I think you're one of the speedpainting channels I used to watch waaay back, I saw your other video talking about your deep passion for rabbits and then went on about actually breeding them for meat. I have to apologize for this but my first initial thought was what crazy person can eat their pets?? whats wrong with this person?? and then the rest of the week your actions were in the back of my head and slooowly but surely I started to realize how living like this is probably the most ethical way to consume meat in the world! All you do is produce happiness. happy bunnies, happy you, less money for actual horrible slaughter factories. Now this last week all I've been doing is religiously watching homestead videos on youtube. THANK YOU so much for having the bravery to sharing this lifestyle with us! even tho it's ''taboo'' at first glance. It has given me so much healthy knowledge

This comment has made my day ❤️ thank you so much for giving me your thoughts. Yes I was that speedpainter you probably watched, wolves in almost every single one! 😊 the more I have grown into this lifestyle the more I believe that we should know our food. Sometimes raising them for meat doesn’t come easy emotionally. But I don’t think it should be, I think that is what makes us appreciate their lives so much more ❤️ thank you so much for being honest. I’m really happy you’re here 😊

I'm just getting into mini homesteading since we have a house now with about a quarter of an acre and I'm excited to see that rabbits would be relatively easy to raise and utilize manure in our vegetable garden! You've inspired me and remind me of my BFF. Line your videos. A somewhat recent book called "The forever Dog" would probably suit your interests as it's all about the ways that humans care for dogs to give them the longest, healthiest life based on case studies and genetic information.

My male wont touch hay. I can put it in there but he doesnt eat it. He eats only pellets and dried cranberries as a regular, but small treat (one or two cranberries at a time). His teeth look fine after 3 years of this diet, so I have to assume the pellets are hard enough to grind the teeth.

I just came across your and love the info you gave in this video. I have a New Zealand/Mini-Rex female rabbit that we plan on breeding her for meat rabbits. How much pellets do you feed your rabbits? I have researched for awhile and cannot find a solid answer. We tried feeding her 1/4 cup pellets every day but she stated to seem to lose weight.

Hi there! I’m glad you found me, awesome to hear about your meat rabbit journey! So last year if you asked me this question I would have probably answered 1/2 cup in the morning and 1/2 cup at night. But nowadays I typically free feed my rabbits. The only time I do not free feed is if the rabbit has a tendency to overeat. 1/4 a cup a day is not sufficient enough food for a 6-class rabbit. I hope this helps you! 😊

QUESTION? I was told to ONLY give straight Timothy to juvenile buns... Not even T&A due to too much Alfalfa will kill the kits? I"m new to breeding. I breed Pedigree Standard Rex and am only on my 2nd round of litters.. (5 Breeder Doe's) So can you explain why only Alfalfa hay? Thanks in advance - I am a new subscriber to you and love what your doing and admire your knowledge!! TY Jami
@TealStoneHomestead3 жыл бұрын
Alfalfa has higher levels of calcium and protein, which is great for growing babies. But too much calcium for adult rabbits that are done growing can result in a buildup of calcium, which can be dangerous over a long period of time. I don’t typically buy alfalfa, only Timothy, orchard grass, clover, etc. honestly I don’t worry too much about types of hay if it has less than 50% alfalfa in it 😊

how do u know if ur rabbits have worms?
@MaryGatdula4 жыл бұрын
The bunnies and chicks are adorable; especially the bunnies. Do you raise the rabbits just for show and pets, or do you also raise them for meat? I'm kind of on the fence about raising rabits for meat and fur and manure, of course. But nobody I know wants to eat rabbit (" but they are so cute")! I have no interest in showing rabbits because I'm a super homebody. LOL Not too sure I want to have a couple just for poo! And I definitely wouldn't have them just for poo and fur! I personally probably couldn't eat more than maybe 4 or 5 a month at about 2.5 to 3 lbs each! When a serving of meat is 4 ounces! And I can't afford to have a couple just as pets. There's no guarantee I could sale any extras So what to do? I really do want to have some. Am I crazy? Or just plain stupid? Could you give me your opinion?
@TealStoneHomestead4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! 😊 I raise for meat, fur, and show. With the silver foxes I am trying to perfect the breed as it is in ARBA’s standard of perfection, but I have a long way to go! I think if I were you, I’d pick a breed from ARBA’s website that really interests you and seek out breeders. Personally I think it’s way easier to sell purebred, pedigreed rabbits than it is to sell meat mutts. Study up on the breed and start networking (I usually join Facebook groups and ask who is around in my area). Then maybe just buy a breeding pair to begin with. If you don’t need a ton of meat, you can breed more infrequently. Our rabbits for meat so far have only gone to my husband and I. One rabbit is 2-3 meals for us. Plus their poop is wonderful fertilizer so you can definitely utilize that as well! Then a year down the road if they don’t seem to be working out for you, you can always sell them to other breeders. Much easier to find buyers when they are purebred 😊 I hope that helps you out! You’re definitely not crazy!
@amandaolsen88583 жыл бұрын
Seed mixes are not good for rabbits at all. A rabbits diet should consist of mostly hay (at least 80%) than leafy greens and a tiny bit of good quality Timothy hay pellets. ( usually about a tablespoon but it depends the weight of the rabbit.) just a friendly tip. 🙂
@amandaolsen88583 жыл бұрын
Also herbs are a great natural safe treat thing to feed them they have mild medicinal purposes 🙂
@TealStoneHomestead3 жыл бұрын
@@amandaolsen8858 correct on the herbs. Breeders have different theories on pellets. Not saying you’re wrong, in fact I think that most breeders need too loosen up and feed more greens. Seed mixes are actually wonderful in moderation. Pellets are a “complete” diet in and of themselves, but variety is key (my philosophy) so I like to feed hay, greens, and seed mixes as well. I linked the educational resource I used in the description. Feel free to nerd out on it! 😊
