Good start of the 2024 IndyCar Series season by Pato O'Ward 🇲🇽 with his podium in the Grand Prix of St Petersburg‼️🥈 He made a great race but hopefully we can see him in the top step of the podium the next time 🦆🧡🖤 Also happy to see in the podium Josef Newgarden 🇺🇲 as the winner and Scott McLaughlin 🇳🇿 on 3rd place. A difficult race for Callum Illot 🇬🇧 in 13th place but good to see him back in IndyCar, the results of my favorite drivers aside of Pato 😃

European here (yes, by "St. Petersburg", I always think of the Russian city first), and an almost complete newbie to IndyCar. Does this series use the same two dry tyre compounds for every non-oval circuit, or (similarly to F1) there are a whole bunch of compounds and Firestone selects two of them for each venue?

As far as I know it's only the two compounds most of the time, but the green-walled tyre seen here is made out of a different material to the usual softer tyre (red-wall) and is only used on street circuits.

It's not quite the same as Pirelli where they have 5 or 6 dry compounds all year. They've got 2 street course tires, 2 road course tires, and tires for the various ovals. They tried a 2 compound oval race last year, but I don't know if that will carry over. They do only have 1 full wet tire (not used on ovals) so your option during rain is full wet or full dry.

Congratulations to Josef Newgarden! Pole to P1, the domination in the race was outstanding! I found the race to be boring with only one green flag pit stop. The alternate tires didn't wear off and there wasn't much racing as the overtakes were passes. I like the new restart procedure. 5 minutes are enough to summarise the race, however as mentioned still better than F1!

Decent first race, way better than F1 first 2 races anyways. Now teams will fix some issues and race 2 would be more entertaining. PS: The track doesn't look too good for racing. It's just a boring track. Drivers can't do too much about a boring track. Same as in Formula E with city tracks. All drivers just form a train and that's it. We need better and WIDER tracks with more attack lines.

Verstappen is a much broader drivers in terms of capabilities in different cars. I couldn't see Newgarden getting a podium finish in F1, but i sure could see Verstappen getting a podium in Indy.
