Bunions are definitely genetic. I work for a hospital and we do a lot of outpatient bunion surgeries. Glad you are getting yours fixed! Prayers for an easy recovery.

At age of 63 on my right foot in Jan 2023 I had bunion correction surgery & also 2 hammertoes fixed & a torn tendon on outside of foot. 6 months later I had left foot surgery for bunion correction, 2 hammertoes fixed & my 2nd toe shortend & fused. Follow docs directions & you should be fine! If you have to be non weight bearing (I struggle with crutches) GETTING A KNEE SCOOTER WILL BE A LIFE SAVER. Good luck!

Good luck with your surgery Rach. I am 75 and like your sister, my big toe goes right over the second toe but i don't have pain most time. I did about three times in my life when I felt the bone really moving and then it hurt for about 3 months and then stopped. I figure that at this age, I need more to worry about a hip replacement in the future but glad you are getting yours done for all that pain. All the best.

You may have sensitivity if you bump the top of your foot where the pin is inserted. It won't happen often, but when it does you get a little zing. One of the easiest surgeries to heal from.

I had my bunion opp 7yrs ago .also a hammer toe fused at same time .Best dission I ever made Pain free still. Only left foot like affected. Enjoy the birthday celebrations first 🎉❤
