Hay isn't just dried grass. Once the grass is harvested. The drying must be done speedily. Reducing the water content in the grass to 20>%. Drying the grass is part of the process of making hay. Hay is actually a fodder conservation method. Which reduces the water content of the selected forage (usually grass). It Becomes Hay when this said water content becomes less than 20% by weight of the grass. In so doing the lack of water ceases the "Respiration" process of the plant. Whereby trapping the nutrients made by photosynthesis during the day. These nutrients become stored in the cells. At this stage the grass and it's nutrients are in a preserved state. Hay is done so that the surplus of grass which is grown during conducive seasons. Can be harvested and stored for use during the drought periods. The hay process also increases dry matter intake DMI. Another beneficial factor in making good quality hay. Apart from the drying process. Is the harvesting time of the grass. It is important to harvest the grass at a growth maturity. At the highest available nutrient content. Allowing efficient digestibility for the specific livestock. In this case for the monogastric hindgut-fermenter (rabbit). This period would be between 4-6 weeks where the digestible fibre and nutrient content would by at the optimum.

Hi is hay more beneficial than the green grass? How often should the rabbits eat hay or green grass and how soon after birth should grass be introduced to the babies? I’m a new rabbit farmer and your videos help a lot

Beautiful!! Great job. Hay is important or rabbits growth rate because it forces them to take water more than they will do with just grass or even concentrated. My rabbits gets hay very well regardless of the raining season. Pls can you link me to the WhatsApp group for rabbit farmers? Thanks
