Mopar drake race action! Drake racing my 1968 Dodge Dart powered by a small block mopar 360. This dodge 360 and 727 torque flight with a 4500 stall makes a great combo. I’m still figuring the new small block build 360 mopar out and I learned that short shifting improved my ETs!

Back in the early 90's I had a high 11 low 12 second Nova, there was some tech issue at 11.99 that if I didn't make it compliant I couldn't race, forgot what it was, but anyways, I slowed the car down to run consistent 12.20s by adjusting the throttle linkage, it was really easy, took 30 seconds to complete and easy to restore when I left the track. I like your car, and your channel, keep it up!!

The experienced drag racers in your audience have not failed you! You shifted a litter sooner, no longer hitting the rev limiter and you have your fastest times yet! Do the same thing on the 2-3 shift and I'll bet you'll have another fastest pass yet. Another thing to consider for best ET is to shallow stage as MUCH as possible. Get that stage beam to barely light up and it gives you more 'rollout' or moving momentum by the time the timers start. I would shift into high gear at the same rpm you shifted into 2nd gear in this video with that sweet, clean revving transition with NO breakup from the rev limiter. You'll be in the 10's soon (1/4 mile) I'm sure! Nice job!!

Jesus that's a short track. Kinda like the 1/8th at Evergreen in Monroe Wa. Raced on that one once in my 68 notchback Barra'Cuda...Nope. I use to spend my time at Mission...just a few miles across the Abbotsford border for me...Covid shut me down there. My best time is 11.68 @ 118. Stroked 408 LA roller, Indy LAX big valves ported & shaved to 59cc's. 10.8:1. 521 hp with an Eddy Pro Flow 4 Sequential Multi-Port intake. 4.10's 727 full race manual body and trans brake...Goes like hell.

Even though it's short, it is great for test & tuning and would be awesome if we had a short track like that close by. Nearest one to me is an NHRA sanctioned strip and gets so busy on Fridays, that you're lucky if you can get 2 runs in from what I've heard. I'd really like to take my challenger SRT8 there to tune it, but can't do a whole lot with two runs and really sucks. Got a new tire & wheel setup for it last weak, and am just waiting for FedEx to show up with her frontrunners this afternoon and can't wait to get them on it. Went with 17" mickey T 305s for the back, and should be able to hook better now. Very nice dart and have thought about stuffing a big qube motor in one of those sweet little lightweight cuties, and love it. Almost bought a 71 last year with 413 wedge, and was a very fast car. Unfortunately, the deal fell through and wasn't able to get get it. Only A body I've ever had, was a 70 duster and have been mostly b-body cars

Great fast pass!! Solid motor mounts really help with the wheels up launches, also try flashing the convertor for a few runs and see if it improves the launches, mine did. Launched at 2k and then stood on it as the last amber came on. You might have red lighted as the car reaction is getting better as it loosens up. All the best

@@SimpsonsSpeedShop I accidentally discovered a really good engine mounting setup. So my Duster has the original /6 K frame. I bought conversion mounts from Schumacher to mount my 440 into it. When I placed the order, the salesman pitched Schumacher's engine hold down rod to go with the poly lock mounts they were selling me. I declined because my plan was to put a chain hold down on the drivers side to limit unwanted engine movement. When I received the conversion mounts from Schumacher, they included their hold down strut kit for free! I don't know if it was a mistake or if they were just being generous but I was happy to get it. So the strut has a spherical rod end that goes to one of the engine mount lugs on the block and the end that attaches to the K frame has a threaded rod that goes through poly bushings like what you would see on the old sway bar links. It works great and technically my engine is not solid mounted because of the poly bushings. Send me a friend request on fb if you want to so we can share photos and info. My fb name is Andy O'Dustneill.

Another great day at the track for the Dart! Thanks again for sharing. Too bad you can't bring it here to Phoenix, we are just now starting our fall race season. October 23rd is the next Friday Night drags at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park. Incidentally, just wanted to ask about the kickdown lever in your Torqueflite. Is it a 5.0 or a 4.2? Take Care and have a good off-season.

@elm7666
@elm7666 4 жыл бұрын
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop Hi Joe, Thanks for the reply. The front servo on a torqueflite pushes down on a lever that clamps the front (kickdown) band holding the front drum from spinning until the 2-3 shift, then releases. If you ever hold the car in first gear manually that same front drum spins at tremendous speed but has to come to a complete stop when the front servo applies pressure to the kickdown lever for second gear. Each torqueflite came with a different ratio lever (depending on application) and the hemi and 440 six pack cars came with a 5.0:1 ratio lever, which has the most clamping force on the front drum assembly. As a result, the front servo has to travel further down to apply the higher ratio lever. Some people prefer the 4.2 with a small block or even the 3.8 but like the 5.0 in big block or 904 equipped cars. This is also why a lot of old school racers replaced the large heavy five clutch front drums with the lighter 4 clutch drum on their hemi torqueflites back in the day. Now, they sell light billet drums that you can use. The band is only accessible from a small pipe plug behind the converter on the bottom of the case. Then, you can use a small screw to insert into the lever shaft and slide it out changing the lever. If you change the fluid and adjust the kickdown band you can see a number on the side of the lever with the ratio. Didn't mean to ramble. This place has some great parts and talks about this further if you are interested. smrtrans.tripod.com/smrtransmissionsintro/index.html.

I feel ripped off with such a short track. At least you have lights and timers the local road course here in Nebraska runs some Friday night grudge races on 530ft straight part of the track and gives you about 400ft to shut down. Again no lights or timers and same entry fee.

Simpsons Speed Shop You really need to take it to a real 1/8 or 1/4 mile to find out what your car really runs. You will find out your 384 feet times are not real 1/4 mile times. my car quickest 1/8 time is this so far. I have a 70 Cougar 359 Cleveland, c4 trans with an incorrect 3000 stall and 4.11 gears. I have a 5000 stall my friend built - just no time to put it in yet. 60' 1.65 330 - 4.69 1/8 - 7.24 mph- 95.66 so if you take my 1/8 et that comes out to a 11.31 . Your car is a brick and aerodynamics start to play a factor the faster you go. Your car is real nice but sorry to bust your bubble but your car is not a 11.18 until you can prove it. Not sure where you live but get video of at least a a true 1/8 time. Also, not sure who's ET conversion your using but the one on PROSYSTEMS CARBURETORS is about as accurate as I have seen. Looking forward to your 1/8 mile video.

Simpsons Speed Shop By the way, my engine dyno numbers are 520hp@6300 450tq@5600. now you see why I need my 5000 stall. Engine really not happy with the 3000. I shift at 6600 my 7.24 run vs a 7.0 Vette with a 400 in it. see he got me out the hole but I tightened that gap real quick kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJzEq4SdlrCNgbc Texas Motorplex 1/4 mile. 7.3 run. 100 degrees that day. (60') 1.68 (330) -4.77 (1/8) 7.37 (1/8 mph) 94.10 (1/4) 11.56 (1/4 mph) 117.40 kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWbXeGOAlMqnhM0

I only put up a converted time to give people an idea of how the car is performing. I agree that I need to put it on a real 1/4 mile but I don’t have acces to one till next year. I do believe at its current state tho it would be damm close to 11.18 and by the time I get to a 1/4 mile the car will be improved again so just have to wait to see I guess.

@@SimpsonsSpeedShop cool man. Don't take me wrong, I'm not dogging you or your car. Your car is real nice and definitionally quick. I understand you have to work with what you have. Hell that 1/8 track in the video I sent of me racing that black Corvette just closed at beginning of this year. Makes me very unhappy because that was only 20 mins from me. Now I have to drive 1 hour 2o mins to go to that 1/4 mile in the other video I sent you or an hour and half to the next 1/8 mile. I tell you what though, the shut down at the end of your track would scare me. My car is still manual brakes and drums all around.

I'm not surprised that it went quicker by shifting at a lower rpm. Peak torque or about 100 rpm below it is exactly where you want to pull the engine down to at a shift. In addition to that good high stall converters work best under a high load so shifting earlier does just that, it puts it under a higher load so it increases the converters torque multiplication. Great video, I'm looking forward to more!
