Conker's Big Reunion was actually released by Microsoft through Project Spark about 6 months before it went offline for good. Its a DLC that continues after Bad Fur Day it last only 30 minutes and was gonna be an episodic game by only one episode released and can no longer be downloaded.

For the record: Minecraft Story Mode season 1 had 2 different physical editions. One that had the first episode and the ability to download the next four. And the "Complete" edition which had all 8 episodes on disc, no install or season pass required. I bought the complete version on PS3 a couple of months ago and can guarantee that it still works.

For the #4 segment, I wouldn’t solely blame Nintendo for the fact that the Rebirth games disappeared, but also Konami for failing to preserve them, being that they are technically their games. And with the Wii Shop Channel no longer being a thing, they can pretty much do whatever they want with them. Even though I doubt they will. Also, if you count “traditional” Castlevania games as the 2D search-action ones, then technically Lords of Shadow; Mirror of Fates was the last one. Which was released on 3DS in 2013, and then ported to other consoles and PC not too long afterwards. Also-also, *dang,* I had no clue they took down Minecraft Story Mode ‘till now. My little brother got the physical version that came with Episode 1-5 from GameStop, but couldn’t download the other episodes beyond it for some reason. And now it finally makes sense why.

There might some sort of legalities involved. For instance, some SNES games like Final Fantasy 4 have 2 versions available, a HD pixel version and a 3D version, on most platforms. The original sprite versions are not available on other consoles or PC, which might be legalities to do with the Super Nintendo EXCEPT this also applies to FFIV After Years, where the pixel version was only available on the Wii Ware. Wish they brought back Wii Ware. There were some great stuff there.

Emulators and fan servers can't do everything, though. Sometimes it seems like they can, and I am super grateful for emulators and filesharing and fan servers when such things exist. But it's not 100% and some things still disappear forever. Sometimes there aren't even videos left to prove the game was real and not vaporware.

Just want to mention that you CAN still play the first episode of Conker's Big Reunion that came with Project Spark. After installing the game, make sure your console is offline before starting the game up and selecting the Conker episode. If you try to play the game while your console is online, it'll just try to connect to the non-operational servers and won't let you do anything, so remember to go offline first! This in no way makes up for them shutting the servers down so soon, and there's no way to play other people's creations, but at least you can play SOMETHING.

If you keep your ear to the ground, you'll find that FusionFall had a revival in the form of FusionFall Universe, and there's now OpenFusion to replace it. Also; City of Heroes/Villains has non-profit fan-operated servers publicly open after knowledge of their existence got leaked a few years ago.

What is crazy about Mario 35, is you had a fan make a Mario Battle Royale for PC that (in my opinion) was even better than Mario 35 which Nintendo shut down after it's popularity for 2 weeks. They then released 35 roughly 2 years later only to kill that game too.

I don’t think Minecraft Story Mode is terrible, per se, but I just personally believe giving Minecraft a linear, story-oriented games goes against the openness and freedom that the base game is known for. That and the writing is obviously geared more towards kids due to them being Minecraft’s primary audience. But hey, if peeps manage to enjoy it, more power to ‘em.👍🏽

The only thing about rabbidluigi that could be improved upon (compared to the other (great) things about him) is that he should stop sleeping on Pac-Man (seriously, the only time he mentioned it was when he put Pac-Man for the Atari 2600 on his list of top 5 worst video game remakes, and I think the Pac-Man World trilogy for handheld consoles could have also shared the same spot) and mention why Pac-Man Monsters could have been a contender for this list, but we’re already two videos (of video games that we can’t find anymore, so they’re not even 1% rare anymore) in and he still never gave Pac-Man a fair mention yet (like I said, in this case, it’s PMM).

I'm happy you showed Marble Blast Ultra! I first played it on an Xbox 360 demo disk (the one that came bundled with Sonic tennis), but I was sad to find out it was removed off of XBLA. Thankfully, at some point the entire game was released on Gamejolt at one point, and while I think that's been removed too, you can always find a zip file of MBU if you look long enough. (Or just ask me and I'll try to give you my copy!)

So another entire franchise I'd like to throw up here is: The Transformers games published by activision, specifically Transformers: Devastation. Activision lost the license to the transformers games, and because of that their popular War for Cybertron, Fall of Cybertron, and Rise of the Dark Spark games got pulled from digital stores for a few years. When Transformers: Devastation was released, they renewed the license and all of those games, including devastation, went back up for sale on digital platforms...For about a year, when they all got pulled from digital storefronts AGAIN, INCLUDING THEIR BRAND NEW DEVASTATION GAME. As of today, you still can't buy the games digitally unless you get a key from a reseller or something.

What this video makes me realize is simply how much harder it is to preserve games. Unlike with a film, show or book that can be preserved as a simple video or text file, a game is a whole different story. You need the console and some work in recoding to preserve. Especially true with numerous iPhone games I loved as a kid.

The other day I discovered that Bob's Game (the meta-puzzle version, not the demo of the RPG) had been taken down off of every known platform and the even github was deleted. So unless someone has a backup of the source, it's gone for good. Even the KZbin channel has been reduced to one video (I hesitate to point this out in case he meant to remove it and just overlooked it). This sucks because even though it wasn't the crazy revolutionary RPG he originally wanted to make, it was still a pretty good single and multiplayer falling blocks game with a ridiculously good editor. Better than Tetris 99, even. If you have a game in your Steam library that's called "ok", that's where Bob's Game was before he deleted it.

I wish to add a game to the list, Darkspore. The game was from the age of Absurd EA DRM and you could only install it once per disk, however that isn't the reason I am putting this game forward. It was also an online only game with no capability to RUN without linking to the servers. Even if you have a valid install it won't work since they took the servers down. Thankfully there are people working to make the game playable again, but Darkspore remains a game I am pissed about for how much I enjoyed it only for it to become unplayable for me in two different ways. First I had to go through EA customer support when my install broke to fix it since you couldn't just reinstall it, and man wasn't that a fucking laugh, they were condescending and blamed me for the game's failure, and it took me giving them the code for the disk, the place I purchased the disk and providing proof of purchase before they would give me a new one time use code to fix my install, only for the servers to be taken down not two months later. As bad as some of the games here are in terms of being unplayable, at least they were given a dignified demise, not just having the rug pulled out from under them. To explain the game has all the data needed to run solo without the servers except for specific packages created by the server to tell the game how to take its data and construct the levels. In other words with a simple patch the game could have been made playable beyond the end of the servers and instead they killed it outright. Those people trying to make the game playable have had to figure out how to spoof the server call and try to figure out how to construct the packages it needs. The fact they even got an empty map parcel to load is a miracle, and if they succeed in making the game playable again I would willingly pay the amount I payed for the game again to them in thanks if I could. TLDR: FUCK EA! Darkspore was awesome.

There are still physical copies of Project Spark though, and the game will still update with all the content and Conker's Big Reunion. So for as long as disc versions exist, you can still play the game, and as long as the Xbox One servers are up, you can still play Conker's Big Reunion.

Another mention for me is Evolve. It's not a great game, as it is held back by some of the design choices and how some of its best features are locked behind a paywall, but it is a solid multiplayer shooter where you have to try to solve problems and fight monsters. It's a lot like Left 4 Dead, which makes sense with both games made by the same developer. What's unique from Left 4 Dead is the fact that one of the players take the role of the boss monster who needs to level up while dealing bits of damage to the hunting team. It's actually heartbreaking to see it fall with such promise. What the hell 2K? Why did you have to overmonetize it and cause a lot of its playerbase to stop playing it? Not to say Turtle Rock isn't partially to blame for it. After all, another reason for its failure was the fact that one of the monsters could become ten times as fast and clone itself. Regardless, so much of its playerbase left, it became free to play before eventually shutting down its servers. At least we can still play as a monster in Dead by Daylight. Sure, some of its own best content was also monetized, but it was loads more replayable and is ironically still evolving itself. Maybe Evolve could have remained popular if it let you play as a xenomorph...

I have to correct you slightly on Minecraft: Story Mode. While the normal physical edition of the game only contains episode one, this only applies to the console versions of the game. You can still play the game on PC and can still download all the episodes since the episodes are stored on Steam's servers, and not Telltale's servers. (At least for the Steam version of the game. Unsure how it is with GOG. Speaking from experience since I did get the game on PC even after its delisting.) The only way to get the game digitally on PC now is by buying a redeemable code. As for how to play all the episodes on consoles, the "The Complete Adventure"-Edition of the game (season one specifically) has all episodes pre-loaded on the disc itself. As for season 2, you can still play all the episodes of that game if you specifically buy the Nintendo Switch version of the game, since that version came out after the season was complete. Hence, all the episodes are pre-loaded on the cartridge, like the "The Complete Adventure"-Edition of season one.

The worst thing to me about those Konomi games on Wiiware is that they had a good opportunity when they put out those colections a few years ago to get these games back out there as a final add on. I just hope that since they seem to like these collections that maybe a Rebirth collection might be in the cards.

I wouldn't blame digital bits all that much; there's a huge list of lost movies, in several cases where people just didn't worry until they opened the only known copy to the smell of vinegar. A decent chunk of early TV was never recorded or the tapes abandoned or destroyed. I'd worry about games on physical media as well; old disks are often unreadable, and even cartridges are often dying.

Both Minecraft Stories have hard copies that have all the eps for S1 think was PS4/XBoxOne and for S2 only the switch one if I recall? All other ones were EP1 discs so this untrue unless don't have system for the completed copies

So here is a very obscure game that I miss. It is called Great Whale Road. It is... The best way to explain it is that it is a Viking themed city manager with some combat and hand drawn art. It was discontinued as the developers kicked the bucket. Why I remember it is because I almost got a job at that studio. Or rather I reached out to them, had a phone interview, and then I heard they were closing down.

I really don't mind timed releases like Mario 35 when they let you know ahead of time that the game will cease to function at a specific date. There is something kinda cool about an experience only being available for a time where you just kinda had to be there.

Earlier this year Bangai 0: Missile Fury got pulled from XBLA with absolutely no warning and even Delisted Games didn't seem to notice and as far as I'm aware still hasn't, this was a massive kick in the crotch to me because I had just set aside some money to finally get it myself and complete my Xbox 360 Shmup collection, only to find out the hard way that the game was delisted almost exactly a month earlier with zero fanfare or advanced warning of any kind!

Mario 35 was such a fun concept, and an interesting take on the "battle royale". That they decided to remove it so soon afterward is such a shame. Yeah, they wanted to create their own little Unus Annus moment, where "you had to be there, man" and all that, but if it is a good concept, and people loved it, and people miss it now that it is gone...... why get rid of it? Make it a permanent feature, and just increase the player pool by +1 every anniversary. I'd still play it if it was called "Mario 37" or whatever.
