I certainly don't hate Matt but I am very disappointed in his selfish attitude in not giving Michelle the "2 minute" conversation she asked for after he ended things with her. To say "if I had know how you felt I would have given you that conversation." How did he think she felt after being dumped?? That was such a cop out from someone who was only thinking of himself at that point.

The only thing I’m mad at Matt for is not giving Michelle the two minutes. But at the end of the day, it’s not for any of us to be mad at him or Rachael. It’s not our lives. She made mistakes. She’s ignorant. But the way she has conducted herself and the respect she has shown Matt since this all happened suggests to me that she has a good heart but she’s lived a sheltered and probably clueless life. My take on the whole “if Matt really loved her, he would’ve stayed and helped...” idea... in order to love someone, you have to love yourself. Matt seems to just be struggling with his own emotions as well. As he said, he doesn’t want to be emotionally responsible for Rachael. His mental and emotional health matters, too. He’s putting himself first. If he can’t put himself first to realign and figure things out, then he’ll never find that self love and self respect. So he’ll never be able to fully love someone else. He shouldn’t have to take on another load of pressure on top of being the first black bachelor in the climate we’re in. He said he didn’t sign up for this. How was he supposed to know that one of his contestants, the one he ended up choosing at the end, would have so much controversy surrounding racism? Everyone just needs to work on themselves in this case. Then maybe they can work together, should they choose to. Apologies if I worded anything weirdly. I’m not the best at wording some things.

Directing hate towards either Matt or Rachael or their family is effectively hurting the both of them if it hasn't become obvious by now. Preaching about forgiveness starts with our forgiveness of others and we can start by giving Rachael and Matt the benefit of the doubt as we don't know the complete story. In some way, I suspect that the backlash against Rachael would have reached a boiling point had Matt stayed with her, and the break up has given her a chance to do her work as he put it and her getting the full credit. Trying to be objective about this, Matt deserves to be understood, and Rachael deserves a chance to be heard and be a change agent.

the whole getting mad at someone for leaving you on "read" is so assumptive and ridiculous-- a couple weeks back I had some guy slide into my DMs in IG... and his first message happens to be a voice message, which I found a little strange in itself. Within 8 hours he sends message #2, saying something along the lines of "clearly you're not interested so I'll refrain from bugging you" and I thought I would (politely) give him the courtesy of letting him know the absolute truth: that I hadn't even seen either of his messages yet, and that I don't like voice messages and will most likely ignore them, especially when they come from a stranger. He then accuses me of lying because he has "read" receipts and then continues by trying to guilt-trip me by revealing that the voice message was just to say how much he admired me. I responded with something like "wow we would clearly never work out anyways" and he said "how so? Can we just start over?" and I said: "No. Not only are you *already* way too needy and clearly wouldn't mesh well with my usually-procrastinated responses, but you make assumptions and judgments that literally make my skin crawl. Just because your phone says I "read" your message doesn't mean I digested the content-- there are 1,000 scenarios that could've played out where I accidentally clicked on the DM, none of which would involve me intentionally leaving you on read or lying to you. Not to mention, ya know, the bulk of your messages couldn't have even been read because they were in AUDIO FORM, YOU BUFFOON! I find nothing about those things attractive or even slightly tolerable, please fuck off kindly." Sorry /rantover I just had to go off about people making assumptions about read receipts. Has anyone posed this question. Bachelor and Bachelorette are always boasting that this is the most dramatic season ever. Due diligence would dictate that producers would do some deep dive research on a contestant before they are accepted. So if that picture was easy to find, do you think it’s possible that Rachael’s picture was leaked by producers when it was clear she was a front runner? Certainly ticked the dramatic box!

I also believe he needs to figure out what he wants and learn to trust as it’s obvious he’s got major commitment issues. Maybe the MOST interesting part of all of this is that Matt is having to reckon with this stuff at the same time as Raechel; and it seems like he never has before. It seems he's dealing with issues he's purposefully avoided, and it is VERY sad to watch him go through this. But this is the BIGGEST reason why you need more people of color behind the scenes of this show (or at least people who are versed on these issues), because they would've been able to SPOT that: Not only is this man not ready for marriage, but this could potentially be extremely harmful to him; a man who's NEVER had these conversations before about race. It reminds me of Tayshia versus Ivan. They continually keep putting these leads of color on-screen who've been surrounded by white people their entire lives, because the Bachelor believes that person will be more "palatable" to the white audience. It's putting those leads in a TERRIBLE position, because they are supposed to be representing something which they ARE ("a black person") but both Matt and Tayshia definitely are more resistant to conversations like these, than people like Nick Viall or Becca Kufrin. They are more "white-washed", per say, than the white leads. That's why they were chosen! They were chosen FOR that reason! But it's a very multi-faceted issue and I feel like I could go on for a while.

@Keisha Puryear I think biracial is fine, as long as they are WILLING to talk about race and aren't more uncomfortable with it than the white leads. That's a very low bar, in my opinion. But yeah, I feel like someone like Serena P. would be much more comfortable talking about race than Matt, and SHE'S biracial. They've just been choosing black leads (other than Rachel) who do their best to not even associate with being black.

Wish them both the best .... only time will tell. They seemed to be so good together. If they can get through this they will make it through anything else in life. They may find their way back to each other. Being black is something we have to carry where ever we go and it gets exhausting trying to demonstrate that we can fit in the so called white world. It has to be hard for Matt to feel free to be himself in an unknown situation. It was easy to let his guard down in a safe space but then they had to go back to the real world. He was hit with something he didn’t expect to have to deal with. I hope they make it in the long run.

Ashley Salomon Matt James is a liar. He broke up with Rachael Kirkconell not because of social pressure, but because of his repressed homosexuality. He spends his quarantine with Tyler, takes suggestive photos with him, which are those of two gay. Nothing wrong with his sexual orientation, but that he stops lying to himself and to the world. Last I heard, they moved in together in an apartment in New York. Even though he was heterosexual, breaking up with a woman he said he loved shows a blatant lack of intellectual virility. In this case, he would have done better to refuse the offer made to him to be the first Black Bachelor. It is true that the attraction of celebrity has been stronger. He will go down in history, not as the first Black Bachelor, but as a ballless weakling, unable to grow with and protect the woman he pretends to loves from social pressures.

I whole heartedly disagree with what you’re saying. Matt said himself on AFTR that he had to explain to Rachel why what she did was problematic. He also said that he does not want to be emotionally responsible for her and the backlash she’s getting. There’s no denying that him picking her was likely largely based on physical attraction alone, but for her to be the final pick he had to have thought there was some mutual alignment on important issues. After escaping the bubble of the show he found out that there was a huge disconnect in that regard, not even saying that Rachel is a racist but that she is ignorant to issues that Matt as a biracial man considers to be deal breakers. He signed up for the show to find a wife and be a husband, not to be someone’s social issues mentor. He shouldn’t have to justify his personhood to anyone and especially “his person.” Pretty much every adult on this planet has dated someone they thought was incredible and then changed their perspective after learning more about them, ESPECIALLY within the first few months of dating. This is not a new or foreign concept. She was his final pick on the Bachelor which actually means pretty much nothing when you consider the success rate of the franchise in general, so why is Matt suddenly the villain when his relationship doesn’t work out like virtually everyone before him?
@ngutumpuennutu28363 жыл бұрын
@@msc4190 You are the type of people Matt James blames for his breakup with Rachael Kirkconell. Which is in my eyes only a convenient pretext to explain his lack of personality or his lack of attraction for women. When Matt James talks about the social pressure behind his breakup, what is he talking about? The few black women who have expressed in social networks their anger, understandable in this climate of sexual competition, that he chose Rachael Kirkconell instead of Michele Young are not a group influential enough to achieve this breakup. This breakup is paradoxically a strategic victory for racism. This strategic aspect is invisible to the fools who wanted this breakup and to Matt James himself. A chinese strategist said that the best victory is that which turns an enemy into a friend. With her racist past, Rachael Kirkconell was objectively an enemy of black people. With her evolution into a militant anti-racist, an evolution whose attraction for Matt James is not foreign, she becomes a friend of the black people. But it is when she was ready to progress in this anti-racist journey that some send her racist past in the face. This intransigent attitude is rather a defeat in the face of racism. Because it enshrines racial, emotional, sexual, matrimonial and reproductive segregation between Blacks and Whites ... in the name of anti-racism.

@@ngutumpuennutu2836 you’re kind of over complicating things. I don’t care if Rachel and Matt are together or not, all I’m saying is that Matt is justified in not wanting to be with Rachel just like he’s justified in not wanting to be with anyone really. Him picking Rachel at the end does not mean he is required to be with her forever. It’s also not Matt’s responsibility to try and mend the relationship in order to end racism. I don’t think you actually read my response and if you did, your comprehension needs a little work. Otherwise you would’ve understood that the only thing I did was advocate for Matt to have free agency over his own love life, to defend HIS OWN WORDS, and his right to date who he pleases. The reality is that people fall in and out of love all the time and Matt’s own mother has told him that love is not the end all be all, so it’s really not surprising that everything that happened put too much pressure on their very new relationship.

And then once you start.....well you know the rest. Here are my thoughts. 1) Rachael grew up in the South and was ignorant to what an antebellum party represented. Southern tradition is normalized in the South. And she is young. She recognizes the problem now, has apologized profusely and is working on herself with regard to racism. 2) Matt had a right to feel hurt and betrayed. He has the right to make personal decisions about his relationships. If it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. 3) Matt isn’t and wasn’t ready for long term commitment. He was clearly upset when Serena P left. After that he had the difficult decision of picking the next best thing. 4) someone with Matt’s good looks and his age shouldn’t have to go on a reality show to find a wife. He’s either a committmentphobe or is too picky. 5) Matt may be feeling torn by wanting to forgive Rachael but not wanting to upset the black community by saying the door is still open. 6) This was an awful time to have to navigate such a sensitive situation. The political climate is too polarized. 7) They need to disappear and stop talking, stop giving interviews etc. It’s just making the whole situation worse.

And then cut when the going got tough. That is what happens when things are done not for the right reasons. A person ready for a relationship would not cut and run at the first sight of trouble.

@@newaulk i can't say i disagree with that.😅 But with that said, where does the responsibility lie? I think some of it is on Matt (we're all adults here and we all make our own decisions that we have to ultimately own up to sooner or later), but i think there is a lot of responsibility on the franchise as well. I've been watching them for almost 5 years. Even with my "newbie" self, i feel like i keep waiting for them to catch up and make respectful decisions and changes. I feel like they just keep capitalizing off of people, and it shows in ugly UGLY ways. The only people that lose are the contestants or the main characters they don't into the spotlight. Iknow that's how "the business" works but to me, it's just not right. P.S. LOL🤣 I was about to ask you about Colton until i remembered what he was like on paradise right before his season. You right 😂👍🏾

@@DrLee-gq9wd I agree with you 100 %. The show has shown poor judgement all around. Emmanuel Acho just showed how low their quality is. And get this, Emmanuel Acho is on the record, admitting that he has turned down the chance to appear on the Bachelorette 3 times. Now you know which end of the pool the show is fishing.

@@DrLee-gq9wd Plus add to that, the fact that the producers and editors deemed the sit-down between Rachel and Michelle not final cut worthy but to Emmanuel Acho it was the best part of the ATFR and that he had called an 'audible' to make it happen in the first place, either cancel the show or fire everyone involved with the show.

Both sides should try to understand each other. Just because Rachel didn't grow up in an environment where she had great awareness of the black plight doesn't make her deserve the blame of everything ever done to blacks. What matters is if she cares to understand and learn how Matt feels. And, he should do the same for her. The old south affair she attended as a teen was about a girl getting to play dress up at a time in history that was very girlie. She wasn't thinking about the black perspective, but that doesn't make her bad. She just had blinders because she didn't grow up in that environment. Don't attach hate to her. Each person should try to understand how the other gained perspective of life, have a discussion and see if you have empathy and connection to each other's viewpoint. Then move forward. I wish everyone would stop hating and being angry!

I don’t understand why Rachel is being called a racist when she went on The Bachelor fully aware that he was black or half black and is in love with him. Would a racist do that?

Matt doesn’t deserve a woman like Rachel

I look at this way the past is the past. If Matt fell in love with Rachel. So he should not worry about what people say .so love means more to you then you should be with Rachel just take it one day at a time .you should not break up with each other .Matt if I feel in love with someone with the past it don't mean nothing to me love means move then anything to me.

I just think Matt could have broken up with her but been a bit more gracious and compassionate. He came across cold and callous. Thus the backlash. He like froze. It wasnt good look for him. He is not a great communicator. Not his strength. Hurt his perception.

You can’t win or respond to everything in social media. Someone should advise her.

I don't think Matt took going on the show to find a wife at all. He has mama issues and and badly needs therapy before he even thinks about getting into a relationship. period

No one would be talking about it if the social media stopped posting vids, tweets, articles, etc... but of course all the controversy is a money maker whether positive or negative ....
