I've been using Akrapovič exhaust systems on my bikes for more than 15 years and have always loved the quality of them as well as the sound. Currently, all of my bikes are equipped with Akrapovic exhaust systems including Basil bike, Rex bike, my 2-stroke enduro bike and many of my older bikes, even back to my 2003 KTM 950 Adventure. In all the years I've been using them I've never had a single exhaust component fail under normal operating conditions and I have a few bikes with over 160,000km on them now. The only time I have ever had to replace them is due to damage, normally from crashing :-) So, with all this in mind, after recently riding around the world for 5 years, racing in 9 International Cross Country events along the way, I wanted to know exactly what makes them so good. I arranged a visit to the factory in Slovenia in June 2019 on my way back through Europe to see a little bit of the magic that goes into making these mater-pieces. I was able to negotiate the sharing of my video with the public showing rare unseen footage and manufacturing details from inside the factory, I hope you enjoy it.

Welcome to my country! This bald guy used to service my ex Husqvarna many years ago, he had his private serviceshop for huskys, I see he is employee of Akrapovic now. Great guy! So are you Lyndon, keep up posting interesting video material.

Great video, Lyndon! Watched yesterday and shared it and thought about it since. It's great to see a company that's led by someone with passion and vision. The insistence on actually doing something, owning the design and the process, is refreshing. Too many "leaders" in business want to buy crap from China, slap a label on it, and rely on "marketing", aka lies, to simulate value. The recycling of titanium into investment castings is the sort of thinking that makes companies great, but gets dismissed by financial-only thinkers who fail to see value in a things that carry risk and can't be leveraged by Sales into luring buyers into paying a higher price.

Astonishing that someone from Slovenia can enter the car market in 2009 where super rich Austrian and German companies have been dominating since the begging of time and yet make a better product.

Very interesting, I had no idea that this level of manufacturing went into commercially available exhausts. I would be interested to see how this compares to other brands in the same price range like Austin Racing... I have a feeling the economy of scale allows Akra to make a much better product.

I've had a very bad experience with them on the KTM 690 SMC-R with two slip-ons broken in less than 20,000km.. First the rivets start to come loose, the $100 carbon cap flies off and finally the whole end comes out and can throw the whole thing in the bin.

Probably a Chinese copy, my LC4 bike has over 200,000km with Akrapovic and never had an issue.

@@lyndonposkitt That was my thought but confirmed authentic by one KTM garage and another exhaust dealer (both slip-ons). It might be the heat here in Thailand combined possibly with a too lean tune on the bike.

Not to split hairs here but Honda won the Dakar on an NXR V twin and so did Cagiva with their Elefants before KTM...now you could say that the Cagiva was an 'L' twin but its still a V...and the 650 Africa Twin was a V...52 degree V twin I seem to recall. It was for sure a V configuration...I owned both 650 and 750 versions...also owned a 750 Elefant,a 900 elefant and the Lucky Strike injected 900. One thing is for sure is that Honda and Cagiva won Dakar races befoer any V Twin of KTM...they did not have a V twin engine in the Dakar for maybe ten years or so after Honda...unless someone can correct me here of course....BMW and Yamaha were also winning on twin (not V) engines before KTM.

@@lyndonposkitt I wish Akra all the best, but expensive premium aftermarket options tend to be fitted to new vehicles. Current EV trend is really picking up. Governments are actively funding change. Akra needs to change to survive, (as well as the whole automotive industry) but it's hard to think of a suited new product line. Maybe fake Tesla exhaust with boom boxes?

Not gonna happen fast. I imagine Mr Akropovic already sleeps in a very comfortable bed and isn't sweating it too much. I just bought a gas powered new car. I really wanted to buy an EV but the math doesn't stack up yet. Also range anxiety was an issue for me.

He's rich beyond belief now. But if they are still one of only two or three places in the whole world with a Titanium foundry they can easily pivot to making other Titanium parts, that is always in demand for luxury level cars to reduce weight.
