Bass Player actually did a feature story on Alderete, and he was on their cover. It was their March 2005 issue, and I own a copy. I agree, though. Alderete is really underrated.

THATS what I love, Technical Bass Playing without having to rely on Slap Bass or Two-Hand Tapping.

I'd definitely put John up there with other legendary bassists like Ian Hill, Steve Harris, Cliff Burton, Geddy Lee etc.

Well, have you actually listened to any of their bass lines, like Harris' intro to Wrathchild, or Hill's intro to The Rage?

Chops wise? Are you kidding me? If you're talking just in terms of the lines they write, than yeah, Geddy's lines are timeless. But Alderete plays circles around Geddy.

I can't consider Ian Hill as a legendary bassist, although he sounds pretty fine on "Sad Wings of Destiny". Still, that really doesn't make him legendary, and he plays with pick.

Yeah dude So-and-so is so much better than What's-his-name blah blah blah. Its music people, not sports.

As a fellow Bassist there are only so many Bass Solos I like, but I always respect Solos like this that don't rely on Billy Sheehan style tapping or Ott Slap Bass.
