. As soon as I saw that shelter pitched, I thought the design lacked a method of erecting the footbox area. A loop at each side of the top surface at that end of the bag would facilitate guying out those corners either individually, or with a stick placed transversely through both loops and then guyed with a single line from its center point. Simple fabric loops add virtually nothing to the total weight of the shelter. Three or more added loops could also accommodate another support pole, which the manufacturer could either include with the shelter or offer as an optional accessory for those who don't mind carrying an additional support in their pack. As for the fix I mentioned, please consider using "Clip-on Tarp Pull Outs" offered by "Dutchware." The seller even has a short video demonstrating their use on his website.
@WiltshireMan
@WiltshireMan 7 ай бұрын
Thanks, Actually the bivi did work very well despite the fabric contacting my sleeping bag, only slight moisture at that point, but I maay try some clips later. The fabric loops and support poles that you mention would certainly do the job and not add much weight

It's not been especially warm in the UK either Ken and yet our met office says it's been the warmest May on record!?

Funny you should say that as our May was the coldest since 2009 said the TV weather girl, frost this morning and a beautiful day at present. No rain forecast till Sunday

Yet another great video Sandy. I think the feel good vibe extended well beyond your woodland. 👍🏻

Wow I did feel abit claustrophobic watching you get in yer bivvy........ I do like to move about abit in a tent and getting up in the night for two or three widdles.....nah, but each to their own it was a nice pitch & the food looked hearty....look forward to the next one. 'Ull' east yorkshire.

Lovely time of the year to be in the woods, everything is still that spring-green - love it! Not sure I'd be happy in a bivvy - I've got issues with confined spaces and am just not ready for a "bodybag" yet. 🤣 Look forward to your upcoming bike packing adventures.

I would just go out and wild camp in some quiet spot, anywhere close to a public right of way and you should be good, just pitch late and leave early and don't leave any mess

Pebble (2) on the inside of the bivvi toe box. Then tie a guy line to each pebble, and support with an 12" stick via a guy line 😉 Works well on my Dutch Army Bivvy Bag. Helps shed water too👌😎
