4:11 For roleplaying purpose? I made a half elf in a school settings, and thought that my character shouldn't be proficient in any skill other what I've already picked, and I wanted to make a desirable character who want to be portrayed as good on everything, so I figured I want my character to be able to swim better, and turns out my dm made a swimming team. It's damn satisfying.

WOW! I did not know this subclass existed! And, to be honest, I am really glad it does. Yes, I agree, it's mathematically bad, but I don't mind making suboptimal characters for roleplaying reasons. It always bothered the heck out of me that all half-elves were apparently half-high-elves. Even just lore-wise that made no sense and for diversity's sake I would already make sea-half-elf NPCs as a homebrew, but good to know they officially exist! Of course when it comes to NPCs I care even less about how good the stats are. But, as I said, even for my player characters I can see myself picking this, because I don't like the RP baggage of being a full elf (I don't know how it feels to have lived for such a long time), but I love all aquatic races like Tritons, water genasi and sea-elves, just because I love the idea of being of the sea. So, a sea-half-elf is perfect for me! Plus, it's pretty unique. Like you said, you've never seen one. In any case, thank you so much for this video!!!

The only reason i find this race not worth it that you swim underwater easily BUT CAN'T BREATH. Which pretty much killed it for me. If it did have breathing as well it'll make good for those who want to make sea based characters for thematic, for example me, i like GOO locks with underwater races so Tritons, sea elves, and in this case half elves which is better because they already come in with +2 to charisma (Fathomless is fine but not better than Great old ones for me).

if you choose your class based on what's "mathematical good" I'm really deeply sorry for you. to me you miss the main point of roleplaying I've chosen the aquatic half elf, just because it's really cool, and fun to play. i was hoping on some background lore and fluff to make my character better, but seems like im on the wrong channel

Played one of these in saltmarsh. Not gonna lie, I thought saltmarsh was severely lacking in actual water based combat/quests, and I could have just gone with something better
