At first I thought it was simply curious, but then it attacked the bucket - yep, it's rabid. Poor creature, it only has few days to live, at most. I don't know how in US or wherever you are, but in Poland we periodically drop oral rabies vaccine for foxes in the forests from planes. It somehow helped reduce rabies cases among foxes, too bad that now bats becoming more important carriers...

We live in the country, on a lake. One night, when I came home and got out of my car, a red fox appeared out of nowhere and started prancing and circling around me like a dog begging a treat. I froze. Eventually it gave up and wandered off. I never saw it again. My wife thought it must have been an animal that neighbours had been feeding, but to this day, I just don’t know. It sure acted bold for a wild animal.

From the look of it, the fox isn't showing obvious signs of rabies physically(foaming), but there are some key things im seeing that could be the case: 1. The fox isn't acting like a fox. A wild fox wouldn't be so bold to approach anyone. 2. The fox is biting onto everything. If the fox had interactions with humans, they would linger around and wait for you to give them food. This one is obviously aggressive. 3. Another subtle thing is how the fox is acting. A rabid animal acts just like this. They usually approach anyone casually before they attack, and they attack without reason. Even with these observations, the one behind the video already confirmed that the fox has rabid due to the testing done on its carcass

If you see weird behavior in an animal (whether aggressive or docile), you should just assume it's rabies and act accordingly. Luckily this guy did the right thing, killed this rabid animal, and contacted the proper authorities.

This thing is definitely not rabid. You would never see it use that sly way of getting close to you, acting like it was just trying to sniff you and bite while you weren't expecting it, a rabid animal doesn't have instincts like that. If it were really rabid, you'd see this thing meandering around, stumbling and wobbling like it's drunk, and it probably would be wandering aimlessly, almost as if it were unaware you were even there. The lack of seizures is also telling me you just came across a pissed-off, territorial little fucker of a fox.

Strong disagree. Rabies has stages and the stupor you’re talking about isn’t until the last stage, as are the seizures. At that point they aren’t really biting anymore because they lost awareness and will only attack if you approach them on your own.

@@urban_fox4658 hey, I run a dog team and the bin was full of seal meat and the axe was to separate it. The fox tried to bite two of the sled dogs before using the axe to kill it. And you’re right, it was tested and came back positive for rabies. I had to get rabies vaccinations right after.
