Dixon earned that one. Had to save fuel while holding off Newgarden then Herta. Pretty good race! Very interesting keeping up with all the different strategies.

How on earth was Herta allowed to keep that 2nd place after punting Newgarden out of the way? That type of stuff makes Indycar tough to watch sometimes. So inconsistent with penalties. I’d be kicking up a fuss if I was Newgarden. He’s second place or wins this race otherwise.

To paraphrase the commentators (I don't recall which said it) if you penalized him there you'd have to have penalized a LOT of people in that race. Honest mistake, bad timing, and bad luck. Nobody was going to catch Dixon anyway, and frankly I think Newgarden would have struggled to hold off Herta. Likely cost Newgarden third though.

I've been paying attention to open wheel racing for a long time. I've heard or seen every 4x winners race at Indy except AJs first one. This definitely ranks up there as one of my favorite races ever. Dixon is amazing!

Ok, we have the drivers, but we need more on the car side. If this series had more chassis options (not that Dallara isn't awesome), and more engine options, we would have an American F1. Only, it would be better than F1. Imagine Dallara, Ligier, March, and Lola making chassis. Imagine Ford and Alfa Romeo joining Chevy and Honda in powerplants. That would be the ultimate.

Intentionally--I don't think so, but is SHOULD have been a penalty regardless ... maybe they addressed it post race I haven't seen. Nevertheless, it was an egregious error and the stewards are as consistent as politicians in DC .... we were ALL robbed of an epic battle ... that is my point, it looks AWFUL .......

You're never going to have anyone go all out with 85 laps of racing. Even if you allow for stupid amounts of fuel and tires, someone is going to conserve to save time in the pits.
