Rabbit & Steel! I think one thing that got lost in just hearing the Emerald Lake track is that the track dynamically changes from a hummed version to the singing version here when you go from the standby stage to combat. The singing becomes a surprise as you're fighting 😹 And Valiant Battle is definitely a banger 😎 "To me, my Mice of Round!"

This game is adorable, cute, fun, then a dragon throws 6 rotating lasers while telling you and your friends to spread out or stack together or combinations of both while also exploding squares into giant plus shaped damage zones, and asks you to find the safe places to be in two seconds while reacting to where your friends moved too. Then you perish, and you go again because Emerald Lakeside is a bop and everything here is adorable, cute, fun, and pretty quick/easy to get into. And you learn bit by bit via lots of confusion and pain to parse the chaos on screen, and it feels good! Some would describe it as FFXIV raid mechanics meets touhou/shmup sort of gameplay all crammed into a roguelike - lots of things to dodge and constantly be aware of on screen, small hitbox for your character, precise movements, and classes to pick/build around. It's chaotic with friends, but it's utterly charming, it's one of the only roguelikes I've ever found myself able to get into - but that does come from a history of MMO raiding so...take that with a grain of salt~ It absolutely shines with a few friends!

Admittedly I've been watching your vids for ages as I find your reactions and takes to VG songs super interesting, but I just wanted to say I did NOT expect to see Rabbit and Steel here as its pretty niche, but a diamond in the rough imo. Made me even HAPPIER to realize the person requested my two favourite tracks! :D Thanks for the listen as always and thank you to the requester too for choosing these!

I LOVE this game and this composer, I can't remember if you heard them before but they also composed for One Step From Eden, Duelists of Eden and Maiden and Spell (the last one being a game from the same dev as Rabbit and Steel). Maiden and Spell was basically a mix of Touhou + Fighting game 1v1 gameplay, this game is Touhou + Coop Roguelike + Final Fantasy XIV fight design and it's REALLY fun. Emerald Lake I think is the only song with vocals in the whole game so it stands out a lot, it's the combat theme for the Emerald Lake zone so, lots of green on the screen basically. A Valiant Battle is the Churchmouse Streets boss theme, you are fighting the knights of the round, except they're mice wielding swords, spears, etc, it's really cute.

The FFXIV community has found a creative new way to get music they like onto this channel! (Rabbit and Steel is a game strongly influenced by MMO raiding but in a roguelike format without all the MMO fluff and XIV players tend to really like it)

Wow, these were fantastic. I've had this game on my steam wishlist for a little while now. Thinking I'm going to just go and buy it now, I need the context around these songs. Also, wow, that toy store analogy is spot on. Never thought about it like that. When I was a kid I was limited by money, now I'm limited by time lol.

So funny thing about Rabbit and Steel--it's an action game that's actually decently inspired by Final Fantasy 14 no less. You know all those times you had footage of a fight and mentioned how it looked like a rough time? Basically, it's fights like that distilled down to a 2d plane and allowing for 1-4 player co-op. Though actually, as I'm writing this I've come to a bit of a realization. I've got a partner into shmups, and they've always joked about getting me to try one after seeing me play FFXIV. Given how this game looks, I might actually be able to get them to try it with me as a middle ground between each of our zones of interest. In a weird way, thanks for the gift idea!

Rabbit and Steel!!! All of the tracks in the game are instrumental except for Emerald Lakeside. Each zone of the game is separated into a different theme of animal-people who are under a spell that's enhancing their negative emotions and making them combative. The rabbits are player characters - the adventuring heroes. Emerald Lakeside is the zone of Frogs, and they're all artists in some manner. It's the only zone with a vocal track (and a humming bit during the non-action parts) because the leader of the frogs is a diva/songstress.

A good game with friends, honestly a stealth hit.

Definitely didn't expect to see this game come up. Played it for a while with a couple of my closest friends, is quite fun. Emerald Lakeside probably my favourite track too.

This game has one of my favorite soundtracks. I eagerly await a reaction to Moonlit Pinnacle if that gets requested

Based on the music you just heard, you might be surprised to learn that this game is incredibly difficult. Rabbit & Steel is very interesting, it's a mash-up of the Bullet Hell genre (Like Touhou) and MMO style combat which forces the players to position themselves precisely in order to dodge attack mechanics while you manage your own attack cooldowns. Basically, the single player is more bullet hell, the co-op (2-4 players) is more MMO.
