RABBIT & SNAIL

Күн бұрын

With new and exclusive interviews, we celebrate the hugely talented and hugely popular, Reg Varney, star of the classic comedy, On the Buses, which reached 74 TV episodes and three feature films.
Reg is joined by former cast members Anna Karen, Stephen Lewis and Andria Lawrence, as well as writers Ronalds Chesney and Wolfe, production supervisor Roy Skeggs, Hammer runners Brian Reynolds and Phil Campbell, On the Buses Fan Club organiser Steve Luxton and film historian, Morris Bright MBE.
These interviews are part of our recent feature length documentary On the Buses at the Movies that celebrates the 50th anniversaries of the classic British comedy film series, On the Buses, Mutiny on the Buses and Holiday On the Buses. The documentary goes behind the scenes, looks at the making of the films and reflects on the their enduring appeal.
Special thanks to Morris Bright MBE for allowing us access to his archive interviews with Anna, Reg, Stephen, Roy and the two Ronnies that were recorded in 2002.
Hope you enjoy it.

There are actually only 6 episodes without Reg/Stan (The final half of series 7) and 3 of those 6 are just as good as any other :-)

Reg was given word of the show when he was in Australia, I believe, and he immediately took it upon himself to learn how to drive a bus. Clever guy.

Something heart warming in 70's comedy, used watch it with my Nan and Grandad, all Cockney humour only UK could get ...its our own London period. Gone.

For me, it is beyond such a shame that Bob Grant who played Jack Harper could not find regular work after this gem of a series ended. Even Stephen Lewis (Blakey) worked in programmes such at Last of the Summer Wine after On the Buses. Bob Grants posh accent could have been off set the Compo character (Bill Owen) for example. Still hard to deal with the death of Anna Karen in a house fire too.

Lovely to see this! However, Michael Robbins actually left the show before Reg to concentrate on stage roles, and there was only half a series, the final one without Reg/Stan.

Just a thought… let’s just say David Jason hadn’t played Del Boy I wonder if Reg could have played it.. I understand that time lines and age would not have lined up but I’m sure Reg would have been a great Del Boy!!!

i wasnt keen on stan he was very cocky just cos he was the driver he thought he knew everything. didnt like his attitude. my uncle knew him in real life and said reg was very rude to people if the camera wasnt on i loved on the buses but really enjoyed the last few without reg the charcters seemed to relax more love the movies the bigger man when reg was skidding in the movie on the water was the real man who trained my daddy who was a driver for 42 years i loved holiday on the buses it is my favourite of the 3 movies
