I would luv one. We grew up on jap spagbol frames in the 70s and early 80s and even the 1955 BSA 650 pre unit handled better than any jap bike of the era and was better than the triumph bonneville especially with bonnys lockhead brakes forks yokes. Steady as a rock and a work of art those old BSA twin frames even the lovely rigid frame of 1949. The girder forks looked great but teles were better and the plunger frame was optional later. BSA made bthem out of the surplus gunmetal from WW2 and the braising was so beautifully done, as good as the new Norton 961 commandos.

I had a 2000 TL1000R. Looked great in blue and white and still does today! The top end was quite impressive for a twin, but I did not like the flat spots down low - especially off the line. Vibration was fairly controlled, the bike was stable, but the rear shock was soft - with little feedback to the rider. I have gone back to four's looking for a smoother ride.

Not only the GSXR but the busa came along at the same time. Couple that with the rear suspension everyone blames for them crashing the bike. And yeah for some reason they just gave up on it. I have an 02 TLR and she aint slow i can keep up with most modern liter bikes and out corner a lot of the 600s out there so i think it was a wasted bike that deserves to be revamp.

As I understand? you bit them as you combined braking with engine and brakes? Because you did it only at crooks, did you?
@thetemplar86953 жыл бұрын
Not positive on his approach but I have a TL1000R, RC 51 and a 999 (that I’ve tracked) and being hit on the throttle immediately coming out of the corners would have taken 1/2 those guys in the beginning. My 999 is relentless coming out of corners and people have always not believed I didn’t have a full race motor (was bone stock with Termi pipe). So do you feel the TL is a lot “porkier” than other V-twins? (On the track)
@raketendaniel53963 жыл бұрын
If you modify the suspension, the TLR is a stable bike, especially on the brakes. And the engine is fun, even if from today's perspective it has far too little power for the racetrack.
@thetemplar86953 жыл бұрын
@@raketendaniel5396 Ya she does have a hella set of brakes up front, which I like (as I tend to trail brake or brake really late......bad habit from my racing days) but I surely saw why the TL was never really competitive, as compared to the 999 and RC51. My Duck is point and shoot and she (out of the crate) has been a dream. The RC51 took a little massaging, where I put in some stiffer fork springs, valve emulators, 4 into 1 pipe (+jetting) and some head porting. The TL I have really yet to delve into, so I’d be interested to know what mods you undertook. I also found it cool you were at like 3k when starting......while all the inline 4’s were rapping out. It’s like you were thinking......”It’s ok, I’ll pass you in a lap or two.” Haha 🤙

@@raketendaniel5396 wow that’s at least 20 HP increase then. I’d bet by going down a tooth on the front sprocket would feel like an extra 15 HP. I did it to my previous bike a ZZR 1100 D and it makes a big difference. I still saw 175 mph on the clocks but who needs that on public roads. It’s how it got to that speed with the shorter gearing that matters most. I’m going to do the same for my TLR. It will probably show 170mph on the clocks after the sprocket mod and that’s enough for me on the roads😉 what you had done was expensive but the sprocket mid is cheap. Thanks buddy👍
