Quentin Tarantino knows how to "Take old and make into brand new all over again." Not just in the way he makes films with old elements in new cinematographic ways, but the music he chooses for his films. The sequencing, placement and choice of music completely gives his films a flair unlike any other director. May he make many more films!!

this is the perfect theme for those moments in a story where you have a last ditch, crazy plan to accomplish a goal and your characters give it their all, not expecting to survive. then when the smoke clears, they find...that they DID survive. and the plan DID work! its that moment of dawning triumph that is perfectly encapsulated here.

It's one of my favourite films of all time, and I've watched it more times than I can count actually. Really a spectacular work, especially given the layers upon layers of meaning that Tarantino works into it. You neglect the fact that mutilation of enemy bodies is a war crime, and that carving symbols into the flesh of a prisoner of war constitutes the legal definition of torture. The basterds also summarily execute not one but two prisoners of war in the film (also a war crime.)
