Very nice pattern. Thanks for all your videos and inspiration. In my area…Tie that in green, maybe lighten up the weight a bit, and you have an excellent crab for hungry Striped Bass feeding on sand flats. Well done!

Great tutorial. Here in southern California we have many fish that eat crabs, but aside from sand crab patterns in the surf, not many people use crab patterns. This pattern could be very effective in the shallower parts of or local bays. I don't think it's too widely known, but there are lots of bone fish in the back of San Diego bay. They don't get more than maybe 15" long and you don't get to sight fish for them. But they're still a blast to catch. Think I'll tie up a few smaller versions of these to try out. Spotted bay bass and 3 species of croaker also eat crabs and are common in the back bay.

Oh for sure, yeah there are some bonefish in SD bay. I used to live in Orange County. Most of the surf fishing is sand crabs. But your right some fish do eat actual crabs in the bays. Give it a try and let me know how it works for you down there. Thanks for the comment. BTW, I used to work on the party boats out of Dana Wharf when I was in high school during about the year 2001... Maybe Ive seen you there before.

@@McFlyAngler I live in the far south end of San Diego n only fished out of Dana point 1 time. Did lots of SD bay fishing with my dad growing up down here. Still good fishing plus the bone fish and short fin corvina are around now.

Nice, yeah I did a lot of tuna fishing out of H&M landing down there in San Diego. Miss the fishing out there sometimes. I don’t miss the regulations though. Haha

I had my thumb removed and I haven't learned just yet how you use my hand to make nice patterns. But I can still cast and fish. So I was wondering do you sell any of your works
@McFlyAngler2 жыл бұрын
Yea I do sell any fly pattern. Best way is to private message me on Instagram. Or you can find my email on my KZbin homepage under the about section. I’m sorry to hear about your hand, hopefully it heals quickly

Very simple my favorite fly to tie what’s your favorite fly to tie?
@McFlyAngler2 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on where I’m going fishing. My favorite is which flies will be catching me fish . Haha

Is there a natural material that can substitute for congo hair?
@McFlyAngler2 жыл бұрын
I can’t think of anything. There are other crab patterns that use all natural materials. But doesn’t mean it fishes better. Synthetic works great for some applications, building bodies like this is one where it excels

can you make a budget bass fly video?
@McFlyAngler2 жыл бұрын
Is there a fly called a budget bass? Or are you asking me to make a fly that is inexpensive to make and works for bass? If the latter, I’ve already made some super simple flies that work for bass and cost next to nothing to tie. Bully bluegill is one. Coming soon is a fly called the cyperts minnow, and flies like clousers are pretty inexpensive also.
